1. If it's all working fine I can't think what a tech would be able to check or service in a solid-state amp. I have a 30 year old GK 200MB which I don't think has seen a tech in all that time and is still going strong. I'm sure someone with more technical know-how will chip in!
2. Rather unimaginatively I also have a Squier PB-331 and a JB-32M. I must try harder. These are great little basses and super comfortable to play. Here's a pic of the JB-62M with its (almost) matching Lakland big brother. And here's the Squier (also from Paul S)
3.
is it possible that the tone will alter (or bleed) across the entire frequency range, thus rather than above 1-5, I would get 3-5?
I'm not sure I'm reading this correctly, but with the new Delano do you feel that the lows don't feel as robust when you roll the tone off (ie. you're losing freq 1-2)?
4. Very lovely indeed, I keep coming back to look at that fretless .... GLWTS
5. I've just come across this Stambaugh Resonance on BassDirect's website, does anyone have any experience of Stambaugh basses and this model in particular? - http://bassdirect.co...nance_5_FL.html
6. May be worth contacting a company like Tappex who specialise in threaded inserts, see if they can help or steer you in the right direction - https://www.tappex.co.uk/
7. Can you post some sound clips? How does the sound compare with your Thumb bolt-on or a regular Streamer P/J?
8. Er no idea! In the circuit below (USA active Jazz) the active/passive switch completely bypasses the eq when switched to passive. I'm not sure if this is the same circuit as in your bass, it could be an earlier version. 9. I'm not sure you'll get a meaningful consensus to a question like this - lots of opinions maybe, which may or may not match your own iwhen you try them for yourself! For what it's worth, my basses have radii (?) ranging from vintage 7.25" through 10", 16" and 20" to completely flat (ACG, Prose). The ACG also has an assymetric neck profile. When I bought the ACG there were definitely a few converts out there who swore by the flat board and assym neck profile. I love my ACG but I've not been converted as such. I feel equally at home on my other regular necks. A mild annoyance with smaller radius necks is sometimes a bit of string imbalance with flat pole pickups (G and E being closer to the poles). Smaller radius also requires more fiddling to get a low action, particularly on a tapered jazz type neck (P type generally not a prob). It's easier IMO to set up a flat board with low action and even string balance. It's also easier to do DIY maintenance such as fret/fingerboard levelling. Not that I do a lot of that (although I have done some). I can take or leave assymetric back-of-neck profiles. If pushed, I think I prefer a regular shallow C type profile. Maybe I'm just old fashioned. Having said that, my '57 P has the deepest V neck profile you could imagine and I love it to bits. As with all this stuff, in the end it's largely down to personal foibles and preference!
10. A pic is worth a thousand words ... Assuming it's a BB P/J type with a three way switch, the pic below may help you to get it back to its original state.
11. I can entirely see what you mean about those terminals being a bit fiddly Dan. I almost got one of these a few months ago but was put off by the weird configuration and went for a regular one instead. Much easier and it also makes sense when you look at it which helps - unlike this one!
12. Ha, I only just realised the OP is you Dan - hope all is well! And yes I'm still enjoying my lovely old '57
13. Just replicate your DPDT wiring using the corresponding CTS terminals as in the pic below. This should do the job, (with 'up' for series) .
14. Thanks for the very helpful replies. It's an unusual set up but sounds like it works!
15. Can you please explain the controls a bit more. Does the sweepable mid control, have a variable boost/cut or do you just select the frequency and then use the switch for a fixed +/- 15dB? What does the other tone control do, is it a passive tone roll off or a bass boost/cut? Thanks
16. Where are you located and what's the exact weight of this one please?
17.
Bloody hell that was the inspiration for mine haha! I will try to do some clips tomorrow. My playing is bloody appalling mind haha
Haha, excellent! Nothing fancy required with the clips, I'd just like to hear the range of tones from bridge only to neck only and some points in between where the active blend should allow a bit more control than a passive blend. Would be good to hear the B string on the clips as well. Cheers
18. Can you provide any sound clips? I'd be interested to hear the sweep from bridge to neck pickup with the active blend, particularly with the bridge pup being quite a bit closer to the bridge than a regular J. I have a lovely Recurve 5 fretless with a myrtle top (http://www.acguitars...tring-fretless/), yours is sort of calling out to be its fretted stable mate!
19. Have a chat with John East. He's very helpful and should be able to sort you out, particularly as it's to go with your East preamp setup (he supplied a stacked vol/blend with my SPM-02 modules).
20. Pickup position is a significant factor as well. Have a play with this app and test a few positions and multiple pickup combinations etc. Switch on the 'fundamental frequency marker' as a reference point. 21. Where are you located and what is the weight please?
