Gareth, this page suggets the metric M3 is the correct saddle screw for an import Strat. I don't know whether the screws are the same on an import P but it's probably a good pointer.

If the trussrod is maxed one suggestion that often comes up is to remove the adjusting nut and add a suitably sized washer(s). This should provide a few more turns of neck straightening adjustment. Stewmac also offer a truss rod rescue kit which might be worth looking at - http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tools/Special_tools_for_Truss_rods/Truss_Rod_Rescue_Kit.html

Here's another link from BC - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/119957-wood-filler-for-neck-screw-holes

Filling the old holes with wooden dowel rod of a suitable diameter seems to be the recommended method http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=545881

Most balanced strings in feel and sound
ikay replied to sockdeluxe_mikey's topic in Accessories and Misc
If the D and G strings are quiet then what you need is more mass in those strings or less mass in the E and A strings.
+1 if you haven't done so already it might be worth trying something like Ernie Ball Slinkies which have a slightly heavier G and D string (eg 50/70/85/105 or 45/65/80/100). Or buy a couple of sets with different gauges and mix and match your own hybrid set. -
Switching necks Fretless Rosewood to Fretless Ebony
ikay replied to bassatnight's topic in Bass Guitars
It can certainly be done - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/57742-sold-musicman-stingray-5-fretless-ebony-board This one was done by John Diggins (Jaydee guitars) -
I had really great service from a chap at Proel last year who sent me a circuit diagram and instructions on how to change the effects loop of my LMIII from parallel to series. It may be worth dropping him a line and asking if he can give you an update on the status of your amp repair ("]).

And also sold Anth an EMG pickup, another quick and friendly deal. Thanks again!

Saddle height screws for a MIJ late 80s P bass
ikay replied to franzbassist's topic in Repairs and Technical
I've used Stig Fasteners in the past for replacement saddle screws but you need to know the thread specs: http://www.a2stainless.co.uk/Socket-Setscrews-Grub-Screws_B22S2C.aspx -
Just sold a set of strings to Anth. Easy and pleasant transaction, many thanks!

I have three unused sets of Picato long-scale nickel roundwound 40-60-75-95 in original packaging (clear plastic pack). I've been using Picato for several years now and very happy with them. These light gauge sets are just surplus to requirements. Good quality strings at a very reasonable recession busting price: £6.50 for one set or £17.50 for all three sets including delivery (UK only) Paypal accepted, please PM if interested

Bidding now up to £260 (22 bids) with three days to go so beyond my budget for taking an idle punt. I wonder if any of them know what they might be buying aside from a bit of serious retro cool!

Thanks for all the feedback, particularly throwoff and observer for Defil and Cheesyguitars. From the machine heads it does indeed look like a Defil which would tie in with where it's being sold from (Poland). Listing of Defil guitars from cheesy here for anyone who's interested - http://www.cheesyguitars.com/guitars_poland.html. This one is the coolest by far IMO. All I need now is a Thunderbirds tribute band

Unusual retro fretless currently listed on ebay as 'unknown' ... I'm curious and a bit tempted

These are exceptional pickups. They deliver a stronger fundamental than conventional pups and the unique mid-range tone setup provides much wider control of the sound than just a conventional tone pot. These are the V2JLH (linear humbucker) version as shown here - http://www.villex.com/pickups.html Includes standard jazz bell plate with stacked vol/vol, mid-range sweep and passive tone. I had them installed on a Squier VMJ fretless where they added a whole new dimension to the sound. I sold the VJM earlier this year hence the sale of these. I bought them in Feb 2010 from BCer TPJ, original post here - http://basschat.co.u...s-pickups-sold/ Price £75 delivered (UK only) My feedback - http://basschat.co.u...edback-for-ikay

Warmoth do a 70s pickup position option on their jazz bodies. Don't know of any UK suppliers that offer this. Finding a local luthier to build a body to your spec may be easier.
