1.
I have a MIM Precision I bought blind of the bay a few years ago... a 2002 model. Turned out an absolute peach. Did some minor modding, nothing drastic, mainly cosmetic 'cept I swapped out the machines for some 70's style. A super bass. £250
Ha, I had a 2004 MIM Jazz in Agave Blue that I got for £250 too! Amazing bass and came with Lindys in it, sounded amazing. Sold it to pay rent at uni
2.
I would suggest playing a load of them & buying the one that sounds & feels right for you, regardless of the branding/made in sticker.

Absolutely this.
+1. I've owned (and still own!) a number of Fender basses, Mex, Jap and US, and I would never buy a Fender bass without trying it out now. I've found the quality to be more spotty with Fender than any other manufacturer, and just because it says "Made in the USA" on the headstock (or custom shop on the back of it!) does not dictate that it will be better than a Mexican model!
3. Thanks for your advice Pete. Well I've contacted S&T and ordered a replacement plate (inc. screws). Bit drastic but I need the Stingray for Friday, will post here to let people know whether the classic screws fit pre-eb models!
4.
How are you getting on with the bass? Any soundclips?
It's excellent! Really powerful, growly sound, which amazing considering it has just one pickup. No soundclips yet, but my GF's away next weekend so I'll probably get the cab out and record some then!
5. Also, does anyone know if the Stingray Classic plate/screws fit the Pre-EB basses?
6. Does anyone know where I can one of these!? Any help would be much appreciated! :-)
7. Dammit! These always pop up when I'm brassic! Prime era of Ernie Ball Stingray construction, GLWTS!
8. Definitely cool (see my signature! ).
9. The wah he had (and uses on this performance) is the old Morley Power Wah Boost, which I believe he inherited from Cliff Burton. They look like this, and sound totally different to the modern Morley Power Wahs. The below will give you a pretty good idea of what that sounds like! ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfiOGyMy1ag
10.
Growl is such a loose term as it means so many different things to different people - to me, growl is a Precision or Rick being driven hard (think Live at Leeds or early Rush)
See, to me that's "clank"!...
11. Neck: Maple Body: Maple Aguilar OBP-3 pre. Find a good sweet-spot and stick a Bartolini M4 pickup there. That is all.
12. Marinus bought my Spector Euro. Lovely, friendly chap, and great communication. He paid very quickly, arranged UPS pick-up (and provided calm assurance when I was worried they weren't going to turn up! ). A real asset to this community, and highly recommended!
13. Do want. Cannot afford For those not aware, this is one of the rarest, coolest basses on the planet. GLWTS!
14. The EHX Steel Leather might do what you want. It's not an overdrive/distortion, but a bass expander which provides more attack, and what could be described as "crunch".
15. Great stuff, lovely basses! May I suggest that you consider the Aguilar options (OBP-1, OBP-2, OBP-3) before choosing the tonepump. They're a lot better sounding to my ears, get closer to the US Spector sound, and will probably be cheaper than a tonepump anyway!
16.
I ended up grabbing a 3Leaf GR2 which sounds great but isn't exactly what I was looking for.... Would you guys rate the sound of the OC2 above an Octamizer? I have the latter but its definitely a different sound to the usual synth octave bass sound. Maybe I need to play with the filter knob a bit more to dial it in just right
Just get the Moog dude, it'll do exactly what you need. It is quite big, but not at all noisy.
17. Good lord. It's the holy grail... GLWTS!
18.
Hi, What's the weight?
I don't have scales with me, but if I remember correctly it's just below 4 kilos. Will check asap.
19.
Ah man is this the one that was at Mansons? I very nearly got this a few weeks ago...enjoy I'm sure it's a cracker
The very same! I did a bit of haggling, and got the price down a bit too :-) I'm playing it now, it's a beaut!
20. Bump for this looper!
21. Ok, this really needs to go now. £600 posted, or £570 if you want to collect it Won't go lower than this, it is a ridiculously low price for this beautiful bass!...
22. Thanks both! I'll definitely be posting opinion once I've played it properly. Played one in the Gallery ages ago and lusted after it ever since Haven't seen them played by anyone but Chris Wolstenholme though, and they seem pretty rare over here...
23.
If you want that classic original Fender sound Bare Knuckle is the only option that will 100% nail the sound in my experience!
+1 to this, have the Bare Knuckle PE Js in my Jazz and they're fantastic. Cost a bomb though, unfortunately!
