but E Sharp dont mention the "sweet spot" as you will get BigRedX going off again!
Ha ha , you're probably right . The sweet spot , as I see it , is sort of anywhere between the 'P' and MM position . Sort of like Esh Various rear pick up , or the front pick up of a Vigier Passion . I've had shed loads of basses over the years , and played others , and I've yet to hear a rear pick up that stands up on it's own . I realise I may be rubbing people up by stating this , but this is just as I've found it . All of the 2 pick up basses , when the rear is selected , need some blend of the front , to give a bit of weight ( unless it's a solo - chordal piece etc , then fair do's ) . Which , IMO , is one of the reasons for the beauty of the Stingray , and why the Sabre never caught on in the same way (and before I'm slated by Sabre lovers , I owned a nice Pre EB one for years - Rhino's got it now ) . The MM HH has it's rear pick up in the Stingray position , and another up front (same as the Warwick $$) , so the rear pick up is meaty in it's own right . I'm not trying to be confrontational , or trying to wind people up over this , but this is just my opinion , and judging by the amount of 2 pick up basses , I'm probably in a minority here . I do own 2 pick up basses that I like , it's just I don't tend to use them much . Feel free to slate me , as it's getting that time of night where a few drinks are down .

MM . Sweet spot position either the same as MM or slightly forward , but not back . Don't need 2 pick ups . Just move your right hand forward or back when plucking . Most of the sounds can be had out of one PU (IMO) .

Not last night , but the night before (Saturday) . 15th Soggy Moggy Bike rally at Woodgreen Animal Shelter , Godmanchester . Last band on , headline on the last night . Enjoyed the Feelgood tribute act before us . Then a " Mr and Mrs " rally competion . Which consisted of a handful of naked men on stage , hulla hooping . Then they asked for women , only 2 came forward though , which is 2 more than I though would do it . All in all , something a bit different you could say . Big PA , 5 way monitor mix - really nice . 1000 punters , constant ale (though I was driving as usual) . But a late one . Not on until just gone 10pm , and somehow managed , without a piss break , to play straight through until 12:45am . Corker of a gig , probably a bit further than we normally go , but well worth it . Hit the sack at 4am - feel it more now than I used to

Burns , Thunderbird , Beatle bass , BC Rich and Stanley Clarke Alembic (though more the look of someone trying to off set the dreadful balance of a 5K bass)

I'm liking that PJB . Why do they have the 2nd power input on the rear ?

Anyone thinking of buying from Rondomusic.com?
I ordered an SG scratchplate from the USA - it was supposed to be $18, but customs intercepted it & wanted another £22 to make it match UK prices (after holding it for 3 weeks without telling me). I told them to send it back & I'd get a refund. The customs bloke couldn't believe it & banged on about all the hassle they'd have to go thru to do that, oh how I laughed.
About 20 yrs ago , I was one bottle of Whisky over the limit when I went through customs (when they had limits as such) , and they wanted quite a bit off of me . Told them to keep it , went to walk off , and they asked me if I wanted to come to a deal I paid a couple of quid , and I was on my way with it . I never thought about the hassle factor for them , I suppose it was the same . Good on ya . -

That looks like my old bass . I sold it to a guy in Watton about 20 yrs ago , and he still owes me £100 of the installments - lesson learnt there I think . Did you find an old Bartolini active boost in the control cavity , wired by some numpty 20yr old I always thought that these were SB700's - the passive version of the SB1000 . I know you say cash only , but are up for a trade of a boxed up Korg G5 plus £100 to you . I'm in Norfolk .

It is slowly getting better , but those typos mentioned are hard to understand . The missing text on last month's issue with the 3 session guys - no mention in this month's about it (already been brought up) . The Stanley Clarke interview also went form one page to another with some obvious text missing . I struggle to realise how they can keep getting issues like this . Also I was wondering if they could do something with the photos in the reviews . The TC combo review this month has a picture of part of the front panel , blurring at the edges . Then turn the page , and it's another part of the front panel , blurring at the edges . Not one picture of the complete front end . Plus a meaningless picture of a part of the grill at the bottom (what's that all about) . I don't mean to sound negative , but the photos in the review virtually show me nothing about it . I would say , one large frontal picture (to replace the sideways one) , a large front on picture of the front panel (instead of bits and pieces) , a picture of the rear panel (not even shown) , and that would do it . No more 'arty' shots , it's supposed to be a factual article . All this aside , I still like the mag , and will continue to buy it .

OOOHH YES . I'm free . Excellent

Played a couple of Warwicks over the years , and everyone was a dog . Tried a Dolphin 2 with the view to buy at the Gallery , and really loved the look , but it was dreadful . A real shame , as I must be just unlucky judging by the amount of people on here who play them .

Hi all , sort of OK now with the fuzz , and now looking for a bitchin octave pedal . Obviously Boss OC2 and EBS are favourites , but has anyone tried out the MXR new one , or the Aguilar new one . These look more in depth on the surface . What do you guys / gals use , and your reasons , ie anyone AB'd them . If there's a link to a previous thread , then let me know . Cheers , Paul .

I never knew Si , didn't even know that was his name . There's not much that I can add to what's been said here . Dreadful news - RIP fellow bassist .

2 in a double gig bag . Never used the spare - ever . Had a sizable collection years ago , now whittled down somewhat , but in 18 yrs only ever gigged the one . Always take the spare just in case . And regarding the tuning down mentioned , I can tune down to a C or D manually quite quickly - no need for a 5'er .
E Sharp. Have you had an eye test recently? That aint Mr Pratt, that`s the guy who plays bass with Robbie Williams. I would reconise that black P bass anywhere. If it`s Guy, he wearing a fat suit!! I got his name, it`s Jerry Meehan. Jez Cleuso
I said "I might be proved wrong" , and it appears I have been . It just looked like him , albeit a tad more hefty . What with the P bass (thought it was one of his Nash's) , the Ashdown head and 8x10 (which I know he uses) , and the Avalon DI on top of the amp (I know he has / had , an Avalon 737SP mic pre) . Yeah , and my eyes , at 41 , are not what they were . I look in the mirror , and still think I look rather snazzy, though the wife soon tells me (that's her job) . Also I can't compete with the crawling being dished out , but if you're reading this Guy , I bought your book , thought it was great , and not leant it to anybody
If he`s reading this thread, can you tell me why you weren`t playing with Roxy Music on Johnathan Ross`s last show? It was the guy who plays with Robbie Williams (cue someone who knows his name) who is a great player but the only reason I watched the bloomin show was to watch Guy on bass! Is he playing with Roxy in January when they are on tour? Jez
If you've still got it on tape/hard disc/digi box , or whatever , have a look again - it was him . I didn't think so at first , but the few shots you got of him confirmed it - just a bit more weight than his previous photos show I might be proved wrong , but I'm pretty sure .

Did a dep last night with a group of young uns near Norwich . I mean I'm only 41 , but listening to them talking to their mates whilst outside on a fag break , I suddenly felt quite old . Just the standard fare of Hendrix , 12 bar and the like , plus a few originals . Their lack of gigging and experience was obvious at times , and I felt like I was holding it down for them , but if I'm honest , remembering how I played at 15 , then they're miles ahead of where I was .
Played at The Grapes in Bury St Edmunds last night. Brilliant night as usual, except 3/4 of the way through the second set, when a friend of the band came up and i had some of her WKD. Thegirl that had been dancing in front of me and flirting lots barged into said friend of the band and told her she was my girlfriend(!!!), and a mini shoving fight ensued. The end result was a pint of beer spilt over my pedals and the area I was standing in. The bar staff then chucked a single dish cloth over. Great! Other than that though, it was a great night!
Yeah we're there Oct 23rd , best gig we do . Always rammed , plenty of eye candy , but a long night .
Stevie got a great synth style....totally Jamerson influenced. His line on 'Boogie on Reggae Woman' is pure genius.
+1 This for me has got to be one of the best bass tracks on a "pop" record ever . Also the synth bass on Chakka Khan's "whatcha...." album . Anthony Jackson gets all the credit , but I hear more synth bass than bass guitar on it . "We can work it out" and "Night in tunisia" , to my ears , sound like synth bass , and probably played by Herbie Hancock ? Though I await to be pulled up on this .

I've just noticed on Ebay , a Vigier up for - buy now 3.5k , and starting bid of 2.5k . Needless to say , it's marked up as 'rare' . It is an old one granted , but from what I've seen on here and on Ebay , the buy it now , seems about 3 times optimistic . Not even any movement on it over on the Vigier chat room . They seem to go for aroung a grand - case in point , that sunburst one on hear a few months ago , that was the finest I've seen . This has gotten me thinking , how many 'rare' basses are there out there ? Because it seems like many on Ebay are chancing their arm , much like those numpties in Denmark St , and marking down everything as 'rare' , in the off chance someone will be gullable to believe it . Anyone else seen any classic ads ?
