1. Lovely bass, if I hadn't just bought a '79 Stingray I'd be all over this! Just a suggestion, but I'd change the title to "Musicman Stingray Classic" if I were you...You may lose out on people viewing the add if they think it's a standard stingray.
 2.
http://brawlers.band...ers-and-fathers listen to when the bass comes in on that track, its a pretty aggressive tone using just the darkglass vintage microtubes, the bass plays without the guitar on one of the verses too.
I hadn't heard this, used to be in a band with Harry when I was back in Lincoln! How weird, small world!... Great track, great bass sound as always dude
 3.
my pedal is finally on its way to me! finally got paid so was able to pay the final payment! cant wait to get it in on to my board http://www.cogeffect...uk/red-five.php andy
Ah man, that looks awesome! :-)
 4. I played a G&L Tribute M-2000 at the gallery t'other day. Compared it to a L-2500 and EB Stingray, and I have to say it was a lot nicer sounding and very powerful. They're really amazing basses!
 5. P.s. Just to avoid any confusion from earlier comments, we're not playing any Chic in drop-C tuning!
 6.
Surely it must be possible to source string sets with tensions that match standard tuning while holding the tuning you require? Doesn't Circle K do this sort of thing?
Well, I was thinking that as I'm mainly going to be in CGCF, the heavier gauge string would effectively provide around the same tension as 45-105s in standard (EADG) tuning anyway? Am I wrong in thinking this? Maybe 50-110 may be more appropriate?... Probably need to start a whole new discussion about this really!
 7.
However, a word of caution about the necks and using drop tuning . I take no pleasure whatsoever in raining on anyone's parade, but the combination of a very slim profile and pretty basic, un-laminated flat-sawn construction means that the old Music Man necks are not necessarily the most stable or robust , and can be rather prone to bending . I would be very reluctant to do anything that would put undue or unusual tension on the neck of a rare and valuable vintage bass like your incoming Stingray. You could potentially be letting yourself in for all kinds of problems, even with a four bolt fixing . Regardless of how it is bolted to the body, the neck is under the same stresses from string tension. Obviously, it's your bass so you can do just as you please, but just be aware that even with a correctly functioning truss rod, those necks need to be treated with a bit of care and respect to stay straight and true.
Aye yai yai! Well thanks for letting me know Dingus Unfortunately my other two basses are Jazz-style, so I might be a bit stuck on that front! I'll just have to try it I guess...Thanks for all the advice as usual everyone!
 8.
From my understanding, all those necks were either fixed thrown away or replaced.. be a bit rare and unlucky to get landed with one of those nowadays I'd imagine. Might even be worth more to some collectors
Yeah, apparently Leo Fender provided a load of completely straight (i.e. non-adjustable) truss rods, in a malicious move! Unbelievable...If that was the case with the one I'm getting, I'd certainly hope that would have been noticed by now! I'm going to be using this for drop C with 55-110s primarily as well, wasn't completely sure that the '79 three-bolt neck would handle that too well!?...Happy to be corrected of course!
yowser yowser yowser !!!!!!
That's the one!
 9. Thanks for the input guys! I've now played the 83, and it is jaw-droppingly good...Sounds a million times better than any EB stingray I've played. I'll be picking it up next week, good times! (If you get the geeky Stingray player reference there, shame on you! )
 10. I've got a Knightfall 66 on the way. It's going to be excellent. Don't even hesitate.
 11. Well, that satin trans-red refinish is beautifully done! Looks great with the black scratchplate too. Congrats mate, bet she's amazing!
 12. Was that on BassDirect!? Had my eye on that too! I've just gone for a black/maple 83 'ray, perhaps not golden-era but it sounds sooooo good, and my Y.O.B bass! Can't wait to get my grubby hands on it...
 13. Actually I already own the Aguilar DB924 and use it all the time with my Jazz. I was curious to see whether people had tried either of these with a Stingray, and what tonal effect it had compared to the Stingray's own preamp (i.e. whether either compliments the Stingray's humbucker or not). Just wondered as they are both 2-band, but 18v (Aguilar) and 9v (Sadowsky) respectively, plus the Aguilar OBP-1 was used in the older Modulus Flea Basses which are obviously pretty similar... Any thoughts or experience would be much appreciated!
 14.
This is disappointing
I'd still try one if you can Kev, you might like it! I think I just found it a bit smooth and "nice" sounding compared to the WH-1, when I was hoping it'd cover both bases!
 15. Not quite ;-) Meatsmoke I presume? Strikes me as more of an amplifier preamp than replacing the Stingray onboard preamp (the effect I'm going for!)...I bet that combo sounds beautiful and absolutely massive though! :-)
 16. I tried one of these yesterday, and was really disappointed actually. Although I like the new harmony options, the chord mode just sounds a bit fake/digital to me and the classic mode does not react in the same way as my Whammy 1 at all! I usually use the octave or fifth up harmonies with a bit of delay for a really nice haunting, warbley sound, but this sounded really bad on the bass whammy! Keeping the Whammy 1 now and I'm not going to pick one of these up. Bit of a shame as this had me very excited :-(...
 17. This is great! Loved the Sadowsky, and that Stingray sounds beautiful to my ears! :-) Fodera sounds crap, just as I assumed it would. Really glad I'm not missing out on anything tone-wise there, cos I'm not a fan of basses that look like a piece of furniture...
 18. So after much saving I'm now in the market for a nice Pre-EB Stingray. I have two particular ones that I'm looking at, going for a similar price, but I'm just not sure what to go for! The first is a 1979, has had a good refret at some point but all original aside from that. 3-bolt neck and through-body stringing, but a bit beat up condition-wise! The other is a 1983, made in January and happens to be my year of birth bass! :-) This is all original aside from a brass nut, and in slightly better condition! This one has the 4-bolt neck and top-loading bridge. If you were looking, which would you be more interested in!?...
 19.
Ken yooo poste too Nigeria .?
I will wire you the monies!
 20. Thanks shemeckfrac! Also had a US Kramer-era NS-2 (which I recently traded for a Sandberg), and I always loved this one a little bit more. It just has that classic transparent grind that the good US NS basses have! It happens to be a total bargain too ...
 21. For sale is a Spector Euro 4 in natural flame maple finish. It has solid maple wings, gold hardware and has the original factory installed Aguilar OBP-1 preamp and active EMGs. I believe this is from 2001, and it's before Spector changed the body wood and the name to LX Condition-wise, the bass certainly has signs of wear, I've been playing it pretty solidly for 15 years! The gold bridge is worn, but this is only really visible close up. There are a few very minor dings on the bass, and there is some real wear above the neck pickup (this is where I've been anchoring my thumb for 15 years!). I recently gave it a very good clean with Warwick surface finisher wax however, and it looks great! Will include the surface finisher with the bass. It also needs attention in the following areas:

The bridge pickup control knob has the wrong size pot installed (long, rather than short split-shaft), so the control knob won't fit on! This will need to be replaced, it currently functions fine however!...
The Bass control (bottom control) is starting to feel like it may be on its way out, so will need replacing too
The bass could do with a set-up
I have taken all of this into consideration, hence the bargain price. It will cost VERY little to get these elements fixed! Looks and sounds amazing though - some say these are comparable to the US model because of the maple and Aguilar preamp. SOLD
 22. If I didn't have a special little Knightfall 66 already in the making I'd snap this up and flog my TFR! Bargain price for what's bound to be a remarkable dirt box, and one of Tom's proudest moments I believe! ... GLWTS Kev!
