The Power Bass Special looks uber cool in standard form IMO... 🙂

I think this vid also shows Hutchings with an RM1999 (scroll to around 5m 30s)

Good to hear from a fellow BB tr nut DIYer, seems that we're a rare breed 😄
-
Having contacted Yamaha (part no longer available) and spoken to a couple of well known guitar repair shops it seems that the old BB TR nut is officially extinct and there's nothing equivalent that can be used as a replacement (most modern metric TRs have an M5 thread). So it was DIY time. I found some 10mm long brass M6 connector bolts on ebay. Only available from China but I ordered them and they arrived 3 weeks later. As standard, these need a 10mm wrench which is much too big for the TR recess on the bass so I filed the flats down to fit an 8mm wrench. Et voila! I have a couple of spare M6 bolts so if anyone else needs to do the same just get in touch. You'll have to do your own filing though!

100W Stoneham valve amp - small footprint, lighter weight
ikay replied to Merton's topic in Amps and Cabs
Will the Stoneham 100 be available to buy this year does anyone know? -
The TR nut on my old BB300 has seen better days (pics below) and needs replacing but it's an old style one (the type that's adjusted with an 8mm box spanner) and I'm having a devil of a job finding something that will fit. It's basically an M6 flanged nut (10mm long, M6 internal thread size, 8mm across the hex flats). I've tried various component suppliers such as Accu but the M6 flanged nuts they do are much shorter in length (5mm) and wider across the hex flats (10mm), which won't work. Can anyone help with ideas on where to find an equivalent nut that will do the job? Or if you have one lurking in your parts box please drop me a pm!

It sounds like a grounding issue. Have you checked that the shielding itself is connected to a ground wire (ie. a wire that ultimately connects to the ground terminal of the jack socket)?

John East AC Guitars EQ02 - *SOLD*

I used to have a two pickup version of the EQ01 which had an LPF for each pickup. The signals were then blended after the filters (ie. you could have different filter settings for each pickup). This one appears to have inputs for two pickups which are then blended before going through a single LPF. This is a simpler configuration and arguably more practical in terms of usability. There were so many sound combinations with two filters it frankly blew my mind! -
Pretty much! With the P pickup you can drop the 'A' pole which should help. Playing around with string gauges can also help to even things out a bit (eg. a lighter gauge for the A string)

I'm having a clearout and found several old ICs from the 1980s in my parts box. 24-pin controller chip from a Roland Jupiter-6 synth 14-pin CD4006CN 14-pin CD4016CN 14-pin CD4030CN 14-pin CD4016AE 14-pin CA3280E May possibly be of use to someone who does DIY electronic projects. Free to anyone who wants them, just drop me a message.

Squier MIJ Silver Series P - tuner hole diameter

I also have a bass which weights 10lbs. I like a bit of variety 😄 -
Squier MIJ Silver Series P - tuner hole diameter
ikay replied to ikay's topic in Repairs and Technical
Nothing wrong with the tuners. The bass is a very comfortable 8lbs 3oz and ever so slightly neck heavy. Nothing a grippier strap won't sort to be honest but I quite like the idea of a sub 8lb bass! Thanks! The bushing hole is 15mm for anyone else who would like to know. -
I'm thinking of putting some lightweight tuners on my Silver Series P (pic below). Before I start dismantling things, does anyone happen to know the diameter of the hole in the headstock and whether the bushing is rebated or just sits in the top of a 'straight through' hole? The bushings are quite compact with in inside diameter of 12.2mm and outside diameter of 18mm. I'm guessing the hole is somewhere between 14mm and 16mm, which narrows down the replacement options somewhat (I don't think there's an exact drop-in replacement), but it would be good to know for sure before I start messing around. I know that changing tuners isn't always as easy as it might seem! Thanks for any input.
