1. Can you post a pic showing the loose wire? The attached pic may help
2. Part of an (expensive!) experiment to try out various DB strings starting with the Innovation catalogue. These pair up well with a Silver Slap G and D. String gauge is the same as the Slaps (A-108, E-128) but medium tension (still very comfortable) and a little more definition. These were on my bass for about 3 weeks. Selling to help fund a set of Evah Weichs! Cost of both strings from Strings Direct was £58. Price includes UK delivery
3.
Looks a similar shape to the tuners on my squier cv60s p bass anyone know if itd fit?
See this thread on TB (the post with pics from Jayhawk ahout 3/4 down the page) - https://www.talkbass.com/threads/squier-cv-60-precision-mods.1168504/ The main difference is the shorter tuning key shaft. I was going to get one for my Matt Freeman but OCD would then have demanded replacement of the other three tuners (as this chap did)
4. Re the Musicman FAQ on setting pickup height below: "If you have a single pickup bass set the pickup height to 6/32" from the plastic pickup cover to the bottom of the G string. Adjust the bass side of the pickup to be level with the pickguard." Are they seriously saying to set it as indicated by the red line in the attached pic? Looks a bit extreme to me!
5. What does the pot control and is the centre detent really needed? If the detent is just at the half rotation point you could mark this point and use any 500k audio pot. That might be one option for a quick and easy interim fix
6. Too old - never! I'm in my 60s and twice the age of everyone else in my vintage band. Admittedly I've never told them my age but I think they know I'm old enough to be their dad I help to reinforce the vintage image by wearing an old cardigan and slippers ...
7. This is the same paper that I have, well worth a read for anyone interested in the subject
8. PM me with your email an I'll send you an interesting technical paper explaining dead spots
9. Thanks, that's a nice weight for one of these, particularly for a fiver...
10. Hmm this is a bit weird, I'm not the only one either! - https://www.talkbass...pacing.1029797/ Although there are plenty of other posts on TB that say the holes line up exactly! Best advice the OP is probably to check measurements on the bass he's thinking of buying
11. The bridge in the pic with brass saddles is the same as mine and clearly wider than the BBOT. I can only assume you succeeded in screwing the BBOT into the same holes as the basswood is so soft! It didn't work for me, but I wasn't happy with the 2.5mm displacement each end so didn't try and force it. It clearly is possible as you've done it! Here are a couple of pics showing the outer hole measurements - 75mm for the Squier bridge and 70mm for the standard 19mm spacing Wilkinson.
12. Hmm, that's interesting. The hi mass bridge with brass saddles on my Squier Matt Freeman (which I thought was the same as a CV 60) definitely isn't interchangeable with a BBOT. I know because I tried! The centres of the two outer holes are 75mm apart compared with 70mm for a BBOT. You could just about squeeze screws into the inner two holes which are about 1mm out but the outers would definitely need drilling. Maybe the CV 60 has a different bridge with 19mm spacing instead of 20mm?
13. Thomann are selling them for £146.70 plus postage - http://www.thomann.de/gb/pirastro_evah_pirazzi_kontrabass_weich.htm. The description doesn't actually say Weich but the packaging in the second pic does. Is this the best price or can anyone suggest anywhere else to buy these from? Or if anyone has a used set please pm me (fat chance haha!)
14.
...I've been slanting it slightly towards the fretboard (so front to back, not top to bottom) so it follows the line of the strings
I know what you mean but to be honest I don't think it makes a lot of difference either way. I have mine set up parallel to the body which I guess means there's a slight bias towards the neck coil, more so as you fret up the fingerboard. The SR pickup is pretty aggressive anyway so that set up works for me. There is no right or wrong though, do whatever sounds right to you.
15. Just wondered if you'd found your scales yet? An accurate weight would be helpful ...
16. The CV 60s hi mass bridge has 20mm string spacing and different mounting holes to a standard BBOT. The screws holes are slightly wider apart and would need to be filled and redrilled. It's very annoying, I don't know why they did this.
17. What's the exact weight of the L1000 please?
18. http://www.simscustom.com/html/00pickguards.htm http://www.jacksinstrumentservices.com/custom-scratchplate-cutting.html http://www.originalscratchplates.com/ - laser cut (not cnc), can only supply straight edge plates (not bevelled)
19. Ah ok thanks. I know there was an MIJ 'Squier Series' Strat made in the 90s with a similar black Fender logo (pic below) but don't know whether there were similar Js and Ps in that period.
20. What is the exact weight of both basses please?
