I've got some figures for these at home as I've owned most types and made a point of weighing them all - I'll let you know the details when I get home
Can you post weights for as many types as you have details for - be useful to have for future reference. Cheers

Here are a couple of posts that may help: http://badassbassplayers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=15882 - "I've contacted Hipshot. It looks like HB2 are ~22g lighter (each) than Schaller BMFL" http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f57/tuning-peg-weight-155613/ - Schaller BMFL weighs 110g (second post down) Which puts the HB2 at 88g or thereabouts.
Hmm you have exactly what I have.................. I must be doing it wrong
I'm sure mixing a piezo with a two pup jazz config rather than a single HB/SC will give different results. Different types of pups and piezos will also give varying results. Are you using Graphtech piezo saddles?

I have the East piezo/mag pre (MPM-01) in my ACG fretless with piezo bridge and mag pickup. Excellent bit of kit and very flexible for configuring all sorts of mag/piezo configurations. In my case both the mag and piezo are buffered through the MPM-01 which allows for a very smooth and progressive blend between the two. Personally I get a lot of mileage out of blending the mag and piezo. Adding a bit of piezo to the mag opens up the sound and adds sweetness to the top end. Adding a bit of mag to the piezo progressively adds a bit more bite and focus. Lots of sweet spots for different situations on tap from a very full and open acoustic sound at one end to punchy and authoritative at the other.

This vid is fairly conclusive evidence that the bass itself has at least something to do with it - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFjA0cshhvc
Is there any point when the nodes move every time you fret a string in a different place?
Agree that it's a constantly moving target but it's still interesting to understand the fundamental tonal differences between various pickup positions. Part of the point of the post (it was mine) was also to demonstrate how the nodes shift and harmonic content changes when fretting notes (see second graphic).

Can you provide an accurate weight please? What is the hardware (bridge and tuners)? Is the J-Retro a 'flat response' version or the 'regular' version (which colours the sound even when the eq controls are set flat)? Does the neck have steel or graphite reinforcement? Is it a one-piece neck or is the fingerboard slab a separate piece of ebony? Is the truss rod adjuster at the heel end and a hex nut or a cross/flathead screw type? Sorry for so many questions. Thanks

Great job, I may follow your example! Would love to hear some sound clips if you can
You could put a preset pot inside the control cavity to reduce the offending pickup and balance the two
Here's a wiring diagram showing a 1 Meg internal trimpot to balance P-J pickup outputs. In this case the trimpot is on the P pickup but same technique would apply to trimming the J.

Any opinions on moving Musicman necks ?
ikay replied to Wayne Firefly's topic in Repairs and Technical
Moses do a graphite neck for a Sterling - http://mosesgraphite.com/productpages/mm-144-music-man-gl-4/. Have no experience of Moses necks myself -
I'm sure you've already tried lowering the bridge pup and/or raising the P? If you can't get a decent balance by doing that then maybe it's the P that has weak output rather than the J being too hot.
Did you buy direct from USA?
Mine came already fitted on my ACG. I added the East buffer as part of a preamp mod. Applestone Music are a UK Graphtec supplier. They don't show the bass saddles on their website but may be able to order them in. Graphtec Ghost piezo systems are very good. Available as piezo loaded saddles to retrofit in a standard P/J bridge or as a fully loaded Hipshot 'A' style bridge assembly (I have the Hipshot bridge version). Needs a buffer/preamp to get the full range from the piezos (I use a John East MPM-01). I've also tried the Graphtech Acoustiphonic preamp but prefer the East. The outputs from the individual saddles are simply summed into the buffer. No individual level controls for each string but the output is very even across the strings (on mine anyway). http://www.graphtech.com/products/brands/ghost/ghost-pickups---bass http://www.bestbassgear.com/hipshot-piezo-style-bass-bridges.htm.

Have you contacted Fender customer support in the UK? Be interesting to see what they have to say - http://www.fender.com/en-GB/contact/
I usually leave the "sweepable" element roughly in the middle, because it sounds nice and to be honest it doesn't seem to make much of a difference.
Very surprised that sweeping the mid freq doesn't seem to make much difference - is it working properly?! I use the sweepable mid on my East SPM-02 for tuning into the sweetspot for boosting mids on my fretless. Very useful and effective feature in that respect. The SPM also has internal sweepable frequency adjustment for bass and treble. Also very useful.

'Clicking' sound along D string (it's not fret buzz!)
ikay replied to Osiris's topic in Repairs and Technical
You've probably already tested and dismissed this but something I've come across before when playing fingerstyle on basses with a pretty low action is an annoying click when your plucking finger comes to rest on the string below. Caused by the string below the one your plucking being clacked against the frets. Took me a while to work out what it was when I first experienced it. Another suggestion anyway!
