1. I know nothing about bows but found this article interesting - http://stringsmagazine.com/a-guide-to-buying-a-bow/
2. Thanks Dave, hmm I'll give that option some thought but to be honest would prefer a finished neck. Drilling the tuner holes might exceed my woodworking skills! Ian
3. Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I'd be interested to know as well. Apart from Warmoth, are there any other aftermarket suppliers of 32" necks or is a custom job the only way?
4. BestBassGear - http://www.bestbassgear.com/emg-pickup-cable-solderless-9-inch-long.htm I think they ship to the UK.
5. That's very light for a fiver! OK thanks, will give it some more thought. Where are you located?
6. This thread is to do with replacing a blend pot in a BBNE1 - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/268623-yamaha-bbne1-schematic/. Might be worth contacting the OP to see if they can advise on where to get the correct replacement from. If not, the Yamaha support will usually be able to get the part for you - https://uk.yamaha.com/en/support/.
7. Lots of hum-cancelling J pickups out there to choose from - Seymour Duncan, Nordstrand, Fralin and others. I've got SD Area Js in my JB-62M and they sound very close to vintage single coils. Adding shielding to the pickup and control cavities can help to reduce hum (I use graphite paint which is easier to apply than copper foil). Preamp may add hiss but unlikely to add hum unless something is wrong with it (eg. a grounding issue).

G&L Kiloton
it's like a version of an MM Sterling ... and the pick up's in exactly the right position from what I can see
The pickup position on the Kiloton looks to be exactly the same as the L1500 which is 1cm closer to the bridge than a Stingray/Sterling. I guess Leo slightly adjusted his view of the 'sweetspot' during the G&L days.

G&L Kiloton
The SB shape and resulting lighter weight should be a big +
Ah OK, I'd missed the bit about the SB body
10. Yamaha TRB5P is 23 5/8" according to here - http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Yamaha_TRB_5P.html. My early series TRB5 also has a similarly flat radius.

G&L Kiloton
I love the passive sounds from my L1500 and can hear the same here.
Apart from the addition of a single coil mode and the passive tone control, how does the Kiloton differ from an L1500 in passive mode? The pickup looks to be in exactly the same position so surely it's pretty much an L1500 without a preamp. Is it really different enough to be a new model or just a slick bit of marketing? Having said that, I love how it sounds and want one!
12. Aha, thanks that worked. It certainly has the Pino sound, lovely playing
13. With such specific requirements how about custom build (eg. Maruszczyk) and get exactly what you want?
14. What program do I need to run the demo file? I'm using Windows 7 and it doesn't recognize the file type.
15. Is the red finish soiid or translucent, showing the underlying wood grain?
16.
Asking myself if the classic position for P pup would it be possible....any advice ?
You should be able to add a P in same position as the USA Urge but that's much closer to the bridge than on a standard P. 17. Hi Dave, on the Fishman website, under powerchip features it says 'Fishman-designed piezo volume control'. I'm pretty sure the Fishman vol is for piezo only. The circuit allows both signals to be mixed but the mag vol is before the circuit and functions independently to the piezo vol.
18. Ah, I didn't realise that all double cuts had the resonating harp thingy. Maybe only the very early ones had an access panel
19. Thanks. Some of the early ones have a panel on the back like the pic below. In the body cavity there are a number of 'tines' that vibrate sympathetically when the bass is played and give it a more resonant acoustic sound.
20. Is this old style Acoustibass with double cutaway and the vibrating tines behind the bridge?
21. Just sold my SKB shallow rack unit to Gary. Seamless transaction and a pleasure to deal with. Good to meet you Gary, hope it does the job. Cheers!
