It certainly won't do any harm. It looks like whatever the issue was, you've cured it by poking around.

The specs on the 2 are very similar. The 121H has slightly more top end, probably due to the better tweeter . Apart from that there appears very little to choose. I loved my 121P, after disconnecting the tweeter, and combined with an NY121 it was pretty much unbeatable, in my opinion. The 121p "mod" only costs about £10, if you felt so inclined.

Have used TNT a couple of times and never had a problem.

Markbass head - loss of volume on start up
BassBunny replied to muso's topic in Repairs and Technical
To be fair, mine had given me 12 years faultless service before it started causing issues. The problem is if you take it to anyone other than Real Electronics, they won't be able to do anything with it as MarkBass won't release the circuit diagrams. Also the later ones are Class D power sections and pretty much irreparable. It's a board swap at around £200. Someone on here did get one sorted, a Class A/B one and I think I have the repair guy details. I'll try and dig them out. Drop @johnny2shoes a message. Someone in Bolton sorted his but I believe it was terminal and not a volume drop. -
Anyone here near you? https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/198-recommended-amp-techs/

If you really can't do without a tweeter and it's a deal breaker, you might want to look at the MarkBass CMD121H instead. The tweeter in the 121p can be really brittle and hissy sounding. I disconnected mine. There is a simple mod to change to a better tweeter, (documented here somewhere), and that transforms the 121p. If you were looking at a 2nd hand one, it would be worth going that route. If a new one, you've immediately invalidated the warranty. There are a couple of similar postings to this further down that would be worth a look.

Tone pot gone awol or something else ?
BassBunny replied to fleabag's topic in Repairs and Technical
Unless it's an ACG or WAL that are filter pre-amps with a stack per pickup. Bass and treble makes much more sense. -

What bass/electronics are we talking about here? Pics if the control cavity would help as I'm struggling to come up with a pre-amp with that configuration. -
Now that would be something.

I've gone through a few of your lessons Greg and find them great. If you are planning on posting regular hints and tips maybe moving this to the Performance Section, Theory & Technique and have your own "channel". This is where I look if I need any playing tips and you may be missing an audience.

Glad I could help. Hopefully it will work, can't see why not if John East does it this way, but if not it hasn't messed up the existing wiring.
-
Right here we go and hope this makes sense. This is the way John East adds the passive control to his range of pre-amps as far as i can tell. I've shown as 2 individual pots as I already had a diagram I could crop but these really represent a Dual Pot. You can use a dual gang, if you want the same amount of treble bleed on each pickup or a dual concentric if you want to be able to vary the effect separately on each pickup, (that could be pretty cool actually). Also if you want a greater effect, change the 0.047µF capacitor for a 0.1µF.
-
Not a problem. Should be able to sort it out tomorrow.
-
I'll see if I can update the diagram tomorrow. The passive element isn't wired between any part of the existing pre-amp. It's an additional control.
-
That would work if you know the values of the bass/treble pots. Regarding the passive part, the circuit is the same as a jazz/ p bass. The way John East does it is with a single spindle, dual pot so effectively a passive circuit for each pickup. Then simply wired into the inputs of the pre-amp. Or what would be even cooler is a standard 250k dual pot and you could have different passive effect on each pickup.

Getting a bass refinished in print

Those were customer requests. He can do anything. He did a stunning job for my son based on his band logo. -

Here's a couple of wraps he has done -
Personally I'm a big fan of Glockenklang pre-amps. I've got 3 of them installed in various bases. You can get 2 or 3 band in 4 control format. Set flat there is no difference between active and passive.

A pal of mine could print a vinyl wrap for you to cover the body or he would do it It's what he does for a living producing vinyls for supermarkets but also does bass drum prints, ( he's a drummer as well ). -
