1. Whoops! Late reply... In this specific case they do sound identical though, which is surely what matters? This is different to the Sovtek/green big muff case, for instance!
2. They sound exactly the same as well!! o_O I could understand if the Finnish ones were superior in some way, but considering the US ones are put together by Spencer (and we all know about 3Leaf's quality!), using better quality components, it makes absolutely no sense to me!...
3. Argh no! Timing eh!? It's a very awesome pedal, I just can't justify having so many rat clones when I'm so skint! I hope you enjoy yours, I know you will!
4. Catalinbread SFT - SOLD
5.
Email Tom and explain what you want, he is very good at working out what exactly you want. He patient and very knowledgable.
Seconded. He'll take your pedal dreams and turn them into reality, no electronics degree or jargon-interpreting skills necessary! ;-)
6.
Is the newer graphic one better?
I think it is, as it has improved top-end. The older graphic one still sounds great, but it sounds a little more like you've got a blanket over your speaker cabinet. If you're going for James Jamerson Ampeg B-15, go for the old graphic. If you're going for Timmy C raging SVT, then it's new graphic!...
7.
Oh! That's very mean of you... now i'm GASing for two pedals instead of just one!
Sorry!! You have a B3K already though, right? I'm pretty confident that the COG will cure your GAS!
8. I have the TFR, love it. If I didn't have it, I would buy the COG Grand Tarkin. Even better, contact Tom from COG and have him build you exactly what you want, and it'll still probably work out cheaper than importing a TFR or buying a Duality. Have to say though, TFR full-gain into the B3K at half-blend half-gain is still one of the most incredible bass dirt sounds I have ever heard. I want to have a little joyful cry every time I play through them! ...
9.
Catalinbread SFT.
This. The one with the newer graphic.
10. Look at the COG Grand Tarkin too, if you haven't already. That'll do what you need!
11. Just buy a TFR, and if you don't like it you can sell it on here for pretty much what you paid...I'm pretty confident you will like it though, and I guarantee you will NOT get lost in the mix with the mild mid-scoop and strong low mids it has. I've tried loads, but no-one's getting my TFR off me unless they prise it from my cold dead hands...
12. Yep, it's a custom order at the minute. Reckon Tom's introducing it to his stock range this year though! Another thing he put on mine is internal switches to alter the range of the filter control so you can get some really varied tones out of it, not just the aggressive cut of the original!
13. As far as I know the Knightfall is based on the (now impossible to find) Voodoo Lab Overdrive, relatively similar to the OCD I understand... Tom does a great rat clone though, the TK-421, which is what I have on my board at the minute. Mine has clean blend with a separate LPF (for the clean), and various clipping options including the amazing asymmetric LEDs! Get one, you know you should!...
14. Tom's currently knocking me up a slightly customised Knightfall 66! Can't wait, I want it NOW!
15. "No fancy delays" If only he knew, eh Gaz!?
16.
Depends on the rest of your band's sound ... you won't hear "a touch of" if you've a wall of distorted guitar amps next to you, but maybe you will if there is more air and dynamics. But sure, you probably will have to dial up more effect to be heard in a full mix compared to trying out an effect in the bedroom.
This is interesting actually, I think I slightly disagree. It's the touch of chorus/flange that propels me over the top of our two noisy guitarists in really heavy sections. Obviously people won't hear a "Come As You Are"-style heavy chorus going on, but the little touch definitely makes the sound more pronounced and therefore makes a difference!...
17. I reckon he uses the Aguilar Octamizer quite a lot. He's on the Aguilar site here! http://www.aguilaramp.com/artist_derrickhodge.htm
18. Fair call on the Moog, it is also MASSIVE! The static filter sounds great and is really useful though...Don't know about IE, but I've seen a couple of Xeros pop up on here and other forums.
19. The Moog LPF and Iron Ether Xerograph do this, if you take the Envelope right down you can move the Cutoff to the desired frequency. I often use this in songs with the verb, chorus and whammy, for those Boards of Canada moments! ;-)
20.
So you won't be wanting this then http://wrenandcuff.com/site/the-stompboxes/the-hangman-2d/
This sounds pretty good on bass actually, couldn't ever get the HM-2 I had to sound like that! But good lord, the price!...
21. Thanks for the replies guys. Ha, I know what you mean Gaz, the temptation's always there! I've tried the Joyo before actually and liked it, may pick one up. Slight concerns about build quality, but for that price why not! Actually going the other way now, and eyeing up the Wampler Triple Wreck! Anyone tried one on bass? It even sounds good on MrExcane's demo! ...
22. I've got such bad GAS for an OCD type pedal at the moment, but really can't decide whether I should go for it, and whether I really NEED one! I currently have the following in terms of dirt: Catalinbread SFT (newer graphic) Darkglass B3K Wren & Cuff Tall Font Russian COG Rat Tail/Fulltone Bassdrive clone Fuzzrocious Rat Tail Turbo Rat Is there anything that an OCD/Fuzzrocious Demon will do that none of those will cover!? I'm on the edge and so close to picking one up, I just need someone to push me over or pull me back! ... Al
23. Hartke Attack is more modelled on an amp preamp, not an active bass preamp, if that makes sense!?... Worth keeping an eye out for an Aguilar DB924 too (version before Tonehammer). Can be had within your budget, I've got one and I never leave home without it!
24. Yep, get an Aguilar Tonehammer or a Sadowsky outboard preamp. Performs exactly the same function as having an active onboard preamp, and you don't have to carve your bass up!
25.
They're all a very similar circuit, albeit with some component/architectural changes, and with the 66, some significant feature additions. I'm currently running my 66 with Germaniums in channel 1 and LEDs in channel 2, the OCD circuit, same as the DEMON, is traditional MOSFET clipping. As such, the answer is yes, the 66 can get OCD/DEMON-esque tones, but a lot more to boot! Si
Lovely stuff! I assume it can get pretty high gain as well? Have you been able to get anywhere near the scooped B3K-type tone from it as well at all? Tom's stuff's already on my board, but I'm looking to cover as many dirt tones with as few dirt boxes as possible! Thanks Si
