1. This thread may be of interest - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/166853-emg-btc-control-are-you-experienced/
2. The last page of this Aguilar wiring diagram shows how to add a passive tone control in front of the preamp - http://aguilaramp.com/pdf/support_wiring_obp1.pdf It's just a standard tone control (typically a 250k pot and .47 cap) wired in front of the preamp. You should be able to do the same with a Bartolini preamp. Actual wiring needed will depend on how many pickups and how the existing volume/blend pots are wired. Instead of a full size tone pot just use a small preset pot inside the cavity.
3. What's the exact weight please and where are you located?
4. Just bought some DB strings from Alex. Great to deal with, easy transaction and super quick delivery. Many thanks!
5. Very wierd indeed. Can you post a video?
6. Looking at pic #5, from the reflection of the strings on the pickup cover, the pickup looks too high to me. As EssentialTension says it's normal practice to set your action and intonation first and then set the pickup height. Try lowering the pickup (both sides/all screws) until it's clearly not interfering with anything (ie. a bit too low). Then do a basic setup - neck relief, saddle height, intonation - to get it playing as you like it. Lastly, adjust the pickup in small increments to get an even output across the strings. Start with the E string side and make sure the pickup is set below the point at which the string hits the pole pieces when playing normally. Then adjust the other screws to balance output with the E string. Remember that any recommended settings you find for pickup height/string clearance (eg. Fender setup guide says 2.8mm on E side and 2mm on G side) are measured from the bottom of the string to the top of the pole piece while fretting the string at the last fret. The unfretted string clearance is much greater. Pickups don't necessarily need to be maxed as close to the string as possible to get good tone, winding them down a bit can open up the tone and give a more even string balance.
7. If a string is 'phasing' that's an indicator that it's too close to the pickup. Can you post some pics showing the existing setup (string height and pickup height) on both the E and G side?
8. Ripping out the existing innards and replacing with a custom foam insert is probably the easiest way to do this. You could get an idea of cost by getting a quote from here - http://www.cutfoam.co.uk/case-inserts.html. Google 'custom foam case inserts' to find other suppliers
9. Dimensions here: Ultralites - http://hipshotproducts.com/files/all/ultralites.pdf GB720s - http://shop.sollerguitars.com/product_info.php/products_id/2267gb-720-l-cbk.html/language/en/gb-720-l-cbk.html
10. Jeez that spaghetti of wiring is shocking!
11. Can you post a pic showing the loose wire? The attached pic may help
12. Part of an (expensive!) experiment to try out various DB strings starting with the Innovation catalogue. These pair up well with a Silver Slap G and D. String gauge is the same as the Slaps (A-108, E-128) but medium tension (still very comfortable) and a little more definition. These were on my bass for about 3 weeks. Selling to help fund a set of Evah Weichs! Cost of both strings from Strings Direct was £58. Price includes UK delivery
13.
Looks a similar shape to the tuners on my squier cv60s p bass anyone know if itd fit?
See this thread on TB (the post with pics from Jayhawk ahout 3/4 down the page) - https://www.talkbass.com/threads/squier-cv-60-precision-mods.1168504/ The main difference is the shorter tuning key shaft. I was going to get one for my Matt Freeman but OCD would then have demanded replacement of the other three tuners (as this chap did)
14. Re the Musicman FAQ on setting pickup height below: "If you have a single pickup bass set the pickup height to 6/32" from the plastic pickup cover to the bottom of the G string. Adjust the bass side of the pickup to be level with the pickguard." Are they seriously saying to set it as indicated by the red line in the attached pic? Looks a bit extreme to me!
15. What does the pot control and is the centre detent really needed? If the detent is just at the half rotation point you could mark this point and use any 500k audio pot. That might be one option for a quick and easy interim fix
16. Too old - never! I'm in my 60s and twice the age of everyone else in my vintage band. Admittedly I've never told them my age but I think they know I'm old enough to be their dad I help to reinforce the vintage image by wearing an old cardigan and slippers ...
17. This is the same paper that I have, well worth a read for anyone interested in the subject
18. PM me with your email an I'll send you an interesting technical paper explaining dead spots
19. Thanks Phil
20. Thanks, that's a nice weight for one of these, particularly for a fiver...
21. Hmm this is a bit weird, I'm not the only one either! - https://www.talkbass...pacing.1029797/ Although there are plenty of other posts on TB that say the holes line up exactly! Best advice the OP is probably to check measurements on the bass he's thinking of buying
