too clean for your taste? and what the heck is the other piece you AB'd with...?
Hi Andy No ,Not so much "too clean" just that i'm fortunate enough to have a version of one of these ,in a huge pedal with a tone control and compression defeat so i can use that as a lovely valve d.i. and it sits in a mix lovely. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...s%3DI%26otn%3D2 I'm still not sure whether to keep the Aguilar, cos it's so bloody useful!! Just a bit of a luxury though to not use fully. -

Only bought this at the beginning of the week from Doctorbass here- http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...&hl=aguilar i was looking to use it for recording only but it's more of a gigging pre-amp imho...It is brilliant though and all the functions are very useable. The treble control sounds like it maybe needs a clean otherwise totally as described in Doctor B's thread. If i was gigging i'd definitely be using one of these! i've had good fun trying it and a/b ing it with another piece i have so i'll cut my losses on the fuel i used goin to pick it up so same price £600 or £620 with the rack case.no offers ,is a BARGAIN!!! Not really looking for trades.Wouldn't really want to ship it.I'm in the n.west uk/n.e. wales area Pete
On the topic of musicians in church worship teams being quite adept at being in a band situation, there is a key difference between the average band and the average worship team that contributes towards this.
What does that mean? What's a worship team?
Can anyone suggest some more contemporary, non-gospel religious music to check out? It'll have to be on youtube - no way am I buying this stuff! Its a short step from there to buying a ranch in Waco.

It strikes me that both secular (especially political) and religious songs fall into two camps. There are those that are very up front with their message, right from the first line it's "BLAM this is what I've got to say and you're going to feckin well know it", a lyrical message you couldn't miss if you tried. And then there are . The sort of song where you don't even know you're listening to a political or religious message until you think about it afterwards.
Don't forget to include the alleged "backwards messages in songs " type too!!!Remember those?!Judas Priest,Rush etc. I suppose it's down to interpretation unless the writer of the song confirms it though......Like i thought the posts by the author of this topic, especially the second one about teenagers being safer at christian rock gigs could be seen as a subtle way of "spreading the word"/recruiting ,but he's confirmed it wasn't.... Johngh has the right approach about it imo. No need to stuff it down ppl's throats.........(no sexual pun responses plz! )

No you don't need to apologise,i'm just a bit confused by your post. It's great that you've found something obviously special to you,why not start a christian bassists sub forum thing going on here? I edited this post incase it seemed patronising or inflammatory which is not my intent.(and just in case the baby jesus reading it of course! ) Good luck with it
No, not at all and apologies if it sounds that way. I just went along, enjoyed it and wondered if any other bass players either attended or were involved in similar events around the country.

A majority of Christian Rock music is dull and predictable, it just serves as a basis to preach in a more accessible form to younger people. It's sugar coated chorus friendly to bring the masses in.
I wasn't trying to define the style of music ,or what is/isn't good music ,my point was that if it didn't have the religious associations, they wouldn't be reacting to it in that way. I find it hard to believe their enjoyment is primarily the music 1st and then the lyrics/message 2nd. Obviously i can't speak for them .
Wow, I didn't expect to log on tonight and find three pages of comments !! I can only speak it as I see and experience it. I was VERY sceptical on my first visit but just really enjoyed the whole evening of music, singing and message ( and when I say sceptical I really mean it as I would never have envisaged myself in church for anything more than the traditional weddings, funerals etc ) My children ( 7, 8 and 11 ) loved the children's classes and are delighted every Sunday when I ask them if they want to go again. Everyone I have met has been very nice and friendly. The band, singers and music are superb. I grew up as a teenager in the seventies when life was pretty different to how it is now and as my children grow that bit older I will have to try to guide them in the right direction to ensure that they have the best start in life. From what I saw of the huge numbers of teenagers at the ALC all having a brilliant time singing etc and from what I have researched since then this is certainly a place that I would feel safe if they wanted to attend. Tony
Forgive me if i seem cynical, but Is this definitely not a promo/spread the word exercise for you?
I don't know where ALC is in Bradford, but I have a Christian friend who was invited to fill in on keyboards for a group playing at a fairly deshelved-looking church in the centre of Bradford. Half the band were American, and I must admit they were professional and talented musicians. Indeed it was one of those 'sing-a-long' things, where they projected the lyrics of the song onto a screen above the band, and I was amazed to see all these people in the church dancing around and clapping their hands. It was evident though, that they were enjoying the music because it was good music (sounded just as good in rehearsal to me), not because of anything else (but being an Atheist I would say that, wouldn't I?).
I disagree. I don't believe they'd behave in that way to just any good music ? Only music which reinforces or that's associated with their beliefs ...imho
