What logo would of been on a 1987 USA Fender Precision?
dlloyd replied to StevieD_FenderP2009's topic in Bass Guitars
You might be able to get the decal from Fender. There was an article in Bassplayer a few years ago where Dan Erlewhine (sp?) was refinishing a 64 jazz step by step. He stated that Fender would provide replacement decals if you had a valid reason for it. -
Might go on and ask how I would fit a Badass to my Sterling.
At one time you could ask questions like that and get a reasonable response...
Do you think so? Why?
Typical issue of a web forum becoming a victim of its own success, as I see it... I was a regular poster on that forum when it was still relatively small... from 2004 to maybe 2007... In those days modifications were frequently discussed. People used to post about swapping out their Bongo's preamp with an Aguillar OBP, or their Stingrays' necks with Status necks, or their pickups with Nordstrands, etc. No complaints other than a little light-hearted banter. The problems really came when the forum increased in size and self-moderation became impossible. A blanket ban on discussion of non-EB products was brought in partly to curtail some of the nastiness that started to happen when something as controversial as a request for recommendations for after-market pickups was posted. Something like that seems daft to those of us used to a general bass forum, but on a specialist forum such as the EB forum, there is inevitably a larger proportion of fan-boys and bandwagon-jumpers. The EB forum is great if you want to find out about EB products. If you want to talk about modifications, you really need to ask elsewhere.
I know that this has been followed up by others, but this just seems wierd to me. Would you expect to be immediately forgotton because you turned with an X brand rather than Y brand bass, or X rather than Y strings, or passive rather than active etc etc. ? I suspect not and think you'd be a bit pissed off if you were.
Actually, I would expect it in quite a few cases... you'd be daft to turn up to an audition for a Britpop type band with a seven string Conklin or to an audition for a country band with a spiky BC Rich bass.
EB has a lot of limited editions, is this the Dargie green colour one? or what is it particular about it, is it the sparkly blue burst colour? got any pics?
The 2008 ltd is this one (albeit in 4 string variety)

Tescos are doing the Motown Chartbusters series for about a fiver for the first four discs. Loads of classics on that.
And I noticed that the band is endorsed by a brand of strings, so why not ask them what they say?
Dovetail strings... not a real endorsement. The tuning is a fairly standard guitar tuning (drop C) minus the top D. To balance the string tensions, you really want to be going for: A: .040" F: .050" C: .070" G: .090" C: .130" You'll probably have to make up that yourself. What I'd do is to slap on a set of Rotosound Funkmasters (.030 - .090) with an additional stainless steel .130 and see what the volume balance is like.
Okay to someone who knows absolutely nothing whats that Thats the only rolling shutter I know.
Rather than capturing the entire image at once (global shutter), the image from most digital cameras is scanned. It's essentially the same thing that happens if you photocopy a moving object.
Have you posted pics on the EBMM forum? The guys their really embrace home modifications like this! Ha While your there send big poppa a message to see if he likes it and ask him if he thinks it would sound better with a j-east preamp and a Kent Armstrong pickup, The reply will be Internet gold I'm sure......
Yes! Go and act like an arse on someone else's forum and see if anyone calls you an arse! Comedy gold!
I bought an old EBMM Sterling just before christmas...
Yes you did... that's a very early example, one of the first to come off the line in 1993, Flea bridge, mutes fitted... pretty rare, best keep that pristine... Oh, wait....
A life-long (well since 1980) pre-EB Stingray player, I have succumbed to the attractions (i.e. regular good gigs) of playing in a 60's Stax tribute band. So, I need some authentic P-bass (or possibly J-bass) looks and sounds now. I like a quality instrument so willing to spend what it takes to get a good one, but remained unconvinced by paying huge sums for a genuine 60's instument. So, looking for a top-flight clone e.g. Lakland, Sadowsky, Fender Custom Shop. But all these require importing from the US with the resulting import and tax penalties. Would you go for a UK builder and if so who?
Nope, I would look in the classifieds here for a 62 RI Fender P. I'd probably go for a Japanese non-export one over a US model.
Oh alright, I'll bite. Why Side 2?
Technical difficulties accumulated in the 26 minutes since you put on side one.
I was thinking of getting this on vinyl, I bet it'd sound amazing.
Be careful if buying it second hand... side two is almost always scratched to hell...

IIRC, SR5s switched to ceramic in 1993, at the same time the Sterling was introduced.

Own up, did you think your bass/guitar was plastic?
When you first started playing did you realise the body was made out of wood? I didn't
-
I used to have a Jim Deacon strat, which is an SX with a different badge. By and large it was a nice-ish guitar, but really could have done with better quality components. The frets wore very quickly, the tuners were cheesy and needed replacement within a couple of years, the pickups were a bit rubbish, but the body was very nice, and the neck itself was solid. You can have a fantastic instrument if you like modding, but you can easily end up paying more than you would for a new MIM Fender for an instrument that's worth considerably less in terms of resale value.
