1. If it's a dual action trussrod then it should just pull out and be fairly easy to replace, But if it's a standard rod (which it looks like) it will be anchored at the headstock end and replacement is a major job. One option would be to cut a recess in the neck heel as in the pic below. This might give the spoke wheel some fresh threads to grip.
2. Definitely a zero fret if you zoom in. Maybe it's been defretted? Either way an adjustable nut is a bit pointless with a zero fret (or vice versa)
3. Can you describe the sound from the 'dead' notes or post some clips? For example, is the fundamental note missing (or weak) but some of the higher harmonics still present? This is a common symptom of a dead spot where the resonant frequency of the neck at that exact spot happens to coincide with the fretted note - this sucks the life out of the fundamental but leaves some of the higher harmonics intact. Or is the note full bodied but just lacks sustain? The fact that increasing the effective mass of the headstock doesn't improve matters suggests it's something other than a dead spot.
4. Did it work before? If you turn the neck vol full up and then slowly turn up the bridge pickup does the overall vol progressively reduce to zero? If it does then it sounds like the hot wire from the bridge pickup is being shorted to earth somewhere. If you have a multimeter that should be pretty easy to trace. Posting a few pics of the wiring might also help.
5. Thanks Sam, very nice bass
6. Thanks for pics. A couple more questions: - what is the neck finish (or is it an unfinished Allparts neck)? - is the truss rod adjustment a hex nut or a vintage style cross-slot nut?
7. A few questions: - is it a P or J profile neck? - what is neck width at nut? - does the neck have steel or graphite reinforcement rods? - what does the bass weigh? Thanks
8. What tuners were fitted to this? Can you please add a pic showing the back of the headstock. Thanks
9. Not sure what sort of projector your using but this site sells 6" and 3" oil wheels - http://www.optifanatics.com/Browse.aspx?id=22
10. If you manage to test this it would be great to hear some sound clips. Particularly the multiple series switching options as I've not seen these offered on any other stock bass.
11. Similar thread from a couple of months ago - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/247993-medium-scale-gas/page__p__2593939__hl__medium%20scale__fromsearch__1#entry2593939
12. Here's a rather unique Legacy Elite 5 fretless. An unusual single pickup version built in 1988 for a well known UK pro player and used on many sessions and albums. Flamed koa top over poplar body. EQ has been professionally replaced with a Stingray 3-band (original pro owner prefers the SR frequency centres to the stock Zon eq). Sings like a bird. A bit too much for me to be honest, I'm more of a plunker! Will be putting it up for sale shortly. I feel more at home on an old P or J these days (getting old!) 13. Is there a separate sale thread for the JO4? Would be good to see few more pics of this one. What does it weigh and what's the asking price? Thanks
14. Here's another schematic for the Enfield Super 8 pickup - http://www.enfieldguitars.com/Enfield%20instructions%20page1.pdf Not tried one myself so can't comment but I'm sure there's a pretty wide spectrum of sounds on tap with all those different coil combinations. All the switching options shown here are also parallel. I'm not sure why they don't offer series switching options as well. I've tried Stingray HH and HS models but actually much prefer the single H config. The other coil combinations sounded different but, to my ears, the single H setting still sounded best. More direct and punchy than the other coil combinations, some of which were a bit too scooped and polite for my liking. Who wants a 'polite' Stingray? Enough people to carry on making them I guess! What do I know
15. The Babicz is another drop in replacement worth considering. It achieves much better coupling with the body without adding mass (it's about the same weight as a BBOT). http://www.babiczguitars.com/full-contact-hardware.htm

Luke just bought an MXR M288 octave pedal from me. Very straightforward transaction, good comms and immediate payment. Pleasure to do business with. Cheers Luke
17. Stradi Symphony? - http://guitarz.blogs...g-fretless.html Or one of these other Stradi models: - http://www.stradi.pl/nature_eng.html - http://www.stradi.pl/excellence_eng.html
18. Babicz FCH4 also fits with no mods
19. What is the exact weight of the unloaded body please? Any other collateral damage from the blowtorching incident other than the melted neck pup casing, in particular any scorching of the neck?
20. The zero fret may be the same height as other frets or a little higher. Depends on the manufacturer and how well the neck tolerates a low setup. Using the same size fret wire will often give a slightly lower open string action than a traditionally cut nut. This can cause a bit of open string buzz if the neck is very straight (ie. minimal relief). Using a slightly larger fret wire for the zero fret gets round that. The zero fret on my Hofner is slightly bigger than the others for example.
21. What is the exact weight please?
22. Zero radius feels completely natural on my ACG. What that means is I don't really notice it, it just works and feels right. I also find a 7.25 radius feel right on my old Fenders so not sure that zero radius is 'better' as such, it's just another take on the multitude of neck profiles out there. Zero radius is easy to set up though and does allow for a low action.
23. No, a higher nut doesn't have the same effect as you are saying, you will still need the same amount of neck relief. Think of it this way - a higher nut effectively gives you a lot of relief behind the point that you are fretting (which just makes lower notes harder to fret). It makes no difference at all to the height of the vibrating part of the string which has been 'anchored at that fret and still needs the same amount of neck relief to play without buzzing.
24. Thanks, I just noticed the change in colour near the headstock which must be where it changes from a lacquer finish to the oil finish. Weight would be good to know if you can add that. Very lovely bass indeed
25. Has the back of the neck been sanded?
