Sounds like it might be a phase problem - try switching round the hot/cold inputs for one of the pickups and see if that makes a difference

Sounds like the problem is with the underside of the saddle not making proper contact at one end. If it's just the B string that's isn't as loud as the others then try putting a small strip of adhesive copper shielding foil on the underside of the saddle at that end.

I'm keen on the shorter scale of the Mouse to be honest but didn't know about the Minotaur. Listening to the demo on the Veilette website though it sounds like a very different animal to the mouse (haha). Much more tightly focused sound and less of a db impersonator. Maybe the chambering in the mouse is what gives it its more airy upright sound? I will take a closer look at Veilette though, I do love the sound and flexibility of the semi-hollow piezo/mag Archtop model on the Bass Player video on youtube.

Ideally within striking distance of West Sussex. Fat chance I know but if you don't ask...! I've only heard good things about them but RA doesn't have an agent iin the UK and I'd like to try one if possible to help me decide whether or not to take the plunge. Suggestions for any comparable alternatives also welcome. Thanks

I have Fender CS 60s on my 72 J and Fralins on my JO4. Fralins and CS60s are very similar to my ears, both sound great.

Are you really sure you want to add these covers to your bass?! Sure they look cool but they get in the way when playing which is why most of the old vintage ones seem to get taken off (and lost!). How about using some adhesive pads to stick them on temporarily and see how you get on with them first before drilling holes? Warmoth lined fretless neck, bought from Beedster on this forum a few months ago with the idea of building a project bass. As with so many of my great ideas I 'never got round to it' haha and in truth probably never will so back up for sale to someone who can hopefully make better use of it than me. Lovely neck and in very good condition. Birdseye maple with some flame. Rosewood fingerboard with 21 'fret' lines. Neck is straight and true and trussrod works fine. Standard Warmoth heel dimensions (63.6mm) so should be a straight drop in for a Fender P/J sized pocket. 'Fender Jazzbastard' decal has been applied on top of the varnish and very easy to remove if needed. Recently been looking more closely at bass EQ options and out of curiosity started comparing the frequency centres of various EQ devices - amp EQ controls, EQ pedals, onboard active EQ etc. Chart attached in case it's of interest to anyone. Pure laziness on the part of the body builder IMHO! These days lot of jazz bodies seem to have the larger rout as it's easier to machine and hidden under the pickguard. Even the new US Standard Jazz has this. One benefit of an extra large rout is that it gives you the option to install a P pickup for a P/J configuration. In practical terms, unless you're planning to remove the pickguard it doesn't matter either way.

I've tried various SS but just prefer the sound of nickel for what I do, a touch softer and more organic if you know what I mean. I'd still suggest trying the hotwires or some other 'halfwound'. The only way to find out is to give them a go!

Sounds like you have the sound you like from the string you already use in which case I'd go for either the Elites or Picato if you want to play it safe. If you want to try something different give Status Hotwire half-wounds a go. I really like them, very smooth sounding and a similar to flats but with a bit more zing if you need it.
