1.
From my perception it's not that at all but the other way around. I'm quite happy for people to play Fenders (or any other make of bass) provided that they realise that there is nothing automatically superior about their choice. If the Fender bass suits you that's great. But don't go telling me that "Leo got it right" or other similar bollocks clichés when if you look at it objectively you'll see that actually all he did was get it slightly less wrong than his competitors of the time. You can't tell me that changing the neck joint so that it's no longer a massively lumpy thing that gets in the way from the 15th fret onwards isn't an improvement, or redesigning the headstock with an angle so that you no longer have to use string retainers and wind ridiculous amounts of string around the machine head posts to get a decent break angle over the nut won't improve tuning stability and give a more even feel to the compliance of the strings. Also while scaled-up guitar bodies might work if you're a large-boned, well-fed American, for a lot of us in the rest of the world they are too big and uncomfortable. TBH I never knew there was supposed to be anything extra special about the Fender bass when compared to the other well-regarded electric musical instrument makers until I discovered internet bass forums.
Good grief, you seem to have quite a few problems/requirements when it comes to bass design. Perhaps a different instrument would suit better?
2.
Never mind the maple , that's a lovely bit of kitchen tiling - that grouting looks like iit was done by a professional - and the work surfaces look nice too .
This is the sort of quality response basschat needs. More of this please.
3.
Hey Marv, is that a room in which you make a din? ...I'll get me coat.
Certainly was on Thursday when I set up the Ampeg with the combo
4. I'm pretty much with TG. He was rude, arrogant and insulting and hence in no way contributed to a constructive debate or discussion. The fact he's now been banned from 2 bass forums speaks volumes.
5. He does a good job of irritating people. I'm surprised he lasted past his first post on TB before being banned. I don't get the club thing on TB, is like frat houses?
6. The stuff in my sig plus a 35w practice amp, an electric guitar and 20w practice amp for that and a bag of bits and bobs all live in the dinning room. The dinning room is not very big btw
7. I have now
8. Can't change mine either
9. I'd put my £270 towards something else. Not with a barge pole comes to mind.
10.
This is exactly why I avoid buying Fenders nowadays. Why use a piece of Maple with an irregular grain pattern for a neck in the first place? Surely its asking for potential grief? Now; time to look out the suit of armour before the howling Fender mob descend upon me.
Would you classify a 1989 instrument in the 'nowadays' category?
11. It makes a big difference to my ears. Unlined just sounds clanky.
12. Cheers I went for the Switchblade in the end after working out what I really wanted to do. Only £35. Although I'm going to have to save up and get some decent cables
13. Bought Lee's Ampeg 410 from him. Seamless and great to meet Lee.
14. I'm toying with the idea of using two amps. I've saw this http://www.ehx.com/p...witchblade-plus I think it'll work, just wondering if there are any other inexpensive options. By inexpensive, that knocks out things like Sansamp thingys or Zoom wot nots. Cheers. EDIT: I'm useless with a soldering iron so making me own isn't an option...also, I'm too lazy.
15. Worked with a band last year where the singer and guitarist were an item. A right royal PITA. Their personal problems would spill into band politics, so if they'd had an argument during the day/week/month that would manifest itself in an argument in the band. AND, they'd both bitch about each other behind the other one's back.
16.
So there was electronic music before The Beatles. I'm shocked and not a little horrified. I'm sure i read somewhere that the Fab Four invented music.
You've quoted me, but you'll have to explain what your post means as it makes no sense to me.
17.
This'll annoy some of you! Some interesting analysis of their music though:
Pah! What does Howard Goodall know? He's only studied music and got a CBE for services to music education. He's not qualified to comment on this subject.
18. I got it wrong. On your headstock be it
19. On your neck be it.
20. I've never been able to get into Level42, but King is a very talented musician, there is no doubt about that in my mind. I wish I could be influenced by him but I can't slap for toffee
21. Popular music is dead because music isn't popular. That's the great thing about satire, the grain of truth underpinning it.
22.
ive never ever said anyone was the best, i dont see how you define a best, only what is best for you as a listener, watcher, admirer etc...
Sorry, I should have put this little fella in . Surely with nearly 800 posts you've heard of the silly King vs Flea 'discussions'? I wasn't being at all serious.
23.
LOL. why oh why do people get opinionated against others ill never know.
http://basschat.co.uk/topic/199459-flea/page__pid__1974885#entry1974885 Post 8

Flea.

He's not as good as Mark King.
