Post your pedal board - Basschat style!!
bakerster135 replied to dudewheresmybass's topic in Effects
The current board... Determined to stick with this now! Only outstanding change is that the Signor Gatto is going back to Tom for a clean blend/LPF addition, but following that I will (surely!?) have every dirt sound that I could ever need!... As much as I would love to have one overdrive/distortion pedal for every application, I just can't! I have one group where the B3K really works but nothing else, another where only the 'vintage' SFT and Darklighter sounds work. Of course the TFR works with everything! ;-) I've also managed to find THE Death From Above 1979 sound with the Whammy detune setting > TFR > B3K! :-) -
Bought Andy's TB Looper. Great comms, and I can't believe how quickly it got here!... Thanks Andy!

I'd say get a COG 66. Two selectable dirt channels in one pedal, all the clipping options you could ever need, optimised for bass and with a clean blend, fantastic value for money and from a brilliant uk maker. What else could you ask for!?...

Interesting signal issue/where could I put a buffer?...

Just dropped Mike at Catalinbread a line about the whole thing, so hopefully he'll confirm...Thanks for your help! -
Interesting signal issue/where could I put a buffer?...
bakerster135 replied to bakerster135's topic in Effects
Thanks Si, yep I mean when the SFT is bypassed. The whole thing just seems a little weaker, and that pedal appears to react strangely to the TFR and B3K before it... I actually like the Whammy 1's buffered bypass, not the greatest but still 100 times better than the one on the Whammy 4! Point is that it was all sounding lovely before, but now the addition of the SFT seems to have changed something and I can't work out what! I'll have a play around with order tonight, but just wanted to check whether anyone had ideas or had experienced anything similar before I start dismantling! Al -
Hi all, Little bit of advice sought, if anyone's had an issue like this before? Pedalboard pic is below, and current order is: Whammy > COG > TFR > B3K > SFT > MOOG LPF > Corona > El Capistan > TU-2 Basically, since putting the SFT in I seem to have a bit of signal degradation. The TFR sounds as though it's lost a bit of top end, and the B3K seems to sound a bit more glitchy than it did before. Also worth noting that the SFT and B3K DO NOT work well together and produce high feedback, although I never intended to use them this way anyway... So, would anyone know what could be happening here? I know the SFT inverts phase, but I wouldn't have assumed that this has anything to do with it? If I perhaps need a buffer I wouldn't be completely sure where to put it, and probably wouldn't want it before the dirt? If anyone can help with this, please let me know! Thanks, Al

For those of you who don't know what this is, it's essentially and "Ampeg in a box", recreating those lovely 70s Ampeg valve sounds. Pretty much new condition, comes with the box and little bag. Selling for what I bought it for including postage, so £75 inc P&P. Alternatively, if anyone wants to pick up in London, I'll do it for £70 collected! Bargain. Pictures below, and all info on the website here!
I didn't, never tried one but I've heard good things. They seem to hold their relatively high price though so I'm put off giving one a whirl.
They do hold their value well. I had the MOSFET one which was nice, but sold it when Tom (COG) made me a far superior clone. I'd say (as would many others on here!) that the Xotic BB does what the Bass Drive can do and loads more, and can be had for a lot less!
Fulltone Full Drive maybe?
You know the Fulltone Bass Drive is actually just a Full Drive, tweaked to handle bass frequencies? The earliest BDs even came in a FD case, with "bass" crudely stuck over the "full"!...
-
And of course Tom COG's Darklighter Overdrive! Also the Rodenberg dirt.

Ha ha! Is this an Adult Swim series? It looks like it!

Soooooo... Anyone using the Fractal AxeFX for bass then?
bakerster135 replied to Dood's topic in Effects
Same with Meshuggah, they all just use the Fractal stuff live and don't even have amps on stage. -
I have to say I'm interested in the business setup. Is Doug at Darkglass an electronics engineer? or is he the ideas/vision and the money? I seem to remember he has a 'partner' who is the electronics guy? (Nothing wrong with that, its how EHX started). Maybe the partner isn't on the scene anymore and Spencer has taken on the role. All speculation on my behalf of course Great pedals from both parties though. Si
Si, there's a good explanation here! There's also this vid of Doug making one of the Finnish B3Ks at high-speed(!), but seems the move was due to costing, and Doug wanting to focus on the designs rather than having to deal with the demand and put all of them together! There's also this vid of Spencer explaining why the USA B3Ks he's constructing are better!... Sorry for the video overload! Al

Arrgh, I wish they would stop releasing such lovely stuff! The "Duality" idea sounds great, I look forward to hearing audio examples of the variation it provides. BassEFX are currently doing pre-orders for $249.00 USD.
There is very little distortion on the first album - it's mostly a Stingray played clean.
This is not really correct, he used his Marshall Guv'nor under pretty much every big guitar riff on the album (for example, here at 0:41). In fact, you get the first taste of it early on when the Bombtrack riff comes in at 0:25! I think you'll find that most of the power comes from Timmy's overdriven bass during the riffs on that album, Tom Morrello's guitar is pretty trebly and relatively clean in comparison!
