1. Aaaaah just go the whole hog and get one of these bad boys...
2.
My conscience just pranged. It must be pretty heart breaking to have the very people you're trying to help, take the piss out of your product.
Given the price it might be deserved this time
3.
Thanks for the good advice. I worked out a rough estimate if the VAT was at the 'lower end' of the products value....and I didnt realise there was an import duty as well. If I add that on, we are talking a saving of maybe £20. Not only that, they could add all sorts of charges, and then Id have to pay for the bank transfer itself (around £20). I did think about the insured aspect as well. if they say 'oh its worth £500' when its worth more, Im not in a good position if anything goes wrong. The main aspect that has made me think about going through a UK dealer is the fact they can sort any problems. They can also deal with all the stress of getting it here and checking it, etc. It might take a little more time, but I think going through a dealer here is much safer.
Definitely a safe bet. I've imported cabs, heads, preamps and basses from the US and I've been slammed with VAT and import duty every sodding time. The only time I ever avoided it was when I brought the thing back myself. That said though I only did that when taking advantage of the exchange rate (New Geddy Lee w/ flightcase for just over £400 anyone? ) . You've made a good call Whatcha thinking of picking up?
4. Hmm... Tune up Have a pint while watching support Tune up Wee Down a shot Find a bottle of water Tune up again Oooon we go
5. +1 to everything said here. I bought an Ampeg 410 Great guy, dealt with everything quickly and it was packaged well. Answered all PMs quickly and made this one of the most hassle free deals I've had. Also the cab is in amazing condition and honestly feels like new. Definitely recommended
6. Gorgeous bass I understand your reservations about posting , I've had stuff get damaged (though thankfully not lost) too. Maybe if someone were willing to organise a courier to collect it from your house at your convenience that might be a compromise that suits everyone and helps you get it packed off to a new home quickly? Just thought I'd throw it out there. Good luck with the sale
7. God that must weigh a ton...
8. http://www.mcintyreguitars.com/about.htm or http://www.seibass.com/ ? Might be worth going down to the gallery as well because that "keeper" bass might just be lurking there in the form of an Fbass or the like
9. Can't go wrong with a gator IMHO...
10.
Great bassist, and a nice guy, had a many a chat with him about the pros and cons of Jazzes and Precisions.
Oh good lord I would kill for that opportunity. He's the guy that inspired me to pick up a bass when I was 11 and he is hands down my favourite vocalist on the planet. He is absolutely my no.1 musical hero! Tell us more!
11. I paid £200 for mine in PMT about 6 years ago . First bass! Great bass for the price, mine still gets a play every once in a while
12.
Then you have McFly, who had all their major success, then when they were established enough they left the label, created their own label and now release everything out of their pockets.
Perfect game plan. Nothing but respect for them
13.
I gather it's like the worst loan you never signed up for...
Too true. A guy I know's band got offered a deal a while ago and apparently it broke down to something like this: They give you so many thousand for equipment and recording etc as a loan They do this with about 10 bands Once the records are made they'll promote maybe 1 or 2 of them and do nothing for the others They drop whoever doesn't come up with the goods This then leaves the majority in the position of no record deal and thousands of pounds worth of debt. Not to mention the whole idea of pay to play. I was reading an interview which said back in the day you used to pay $150K to get onto the Ozzfest tour. Crazy amount of money. It seems it isn't worth being in a major nowadays unless you're already in a well established and big band (U2, Coldplay etc). Bah. That said though, does anyone have info on how the indie labels operate?
14. +1 re:A Wilhelm Scream Also got to put in a vote for Alkaline Trio's Dan Andriano. Some fun basslines while also singing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWjTdPk38v8
15. Where are you based?
16.
Just about sums up my views on the matter.
That made me laugh far far more than it should have As for the argument in hand *runs away*
17.
The second option almost invariably Primarily because rack compressors are generally built to operate with signals around 0db (somewhere approaching a volt) - more than most basses put out, and also because they won't (necessarily) be a good input stage for use with passive basses. Most amps these days have an FX loop for the purpose, others have preamp out and power amp in - either should be fine.
Coolies, thank you!
18. Quick question though, say you had a rack compressor, where would this go in a live set up? Bass --> Compressor --> Preamp/poweramp--> Cab or Bass --> Preamp --> Compressor --> Poweramp --> Cab ?
19. I'll be honest I don't. He replies pretty speedily to emails though
20. http://norwich.gumtree.com/norwich/38/35583938.html Not my cab but i've seen pics and spoken to the guy - this does exist. Thought I'd give everyone a heads up cos this is one hell of a price I think
21. Bought a Mesa poweramp, top notch
22.
For £750 would likely buy you a decentish second-hand original Musicman, or certainly a Warwick or Lakland.
Definitely. I got mine and sold mine on for sub £700. Tbh I think it's insane to by a MM new, their value drops too quickly after buying. I mean seriously, look what you can get for £750 on the for sale section...
23.
Thanks guys, appreciate the help. looks liek a fair few are turning 2 x 10's on their side. If only Ashdown made a 2 x 12 or a 3 x 10 Anyway, I think I will go with the 4 x 10.
Nice cabs they are, had one for a while They weigh a ton though, watch your back!
24. ...I really like Green Day...I think they have catchy hooks and it's easy and upbeat music that puts a smile on my face That said, they're never going to exactly push musical boundries, but then again they've perfected what they do to a fine art. And I loved Nimrod, loved all their albums actually . Also if we're going to dislike people because they play root notes fast then we are going to knock out huge swathes of music lol...
