....which is basically a minor pentatonic scale with an added flat 5th is used in blues when the usual 1,4,5 tunes use major chords? When i play to a 12 bar blues tune and over the 1,4,5 i use major chord tones and drop a flat 7th to spice things up.... ....unless the use of the blues scale isnt for tunes based on 1,4,5 progression! No doubt an obvious answer to this that i dont know!
Are you asking about the use of the minor third over a major third? Don't worry about it... think of it as a #9 rather than a minor third. Think of the "Hendrix chord"... E7#9. You could write a PhD thesis on the use of blue notes, the use of b5 and #9 alt7 dominants to add tension, the #9/b3 ambiguity as a vehicle to imply emotion, etc. and probably trace its history back to field hollers and work songs, but blues isn't something that particularly benefits from over-analysis.
Someone is interested in swapping my unused Ibanez guitar for a Vintage les Paul copy. Now, if it were the current range with the Wilkinson pickups I'd be all over it. But the one on questions is an older version from late 90s so non Wilkinson pickups or hardware. Anyone know if they are still any good for what they are or avoid?
What sort of Ibanez?
As far as I'm aware all Stingrays are ash.
Not all, there are some (old) solid colour instruments that are poplar. Some were alder.
-
It's going to be ash.

I really shouldn't look at this page!

Looking forward to seeing the paint stripped... Maybe these are a source of decent quality bodies.
Notice the headstock on the first strat. It's a hondo or something? Once he smashes it, he then is given the proper one to finish the song with.
Steve Vai used to do the same... swap his Jem for a cheapo RG, smash it up then pick up the Jem again... the broken guitars would be rebuilt between shows.

I remember these... once you got past the gimmick, they were a bit "meh".
I don't want or intend this thread to get into any kind of debate about whether a Fodera is value for money, etc. but I'd appreciate some opinions from people. My budget will enable me to purchase either: 1. A Fodera Monarch 4 Standard ...or... 2. A combination of these: Fender American Deluxe Precision Fender American Standard Jazz Fender American Standard Precision Music Man Stingray Music Man Sterling Suggestions? I've never bought a bass without playing it first and unfortunately I wouldn't be able to try the Fodera before actually buying it so it's a bit of a gamble if I went that route. That is my biggest concern with the Fodera - A LOT of cash on a bass I can't play before buying.
Absolutely no idea, but I was intrigued by your gear list... "6 delay pedals???" thinks I... "I've got to hear this!" I really like this:
Here's the wood grain in neck cavity of my Encore P-Bass, not sure what is it:
It could indeed be black limba, which bizarrely is quite a sought after wood... Might look awesome stripped, but then it might look horrible... Alternatively the notion that they used black limba/korina may just be a rumour started when someone popped the neck off and tried to identify the wood. Korina may just have been the closest visual match, and Encore/Sunn just used a local cheap Indian wood that doesn't appear on charts of tonewoods. Looking at Kadoogan's bass, they obviously used some sort of ash/alder for some of their basses.
-
I've read that Indian Sunn Mustangs are Black Limba/Korina. Don't know how true that is, but it would account for the weight.
I have an Encore bass from the early '90's. It is P/J style (i.e. has Precision style split-coil and Jazz pick-ups) in sunburst. I have no idea what model name or number it is, as there is nothing to indicate it. Never got much use as I had the intention to learn to play, and it just never happened. I am now starting again, but am rocking a Jack Casady, which I much prefer. I do need to get rid of it but I have no idea how much to ask for it. Had a look on the net to get an idea, but have never managed to find anything about such a bass from Encore.
A photo might help, but you may not manage to pin it down to a specific model... not many people would have paid enough attention to them to be able to remember details like that. They were a budget range sold in Argos... not the sort of thing that people get that enthusiastic about. That's not to say it's a bad instrument. In any case you're not going to get much for it. £20 to £40 is a reasonable price, depending on condition. You might get more if there's a case or an amp included. It might be worth advertising it for £50 on the for sale boards at your local supermaket.
How well does the "amp emulation in a pedal" idea work in front of an actual amp with its own voicing and character? I always wonder if it might end up over-egging the pudding a little, though I imagine a midrangey tweed emulation in front of a slightly scooped BF/SF Fender could be quite useful.
I used to use my Boss pedal in front of a Marshall MG series amp... it made a sh*t amp sound really, really good. It probably didn't sound exactly like a Fender deluxe. You obviously want to start with a fairly neutral tone. I was trying to get rid of amps all together and DI it... didn't quite get it right.
-
Does it do the same/similar as this little fella? I had the 65 deluxe reverb version and it was a fantastic pedal
Ive had a few of the indian encores i believe there solid wood also the sunn p bass is the same bass made in india also
I believe they were made in the same factory. Fender bought Sunn in 1987 and discontinued the instruments within a few years, probably due to the fact they already had a line at the same price point (Squier Affinity). I've played a couple of them... weren't horrendous... a good project bass perhaps.
Bleeagh! It's just about tolerable on the Pawn Shop Mustang, but these are rank (imo):
Not overly keen on the stripe, but like the colours... is that Sherwood Green?

First thing I would do is bin the glucosamine. It simply doesn't work and taking high doses may harm you.
Isn't that what she thought the issue was really though? Try one time really hard and another time just not trying to do anything other than relax and groove.
It sounded like she knew there was an issue (lack of groove), could tell it was something to do with the bass but was unable to figure out what the exact nature of the issue was. I bet concentration isn't even part of the problem. "Groove" is a difficult thing for people to understand... it's obvious when it's there and it's obvious when it's not.

Does anyone play in an 80's covers/tribute band?
dlloyd replied to paul h's topic in General Discussion
Well it looks like my current lot are not going for the 80's thing However they have agreed to concentrate on songs from the 80's onwards. I'm not convinced this will be the band for me anyway so maybe I can go 80's with my next band!
I think you should look for that next band sooner rather than later. Your idea is great, although I would modify the approach to picking songs a bit... Maybe look at the top ten for every week for a few years (the late 80s were crap) and pick one or two songs from each week that you'd like to play live. The list you put up has some good stuff, but it's a bit diffuse in terms of style. -

1-5-2 chord progression....eg: verve lucky man...is it rare?
dlloyd replied to iconic's topic in Theory and Technique
The term "key" is meant to indicate the parent scale from which the progression is formed.
No, the key really does refer to the tonal centre. A progression consisting entirely of Em Am Dm, is not in C major. Edit: and I'm also conscious that this appears argumentative... not my intention -

dlloyd replied to iconic's topic in Theory and Technique
Yes, but "key" and "home" do not necessarily have to be the same.
Technically they are the same thing. However, sometimes easier is better.
