What I like most is that it can get really heavy and distorted, but it still retains the note distinction and "gnarl" thanks to the treble booster. I find that the TK-421-X (and any other RAT clone for that matter) gets a bit flabby and indistinct if you try to push the gain too much. I use the Whammy a lot, mostly for the harmony settings (8ve up/down, 5th up/6th up (pedal steel-esque) and 5th up/8ve up mainly). I feel it's more natural-sounding than the POG, especially with the Knightfall after it, and the 'Chords' mode is great. One of my bands is a piano/bass/drums three-piece, so I'll use the Whammy in conjunction with the Strymon and Neunaber sometimes for guitar-like parts, and it's pretty convincing. I did try the POG first, and actually HATED it! Very weak octave down, and the octave up was like some crappy midi sound to my ears, and just too piercing to be useful... -

The current set up, which has changed recently with the addition of Wounded Paw blender and Crowella Animated (excellent Human Gear Animato clone, which I got dirt cheap! ). I know four dirt pedals is a lot, but they are individually very distinct, and used for different purposes. Currently, the Whammy goes into the Knightfall 66 (Punisher) which is always on, low gain. This goes into the Tall Font Russian for subby, floor-destroying moments, then the TK-421-X (Signor Gattino) for gnarly grind (and the odd RATM jam! ). The Animated's parallel blended with this chain, and sounds particularly awesome alongside the Knightfall and/or TFR. It's also particularly effective to turn on solo, which drastically cuts the low end, for any solo sections, then kick everything else back in for a very heavy impact! As Si said, have you tried just bass > POG > amp? It may be that the POG is converting some weird artefact or buzz that's coming before it, and producing an octave up version of this noise?...

[/quote] IMO, and for the price, the Limelight basses are very well made. Mine sounded great acoustically, little truss tweak but the neck was buzz and 'dead spot' free! The pickups are also fantastic and really brought out the acoustic tone of the bass! Hard to explain, and no idea if Mark (Limelight) winds them himself...The neck also felt convincingly worn in, as though it had been played for years! I was never particularly convinced by the relic job, but they feel so good, as most Limelight owners on here will profess. The Sandberg had a great, hot and powerful sound with the preamp, but really lacking and with a boomy E string in passive mode IME. It was really light in its favour, and the relic job on the body was nice, but the neck was not at all aged or worn in, and I found it a bit chunky...The quality was ok, just didn't feel like it was quite worth the money I paid for it!

Have you seen the Limelight thread here!? http://basschat.co.uk/topic/243644-the-show-us-your-limelight-thread/page__pid__2773482__st__570#entry2773482 I had a Limelight 64-style Jazz for a while, and it was awesome! Looked as good as the real thing, and certainly sounded as good. Also had an older Glockenlang loaded Sandberg Jazz too, for about two weeks...It was lovely, but I just never got used to the feel or sound.

Great stuff Gaz! :-) Have you tried stacking the Knightfall yet? It works so well! I have my Knightfall 66 on lowish gain (about 10 o'clock) going into the TFR full gain, tone around 2 o'clock (the 'default' setting from experience!...). Gives the TFR the top end that it's lacking IMO! Also works well going into the TK-421, low gain also (9-10 o'clock) to give it a nice boost! :-)

I think it's a lovely bass, and such a nice colour! Who cares if it's got a signature on it if it plays and sounds good!?... If I were going to be very pernickety, I'd want binding on that neck, but that's just me!

There's a Chunk Systems Octavius Squeezer in the FS section, pretty cheap, which may suit your needs (it's listed as "chuck systems" btw though...). The sounds and patches can be put together in a modular fashion. Apparently a bit of a b**tard to program, but I think you'd be able to get the sound you want out of that...

Awesome stuff, love Russian Circles and Brian's work in TAAS and Botch! Gaz, I assume you've seen the Russian Circles Rig Rundown [url="https://youtu.be/MfTkHgfS-NU?t=19m1s"]here[/url], where he goes through his rig quite extensively...Doesn't sound like his board's changed much.

Light blue or dark blue? Dean Markley Blue Steels have dark blue winding, and Elites Stadium/Players have dark/light blue winding respectively. Galli strings also have a light blue wind...None of these were around in the 70s though! Are the ball-ends coloured, or just plain metal?

So I recently picked up a Wounded Paw Blender V3 from here and loving it, perfect for my needs! There is something quite strange that's happening though...When I'm using a channel with my distortion pedals in, I have to raise the volume on all of the pedals more than I usually would to keep them in unity volume with the clean signal (on the same channel with all pedals turned off). This only seems to happen when the pedals are coming back through the "return" of the channel. I have plugged the amp lead into the output of the last pedal, being sent out through the "send" of the channel, and this works normally and the pedal volumes do not need to be adjusted... Anyone know what's happening here!? Could it be something to do with the buffers? N.b. It's definitely not a phase issue...
