1. Thought I'd start a little build diary for my upcoming baby  . Should be here in 10-12 months! I've been saving a fair while for this and after realising I have more than enough to put a deposit down I contacted Mr. Mike to discuss wood options. I told him I was looking for a bright and growly bass, with a nice roundness in the lower mids that gives a bit of warmth to the overall sound, and he confirmed that the wood options I was looking at would help me along to that sound. I placed a deposit through the grooveshoppe as they gave me the best price and also seemed the most genuine (I got put off by the uber hard sell tactic basscentral went for :) ) , and now we're here today. Anyhoo! Specs!

Specs:

Ash Body
Walnut Burl Top
Ash Neck
Birdseye Maple Fretboard
Matching trussrod cover and headstock
21 Fret
35 inch scale

The hardware and PUs are all standard MTD

I'm so excited, will add pics as they arrive! This is really a dream come true

Still, the next year is going to be a slow one for you, still an MTD build diary will be nice to see instead of Shukers all the time.
That's very kind of you :), and the build diary never occurred to me! I'll make one when more details come in

3.
Did Mike give an estimated time?
I actually went through GrooveShoppe, and they are saying about 10-12 months, and Mike gave a similar time too, though he mentioned that the Bass Gallery and some other American shops had basses on order with flexible options.

While it's going to suck waiting that long, being brutally honest it's probably going to work out better financially for it to take that long :)

4. I would go with the CL if I had to choose between the two, however the best bass tone I've ever heard through an Ampeg 810E was with an Orange AD-200B / Mk3. It sounded ball breakingly good.

Either way, post pics when you get your chosen head :)

Best of luck!

5. Gotta be:

1) James Jamerson - I just love everything about the man
2) James Leach - Think he's extremely creative in applying techniques
3) Nathan Watts - Like his tone, just like his playing in general

:)

6. Hi there,

Just wondering what an ash body and neck with a walnut burl top and a maple board would sound like? From what I understand ash and maple would produce a quite bright and growly sound, but would walnut bring to the mix? I can't really find much information on it and I'll be honest I've only been drawn to it so far based on looks alone. I know what kind of tone I'm going for here so I'd be really interested to hear what you guys think of walnut :)

Ta'

7. Got to be purple - I was converted when I saw a purple Fbass on a bass store website...was gorgeous, wood grain showing through perfectly and everthing...I'll try and find a pic...

8. Only ever managed to make one trip down to the gallery, though I got to play with some very pretty amps and ended up buying a load of epifani stuff so I'm extremely happy :) . I'm trying to avoid coming back because I can't start spending money I don't have!

They're awesome

Can I have a discount now?

9.
The wedding ring won't affect your bass playing as much as the resulting abject misery and self-loathing will.
That's nice.

Good on ya getting married and have a long and wonderful life with the missus :)
