My notes:

Things like grammar, punctuation, capitalisation etc. Every single mistake, no matter how small, seems sloppy.
Make it clear up front whether it's a permanent replacement or temporary. You also witter on a bit much in the opening paragraph - "and as she should with a little one on the way." is totally unnecessary.
"zany singing drummer" - remove "zany"
"very childish 40 year old" - I know that this seems endearing, but for many people a 40 year old who behaves like a kid is a huge red flag
Rather than say "it's not going to be a major source of income", just say how many gigs you do, and clarify that you have no plans to increase or decrease that number. They'll be able to do the sums.
"would not be against doing originals" - try to express this in a way that sounds a bit more self-confident.
S.P.
This exactly. I read the advert before reading the thread and I think I would have declined the audition, unless I was absolutely desperate to get out of the house.
 2.
I have some facility on the instrument. I'm self taught. I can't really read music. I know scales. I mainly practice through modes up and down the neck so I know where the notes are and I know chords and some arpeggios. But I don't know what I should be practising to get get really good - I mean to really know what to play. I can noodle around, and it sounds semi-impressive (because that's what's important of course!), but i suspect it's not really 'proper' music. I'm not aspiring to be a jazzer or a theory buff, just to be a really good player. So what do I need to focus on? Do i need to improve technique and learn tapping and slapping? Should i learn to read? What do i need to do so i don't get stuck in scale/mode patterns? I think that's the problem. Thanks.
Are you in a band? If not, that is your next step. Tapping? Not exactly the most useful skill...
 3. ... and I think you get the second issue you order free
 4.
Happy to hear that. Question - might be answered on the website somewhere... What's the frequency of the deliveries? Monthly? Weekly? Fortnightly? How do you get charged? Nothing happened to my account yet, and it never said explicitly when and/or how much I would be charged initially and what happens then. Thanks
Two issues delivered a month (both at the same time I think) and charged after delivery.
 5. I am seriously impressed with the quality of the pressing of the first three lps. Kind of Blue is an album I've been listening to for the past twenty years and I'm blown away by this version. It sounds fuller than my CD copy... I don't know whether that's because I want it to be good because I'm an old fart longing for his teen years, but I'm enjoying it anyway...
 6. Apparently it's a Pro-Ject turntable developed specifically for this series. It looks most like this: http://www.project-audio.com/main.php?prod=essential2digital&cat=turntables&lang=en My guess is it's a slightly lower spec'd version.
 7.
does this turntable look like Rega RP1 to anyone else too? Also, the website says you can have it with 4th delivery for an extra £2 per issue, but I don't see any option to choose in the order form
Ah... I found that by being drunk when subscribing you find that option and tick it quite accidentally.
does anybody know if there is a possibility that these issues are not permitted to be played in public places, for example cafes etc?
Not sure why they would be?
 8.
These 10 will get you a long way.... 1. Sonny Rollins - The Bridge 71. Miles Davis Milestone - Miles Davis
I'd add the Dave Brubeck, Cannonball Adderley, Joe Pass, Wes Montgomery and Herbie Hancock albums to that mix. Miles Smiles would also be a good one.
 9.
Issue 2 is 9.99 future issues are 14.99 I may be wrong, but I'm guessing that these are digitally remastered, so I can't see the point? As somebody already said, cd is probably better quality............
Apparently not... I'm no audiophile but I've been impressed so far, to the extent that I subscribed.
 10. It's a Highway One Precision. These had a thinner coat that was intended to wear more quickly... they were also a fair bit cheaper than the USA Series basses.
 11.
Maybe he's Ill ?
I think he is. http://www.shrinktank.com/a-psychologists-perspective-on-kanye-west/
 12. It's just convention. I regularly jam with a guy who has a guitar with dots on the fifth, seventh, tenth and twelfth frets.
 13. I'm extremely happy with it... good natural sound from the pickup. Perfect for floating bridge acoustics.
 14. Took delivery of one of these today http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Acus-One-5-Acoustic-Amp-Wood/1BUI Seems like a nice bit of kit, but I'm yet to plug into it as I'm waiting for a K&K Definity pickup system to transform my Cigane G15 into an electro acoustic.
 15.
I need to stop worrying and rethink my goals. When I started I would of been really pleased with my current ability.
Absolutely. I don't imagine many people ever get to the point that they think they're great at playing. Normal people at least. I frequently feel embarrassed at my ability when playing with other musicians but it's at a level that would have impressed me three years ago and that would have probably blown me away when I was fifteen. I'll echo what others have said... join a band. It makes a huge difference to your playing. Don't just go for bands who advertise themselves as beginners... a lot of bands oversell themselves.
 16. I usually find it quicker to transcribe the tune myself and learn it, rather than trying to learn it from written music or tab.
 17.
As a footnote, this is almost definitely a Bill Evans tune. Miles was famed for nicking compositions from his band members. As a rule of thumb, it seems that any "Miles" tune Bill recorded in his own right was actually written by him eg, Blue in Green, Nardis.
Have a listen to Sonny by Chuck Wayne, recorded 8 years before Miles recorded Solar: https://audioboom.co...-by-miles-davis
 18. Spotted this on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Italia-Modulo-electric-bass-precision-style/351644845342?_trksid=p2047675.c100012.m1985&_trkparms=aid%3D555012%26algo%3DPW.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140221143856%26meid%3D2f23431d12cc404085bf206d97a7382d%26pid%3D100012%26rk%3D7%26rkt%3D27%26sd%3D272122759805 That pickup arrangement is interesting... does it have any impact on the responsiveness of the bass?
 19. They're not awful, I bought one in 1992 and kept it for five years, but this seems a lot. Now, the jack guitar is something I still want.
 20.
Just home from final practice before our 2 date trip to Portugal next weekend... Our guitarist has a new toy. A Boss DD-500 delay pedal... What a difference a pedal makes. This thing is fantastic compared to his old DD-3 We use a fair bit of delay and tempo based effects. With the old pedal ,if the drummer drifted out of time with the guitar delay we lost it...and since he struggles playing to a click (he never bothers), playing to a delay meant we often were all over the place.. but this thing is magic...guitard can adjust delay time with his foot by tapping along on the pedal and it'll adjust the delay time according to the delay type programmed in the patch...that means we can have tempo changes and when we get to the bit that requires the delay it'll actually be in time. And he can select patches with his foot too...so he programmes a sequence of patsches to follow the set list and tada...every delay is in time! I can honestly say this single pedal has made a huge difference to the way we sound and tonight we played better than ever!
Tap tempo is fantastic... I've had a couple of Boss DD5s with FS5U tap pedals... sounds great even with a sloppy drummer
 21.
I'm guessing 68 is actually Louis Armstrong plays W.C. Handy. Don't see the point myself - if you want the music, get the CDs - way better audio quality. This just looks like an exercise in faux-nostalgia to me.
I don't know... I have about thirty of these albums already on CD, but would quite like them on vinyl. I got a turntable last month and broke out some of my old records and found I was enjoying listening to them more than I do to CDs... Could be nostalgia, but could also be the physical act of taking the record out of the sleeve and carefully putting the needle onto the record.... forces you to treat it with some reverence and to listen to the record from start to finish. The list of records in the series is a good sampling of classic jazz recordings.
 22.
Lawks! No Ornette...
10. Something else!!! - Ornette Coleman
 23.
So just to be clear, issue 73 is on Jaco Pastorius?
Looks like it...
