    Ramp

It's for the yellow Bogart that I've just got - you'll find the pictures on the Bogart thread . The MM pickups are right tight together , but my regular MM , I've raised the PU really high (with gaffer tape to stop the strings hitting the pole pieces) , and have lost some sustain due to the proximity of the PU magnets affecting the string vibrations - common issue apparently . So I wanted to leave the PU heights as they were , then just fit a small cut to size , sheet of Perspex over the top of them both . So my question is really only about the issue of using a magnet style fixing system on the ramp , and if that will in any way affect the magnets in the pick ups .

They look good if I had a jazz bass , I'd get that - never seen these before . I'll save that link , thanks for that . I have two of the new MM style pick ups though , and I'll not find an off the shelf one alas . So a homemade one is my only option .

Just want to pick peoples brains on this . Thinking of a ramp between two pickups . Thought of an idea of a clear bit of Perspex , cut to sit over both pickups . Sounded out a mate who's a luthier , and he's got a spare Perspex pickguard that he can cut to fit perfectly . Regarding the fixing , my thoughts were to source a couple of those really thin cupboard door magnets , glue to the underside of the Perspex , then it will attach to the pickups - and can be slotted on and off as required - sort of like those magnet attached electrics panels on some high end basses . He wasn't sure whether the small magnets may affect the pickups . I've no idea really . Does anyone on here know if this will be an issue with the pickups?
  4. No excuses for me posting this graphite beauty again . Delivered 2 days ago .
  5. Well I've been mooting the idea of a full yellow bass for the last 20 odd years . Spoke to Rob Green at Status when I was down there years ago getting a bass fixed , and he really wasn't receptive to the idea of it at all . Would've been a headed Stealth 5 , but today's prices , plus the massive quote he implied around the paint job , would bring the price well over 3.5 K . Similar spec'ed bass that Stefan made for me was around 2-2.5 K - can't remember the exact figure . Got lucky with a work BT share save finishing a 5 year plan ; so half for my 50th folly (Bogart) , and other half for a Dingwall 5P , that I've paid house fund back by selling shed loads of gear . Tried 5's years ago , and never got on with them , but now just gonna jump feet first in and force myself - handy for the function deps , whenever that'll be again . Never ever played a Bogart before , so taking a massive leap of faith . But I thought that I'd just order something really unique , but not too 'out there' - though I realise 'not too out there' will be disputed by most on here . Also helps that I'm a complete graphite fan boy .
  6. Stefan has sent some other pics for me , before he posts it . He's putting them up on his main FB page , but wanted me to see them first - he's a real gent .
  7. In my Facebook inbox this afternoon - being shipped tomorrow .
  8. I thought that might've happened . In the middle of moving stuff around at he moment , was going to be in the market for yours in a month or two , and you had to go and do something stupid , like play it again - he he
  9. Do people actually buy these , do you think? Well I suppose they must do
  10. I'm not sure if it's Bogart that made the Shack necks , or Shack who make the Bogart necks . I think Stefan ships a lot of his work out , so might be worth asking him . You might be lucky and get a result - not stuck still waiting 18 months for a bass and given the right royal run around , like me . But that's a story for another thread .
  11. And got to buy a case for it separately .
  12. It'll never sell without saying what the string spacing is at the bridge - amateurs I say
  13. Slight derailment here , but how do you guys think that this would compare to a Sadowsky? https://thebassgallery.com/collections/bass/products/don-grosh-jazz-5
  14. I've got some gear on the cusp of selling , and was looking to hit the button on one of these from PMT ; but this has put me right off really . Not very good from them - how would I know that they'd not send me another knocked about one?
  15. I'm with Al on this one . The thought of faffing about with a PC or laptop just turns me off . I also don't own a smart phone , so some of these synth pedals will have functions that I can't access - and before you think I'm a luddite ; I'd say there's more people like me than you might think . I've though about the C4 or the FI , but I'd only be using the patches it comes with .
  16. This is exactly what I'm finding out about my pending Bogart build (when and if it finally gets finished . Surprised me
  17. This is one of the great debut albums I reckon . Similar to the Police's first effort , in that is sort of said - we're here . I'll have to check this out again on YT - vinyl has long gone alas .
  18. When I was 13 this was an influential album .
  19. Something similar here in Bass Direct . https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/ENKI_Cases.html
  20. I'm holding my 751 for him - until lockdown is over and we can meet up
  21. I bought one of these a few years ago , and still have it boxed up. Tried it again the other day straight into a power amp , then speaker . It has a lovely sound (really nice) , but found that it doesn't like pedals before it at all - just seems to overload it way too much . And also that 12 or 15 volt power supply is a bit of a pain - why not 9 or 18 volt?
  22. This sort of topic has come up on and off over the years on here . I can see the logic on multi band nights , using a DI box for speed . But as BigRedX (think that's the correct name) has said , they never do it with the guitar do they? Why do us bass players have to put up with just a horrible DI only box sound (in most of these multi band dos) , and never a nice mic off our cabs?
  23. Another lovely bass Dave . You do have an awesome collection . I'd say good luck with the sale , but I know that this is one of your main basses , so not being sold lightly . Best of luck . Paul .
  24. Dave Swift's one is here - yummy . https://thebassgallery.com/collections/bass/products/sadowsky-nyc-p5
