CTS Push Pull Pot for Series Parallel - HELP!
ikay replied to Chiliwailer's topic in Repairs and Technical
Just replicate your DPDT wiring using the corresponding CTS terminals as in the pic below. This should do the job, (with 'up' for series) . -
Bloody hell that was the inspiration for mine haha! I will try to do some clips tomorrow. My playing is bloody appalling mind haha
Haha, excellent! Nothing fancy required with the clips, I'd just like to hear the range of tones from bridge only to neck only and some points in between where the active blend should allow a bit more control than a passive blend. Would be good to hear the B string on the clips as well. Cheers
-
Can you provide any sound clips? I'd be interested to hear the sweep from bridge to neck pickup with the active blend, particularly with the bridge pup being quite a bit closer to the bridge than a regular J. I have a lovely Recurve 5 fretless with a myrtle top (http://www.acguitars...tring-fretless/), yours is sort of calling out to be its fretted stable mate!

Have a chat with John East. He's very helpful and should be able to sort you out, particularly as it's to go with your East preamp setup (he supplied a stacked vol/blend with my SPM-02 modules).

Pickup position is a significant factor as well. Have a play with this app and test a few positions and multiple pickup combinations etc. Switch on the 'fundamental frequency marker' as a reference point. I think the series I TRB GCYPbass details above is a TRB 'P' (with piezo). The regular TRB I was 34" and had soapbars like the series II but had a shallow 'slap' contour on the body and a different preamp with a 3-position mid control (adjustable using internal presets) rather than a sweepable mid boost/cut. I've had my trusty series I TRB5 for 16 years now. Have had many other basses in between but keep coming back to it. Great basses.

Thanks, I just emailed them to enquire and will report back. I rather like the 'natural' model from Rondo and have asked if they can get hold of that - http://www.rondomusic.com/product7692.html
Harley Benton Fretless Violin bass. What more could you want?
That should do it! Thanks granger, I had no idea these existed

I love the idea of a fretless violin bass. Can you only get these from Rondo Music in the USA or is there a UK distributor?

The perfect Jazz/MM tone in one instrument.is there such a bass.?

Here's a scale drawing showing the relative positions of P, J and SR pickups. The lines shown represent the centreline through the pole pieces in each case.
Got a ray you can measure centre of pickup to 12th fret so I can check?
From 12th fret to centreline of Ray pup is 344mm, from nut is 776mm (+432mm). Measurement to neck coil is 332mm and bridge coil is 356mm. This is for an SR5 but SR4 should be the same. Centreline of a 60s J bridge pup is 367mm from 12th fret. -

The Stingray in the pic above isn't quite to scale. When it is the bridge coil of the MM is about 10mm closer to the neck than the J 60s bridge position. I have a spreadsheet of pickup positions for various basses (something I did for input to build/mod projects). All measured from the 12th fret which is a good fixed point for comparison. I can't seem to attach it here but if anyone wants a copy just drop me a pm with your email. -

A Stingray HS also doesn't quite do the Jazz thing. The S pickup is noticeably closer to the neck than a J and the bridge coil of the MM (for a coil split) is slightly north of a 60s J.
