1. Week-end Bump to include Amp Trade details.
 2.
I'm thinking about putting a Jazz style bass together from parts and was wondering whether anyone has any experiences or recommendations on the kits available from Brandoni or elsewhere? I'd be on a fairly tight budget but don't want something that's going to be sh*t.
Another alternative is to get one of the "No Name" Jazz Basses from Curly's Music in Liverpool or from e-Bay. They are excellent and he will do them for £115, which is way cheaper than a WD body/neck. I did a P-Bass, which is now For Sale, but the details are here and give you an idea of what you can achieve. Mine came out amazingly well. 3.
It's a CMD151P, you can tell with the carry handle on the top, and RRP is £1K+. I'm still not sure this "ebay links" forum is a good idea. I quite fancied bidding for this if it stayed on the cheap side but now I have to bid against you guys too. Anybody else feel this way.
Certainly Do. I have lost interest in a number of items that were in the wrong catagories, and thus no bidding. As soon as the "heads up" appeared here, bidding starts in earnest. I thought we were only putting BIN links on this part of the forum?
 4. Best bit of advice I was given was to learn each part seperately. Learn the Bass Line so you can play it in your sleep and learn the vocals without playing the Bass. Then do both. Works for me but I still have a voice like a Frog with a bad cold, (hence the avatar).
 5. +1 For The Wizard Thumper. Fantastic pick-up.
 6. +3 For Interparcel. The first consignment I arranged pick-up of a mixer from London as the seller wanted £20 for delivery. Interparcel charged me £12.50 and included £100 insurance. The mixer was really badly packed but got to me in one piece. Consignment 2 was a Bass and Case I sent to a fellow BassChatter in Scotland. No problems and £23.50 including £500 insurance. The final delivery really tested Interparcel's Customer Service. I booked through the web and chose a DHL service. Everything went through fine until on the day of collection DHL phoned to tell me the pick-up time I selected was after their pick-up time for the area. I tried to explain that the time I "selected" was the only one available. They agreed to collect the next day, which didn't really bother me, but decided to let Interparcel know that there was a problem with their booking system as it only offered me a 2:30 - 4:30 pick-up slot and DHL's cutt-off for my area was 10:00AM, A polite, "could you hang on a moment" resulted in them offering to change the order to TNT and it would be picked up later in the afternoon, which it was. The package was delivered at 8:06 the following morning. Cannot fault them. Great web-site and really good Customer Service.
 7.
well its enough to make me think about switching to Virgin. Although they've done a good job of layering their fees as well. What are the alternatives to BT phone lines?
Now for someone who worked for BT for over 40 years, I find it really strange to be recommending anyone else, but heyho, i'm retired now so what the hell they are a joke. The unfortunate thing with Telecomms Companies is that their Customer Service is all as bad as each other but for Value, Talk Talk or Sky take some beating, particularly as yo get free Broadband with both. Check the Phone section here http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/ All the latest deals will be explained.
 8.
would take this in a second if it was lefty- probably a good thing for my bank account
Turn it upside down and do a "Hendrix"
 9.
I know you don't do 4s particularly BB, but how about a swap for an electro-acoustic Washburn AB10, or a swap for my Six-string XB-600? I'm even in Swinton this Sunday!
Unfortunately I don't really want anymore "incomings". I am prunning both the bass and Guitar collection but thanks for the offer.
 10. Have had a number of enquiries from BCer's about splitting the Bass and selling the various parts. Althoiugh I would get what I wanted in terms of overall cash for the bass, I really don't want to do it at this stage. It was a project I wanted to do and the results have far surpassed my expectations, so rather than break it up, I will keep it until the market improves. It sounds awesome and definately punches way above its weight.
 11.
Think Tribute production now is in Indonesia and they are going up in price.....
Correct. They moved production late last year from the Cort factory in Korea, (who also make Lakland, Ibanez and some Fender models), to Indonesia. Unbelievable value for money and probably one of the most versatile Basses around. Check the sound files on the G&L site, they can do everything form a Stingray on Acid to Jazz and P Bass. A certain BassChatter known to Y5S and mysely used to use a Marcus Miller and a Lakland DJ5, (or is it a JO5), and now uses an L2500 Skyline instead of the 2.......
 12. Stop worrying and just get out there and enjoy it. Good Luck and make sure you let us know how it went.
 13. Try a Wizard Thumper. Awesome pick-up. Loads of output and plenty of "thump"
 14.
Nice job mate. Another tempter.
Cheers ND, It has come out much much better than I originally thought. I just don't play 4 strings these days and have bought another 2 fives since this project.
 15.
What was the original brand of the bass? Just like to keep my eye out for them in the future, it's hard to find good quality copies like the SXs!
Haven't a clue I'm afraid. They are marketed as "No Name" guitars as there is no decal etc on the headstock at all. The shop I got it from orders direct from the factory and thus knows what else they make.
 16.
A £10 aluminium case from B&Q - perfect fit and room for a cab lead.
+1 for the B&Q solution
 17.
looks nice, and a barg at £185. If only it were of a J orientation...
Ah I'll have a "P" please Bob......
 18. All PM's replied to. Just to confirm, the Bass is brand spanking new. Any blemishes on the pics are reflections as the body has been polished up with Grover Grime Guard and you can see your face in it. Pics were taken outside on a rare sunny day...... Did think of "ageing" it, but decided against it.
 19. Now that should be some Bass, Son........ Using ACG pre-amp as well?
 20.
Has this not gone? Surprised. For anyone lusting over a SR5, this is a similar sound for half the price!
Couldn't agree more. Must be the best value Bass on the market, (except the Spector Euro 5 I got brand new for £499). It'll do Stingray, Jazz and P-Bass. No need to carry different basses around.
 21.
We are a classic rock covers band based in and around Bury lancs. We do the odd one or two gigs a month and money isn't the prime motivation. We all play in other bands (function bands etc) so we don't want to work loads. We have our own rehearsal room in bury Lancs and rehearse one night a week, The set up is twin lead guitars, Vocals, Drums and hopefully a new bass player. If you fancy having a laugh and playing a few tunes and having a few beers then get in touch.
So you playing guitar then Ian? I have just quit a 2 guitar Pub Rock Band as it wasn't really doing it for me. Am happy to come and rehearse with you though until you find someone. Need to pay you back somehow for the "heads up" on the G&L
 22. Hi ND, If you can't get through to Mike, PM me. I should be able to help. The second cab will make a difference. I use 2 of the "non-neo" ones and really like them. I forgot to connect the second one up one night, (the non-tweeter one), and couldn't understand why i wasn't getting the sound i was used to. Spotted the problem between sets and second set managed to drown the guitarists out as per normal. Notice you have a G&L L2500 as do I . Sounds awesome through 2 Zoots.
 23. Whilst browsing in a Music Shop recently I spotted some "No Name" Fender copies and a 62P caught my eye. It looked really well put together and chatting with the owner it appears to have been made in the same factory that makes Tokai and SX. I have managed to compare the original hardware from it with an SX and it does seem to be the same. It has an amazing neck that is a simlar profile to a Jazz and has a lovely tinted laquer giving a nice aged look. So I bought it and threw all the hardware and electronics away, with the exception of the tuners and started a build. The cavity has been lined with Copper. The scratchplate has been foil backed. A Wizard Thumper has been installed along with CTS Pots, Switchcraft Jack and Sprague capacitor. All wiring is in Vintage cloth covered wire and the pot/capacitor values were decided upon after a chat with Andy at Wizard pickups. The bridge has been replaced with a Wilkinson Vintage bridge with Brass Saddles. New string tree and Fecker transfer, (laquered over), complete the picture. I was going to put a set of Fender tuners on, but the original ones were better. It sounds absolutely awesome. I cannot believe a bass that cost so little sounds so good. The neck is really nice to play and is dead straight. I wound my MarkBass up to max and plugged in and it is absolutely silent. Not a trace of earth hum. I built this as an experiment and as I don't play 4 strings these days, have decided to sell it. It would make a perfect Bass for those "iffy" venues where you don't really want to take your Pride & Joy or a cheap back-up. It looks the part and sounds even better. It cost around £250 in parts to build. Is absolutely brand spanking new and only completed a couple of weeks ago. Looking for £185 for a P-Bass that will stack up against any most of the Fender P-Bass's I have played. Would also be interested in a deal involving an Amp Head. Need a back-up and particularly a 2U rack-mountable one
 24.
Sold!
Thank God for that. Saved me buying yet another Bass......
