1. I've just been browsing the Black Basses thread in gear porn and I can say that Black Basses are cool
 2.
Ki0gon on this very forum can do you a pretty fine electrics upgrade kit - wired pots/jack with screw terminals for your pups - at a very reasonable cost. Gives you an opportunity to chop and change the pups, too - see which you prefer.
^this. KiOgon is a gent and can give you some great advice. The kits are very well made and the price is, as Paul says, very reasonable. I've got one of KiOgon's wiring looms in my P bass, it sounds fantastic.
 3.
I agree - but I'll admit to gassing in the FS forums!
Wondered what that smell was EDIT: I don't gig atm because of a lack of motivated others.
 4. Only the root, the rest is shapes.
 5. I voted cool, but as I own a black bass it probably means they're boring
 6. There seem to be a lot of Artists missing from the Ashdown site. It may be something to do with the website make over?
 7. Throw your cables in a bag and then when you need one just give Jack a tug
 8. I'm not liking the sound of a particular company. I'm thankful I don't like their product.
 9. I used to have one of them, great action and fantastic tone. Oh I miss it
 10. I've got this sort of thing going on at the moment. Ignore the practice amp with the laptop on it, it's peripheral. It's loud.
 11. DUCK!!!!!!!
 12.
When you first join this forum, you think everyone is a working player.... and certainly if you go through the GAS, gear and classified threads... but it has all sorts. You'll probably find plenty of gear in the classifieds that has never been giigged... or even been fired up in anger... You make up your own mind
My gear's been gigged, just by other people
 13.
Get something like a reliable , mid price job ( I use the GK MB series) that doesn;t break your back and transports easily - and have a holiday or some other life experience. with the rest of the grand. It's just a black box with knobs on whatever you get - sound is such a subjective thing anyway and the williams wouldn't know the difference between a hi fi sound that cost you a fortune and a kick in the nads.

My comments were less about style and more about my 34 years of being paid to entertain folk. Music is (I hope) important to us all. Gear is a tool to help us make music. We should remember that and not become gear collectors. Most of us here will be craftsmen rather than artists - a good craftsman uses the simplest , most efficient and most reliable tool he can find that does the job he needs it to do.
^This.
I have an Ampeg BA-115, and it's never let me down. Though it does weigh as much as an Austin Maxi.
And a good job too. Last thing you want is your gear flying off stage. I'm very wary of this lightweight stuff. I want something that weighs as much as I do, I don't blow away when a drafty door is left open and I don't want my gear to either.
 14. A Rockbass Corvette has so much bottom end you'll blow doors off. Although what you really want is a P bass, you know you do
 15.
Probably, but we are about to start gigging and increasing our tracks, so I'm hoping I can add some more challenging songs into the set. I really like the guys so don't want to leave.
I wish I could be as nice and patient as you SC. I get to about a month of working with a band and want to rip my fingers off to avoid the pain of having to go on with the charade of being interested.
 16. I haven't got a cheeky bass, I paid through the bleedin' nose for them :/
 17.
Unfortunately my entire band are clued up about mids, so everyone boosts them and we end up with a big mess. I'm going to start cutting mine back (I play guitar) to give the other guitar and the bass more room I think... oh for a parametric EQ.
You do what!?!?!?!?!?!?!
 18.
I've joined the club! JHS Vintage Tony Butler Signature.
Very nice. I saw Tony Butler last December. He'd organised a showcase of bands in a pub near me. One of the bassists was playing a TB sig, sounded really nice.
 19.
Sometimes I think it would be easier to be a bedroom bassist, and avoid band politics!
So true. Band politics is the proverbial pain in the rear.
 20. If I wasn't in a band I wouldn't play my bass. I'd start to learn to play the guitar I bought.
 21. I wouldn't p*** on a Ric if it were on fire. Ugly damn things IMO.
 22. I'm surprised Washburn haven't sued and in turn Fender haven't sued Ibanez for the grooveline. After all they all look 'similar'. I know a company that would
 23. Damn my GAS I've gone from 1 bass and 1 combo to... 2 basses, 1 head, 1 cab, 1 combo, 1 practice combo...and I still want more :/
 24.
My first bass was a 198? Fender P which I used for quite a few years before moving off into the Japanese market. I found the Japanese stuff a little easier to play and it made a nice change from the 'standard' Fender P sound - nowt wrong with that sound if that's what you want, but it just didn't suit my needs at the time. I still keep a (rarely used) Fender J which I use when the occasional artist\band frown at anything other than Fender, just to keep the peace. (And secure me the gig! )
Do people frown when you turn up with a non-Fender? Really?!! I just take along whatever tickles my whistle, which ok I haven't actually got a Fender but still, if I want to play the SR300 then that is what goes with me. And, I don't like to have favourites
 25.
I'm noodling on my Jazz V right now
Smutty talk like that shouldn't be allowed on a public forum
