2.
I can usually spot a guitarist playing bass, it generally comes out as complete mush - I've always found that drummers make quite good bass players though...
Huzzah.
3. 100% a-okay second hand Ampeg B2RE with flight rack case. Deal or not at £300? Window of opportunity closing soon!
4. Watched the other videos in the series. Every single one is absolute tosh and he never actually teaches what the title suggests.
5. Jake, I'm not quite sure I caught how it was you wanted DBs to be kept. What was it again?
6. That's what he's planning on doing, but the head uses a single jack patch bay as opposed to seperate send and return connectors. Therefore he has to use an insert cable to break in.
7. I'm 12 and what is this?! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Trace-elliot-/270712...=item3f07b9aa39 Unlike any of their products I've seen before
8. Yes. It's not designed for toddlers but it shouldn't be too hard to work out what to do with it providing you know the basic jargon and words that'll be used in the control software.
9. It's usually referred to as an Insert cable.
10. Does that mean a fairy has just died?
11.
Rejecting any drummer who uses Ahead is very OTT, but I kind of get the point.
Yeah, that was more to make a point than anything else
I'm not a drummer, but I do dabble from time to time and have had a go with Aheads. Their weight and balance mace it very easy for me to play straight and hard, which can made me seem much more consistent than I actually was, but trying to play with any nuance was impossible for me (hey, I can play a few rudiments...). I don't think they'd necessarily hinder good drummers, but I can see how they'd help limited drummers in certain circumstances (ie, Lars Ulrich).
I will explain why this is shortly, and also cover why they make things harder for good drummers.
12. Yeah, your choice of sticks is best compared to a bassist's choice of strings.
13.
Would you expect to be immediately forgotton because you turned with an X brand rather than Y brand
Gear choices show the person's awareness of their instrument amongst other things. I'm away from home at the moment, I'm back tomorrow and will be making a video to explain my theory relating to ahead sticks. Show it to any drummer and I'm sure they'll agree with the ideas.
14. I will write a long reply as it's hard to explain in brief why they help some drummers but not others. As for Lars and Joey using them, they get paid a lot of money for their endorsement. I bet if they were choosing in free will, they'd definitely be going elsewhere.
15. Sounds very much like the drums are out of sync. It's not down to drummer error by speeding up etc, rather that every hit comes in too early because the drum track isn't put in properly.
16. I have the Saffire Pro 40 Firewire. Definitely recommended, IMO best in class, and exactly what you're looking for it seems!
17.
Really? There's a million of them out there
I hope you realised I was joshing there Take that joke like a tequila shot! (with salt...) It's just that there's less female drummers overall, and therefore the portion of good ones is EVEN smaller!
like this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkqTg7iqx94
She good.
18.
Really? Why's that? Who cares if they use Ahead sticks if they can play? You can't measure a player by their sticks. As an example, one of the loudest rock players I know uses Vater 7A Manhattens.
When it comes to Ahead sticks, the easy way of me explaining them is that they make it harder to play if you're a good drummer. If you lack technique they'd probably help, bit like waterwings. When it comes to the drummer you've mentioned, if he's loud and that's his thing, then all he's doing by using 7A sticks is making things harder for himself
19. Not a problem. I picked up the Little Giant head for £160 second hand, the cab came new at £200. I have since added a second cab and also rack mounted the head with a compressor. I am playing with selling the Ashdown setup to pursue my Ampeg dreams. I don't suppose you're anywhere down south are you?
20.
I do have a rather spiffing compressor button on my amp
o.O
21. With bassists/guitarists a good thing to look for to see if someone is good is their ability to tune. There are many other measures for drummers, perhaps one is the sticks they use, or NO sticks as it is in this case. Personally, I'd immediately forget any drummer who turns up with the AHEAD carbon sticks for example.
22. Once again this proves the theory. Girls can't drum well. Now if you excuse me, I'll be sipping from my glass of awesomeness.
23. Realised I don't have the necessary funds to buy the replacement rig I was after so for the moment I'll be hanging on to this.
24. I used to use the Perfect 10 Minirig which was the predecessor to your's. Put simply, it's not really possible to upgrade it realistically. If you're loving the sound then consider looking at some more upmarket Ashdown gear? I did exactly the same.
