1. PRS for Music should take the stick for compiling such a ridiculous list and JLS should be ashamed to receive such an 'award'. Their fan base is quite young and it gives the impression a hard working band only do 34 shows then take the rest of the year off. The band I'm going to see tomorrow do between 240 and 260 gigs a year, from small pub venues to having just come back from supporting Deep Purple in large venues in Europe. In between they are writing and recording. That to me is hard work.
 2.
You can smell me from there..? Better have a shower.
The current Mrs Discreet away again?
 3.
Scuse me, while I butter this scone.
You've been scone a little while from this thread.
 4.
Terrible!
Really? It could have been a Stepping Scone. It's all academic anyway as it's Scone Free now. EDIT: Disclaimer. I'm on powerful medication that can sometimes cloud my judgement. Bit like a Purple Haze decends.
 5. Doesn't matter now what it is because it's probably scone along its way!!!
 6.
Rich, EE were formed at the same time as Alt J but their releases pre-date Alt J by 4 years. They achieved notoriety before alt J, they were getting industry and broadcaster plaudits long before Alt J. They sound nothing like Alt J. What does 'trying too hard' sound like? And why is being fussy about the music one makes a negative thing?
Both formed in 2007. EE have been picking up plaudits and nominations for various awards over the past few years, but still not quite broken through etc etc. If I were an A&R bod at their record company I would have been looking at the success of Alt-J, seeing this as a prime time to really push EE and trying to tap into it. They may sound different, however, they're occupying a similar space musically and I'd definitely be trying to hook some of Alt-J's audience. They're both 'Indie Pop/Rock' bands. For my taste, fussy, because each element seems to be trying to battle for attention and distracting from the whole, i.e the song itself. And yes all music is contrived. As soon as you have an idea and start to develop it it becomes contrived. However, I agree with discreet, this feels like they have purposely gone out of their way to create something 'credible'. I don't hate their material, it just doesn't do anything for me either. I'm off to sharpen my knives and clean my shotgun whilst listening to some experimental jazz
 7.
Exactly and that is what it is about. Maybe they need to use a word other than Masterclass as that implies a- they are a master and b- it is a class. It is more of a general talk from a bassist in my experience.
More "An Audience With Peter Hook". They could video it and show for anyone who couldn't attend on a BBC4 at about 1am in the morning
 8. Never heard of them before. If it's true, as the OP has said, that there are ads for them all over the internet then it would seem to me that their record company are pushing them hard on the tails of the succes Alt-J have enjoyed recently. "If you liked these guys then try these for size!!!" EE don't do an awful lot for me. It's like they're trying to hard, a bit fussy.
 9. He's probably going to show people how to screw up your back by playing the bass around your ankles.
 10.
Before someone forgets to mention it: different series can have different necks, so more or less chunky P necks exist and more or less slim J necks. People will certainly chime in with hard facts and better knowledge, but at least this has now been mentioned. best, bert
Exactly. There's quite a few different nut sizes in the various Precision ranges. Then of course the profile (back to front) of the neck can be different. The Rockbass Corvette I had had a 38mm nut, so Jazz width, but was as chunky as. I hated it. The P bass I have has a 43.1mm nut but due to the profile I find much easier to play. As Conan said, you can't prejudge a neck by what it says the dimensions are. Pick it up and play it.
 11. I do like the PB70, a lot. That's the one for me. I'm not a great fan of Jazz basses but some on the Fender Japan site are great looking.
 12. ...and that Mitch Mitchell still moving bits of kit around. The clip has a bass player in it, so I should imagine you're on safe ground in this forum They'd probably be written off as amateurs today and totally ignored.
 13.
Yes. Sid and Doris Bonkers of Croydon.
I think my brother lived next door to them when he lived in Croydon.
 14.
I might pop along to the palladium on the 16th of Feb, if you fancy a night out Marvin?
Mr Vader, are you asking me out on a date? You naughty man, I am married you know...and so are you Might be up for that. Be in touch closer to the time?
 15. In the end I bought Fender Mustang I. I was in a music shop, they had one I bought it. I can see why they are recommended as a home practice amp. It's an impressive little bit of kit and quite loud. As I don't intend to take my guitar playing any further than the living room it's perfect.
 16. I might have to catch you guys as you play around my way a bit.
 17.
I'm not sure I've ever heard any Coldplay - I'll have to go and have a listen now...
Why? Are you having problems sleeping?
 18.
Interesting. I heard some SL stuff a few months ago that he posted on Facebook, but it sounded even more random than JG's stuff. It was like a sort of gamelan nightmare, meditation music for serial killers.
I know, odd in'it . I think if I'm going to listen to 'random' then it's got to be very random I suppose. I like the right on the edge experimentation...I think. Anyway my secret's out now, I'm off to sharpen my knives
 19. I've listened to a couple of the albums over the past few weeks. I haven't downloaded any because I simply can't get into the compositions. More into Steve Lawson really.
 20.
My ebony fretless warmoth neck is probably the nicest neck I have ever played. So no, a squier will not match up. It might be good enough with some fettling though. better is also a very subjective word.
Fettling. What a fantastic word to use. I've just been on the Warmouth site and made my custom neck $415 and custom body $370.
 21. Cheers Lozz. Might go for the HotCover in that case. Thanks again.
 22. How well padded are the Roqsolid covers? I'm considering getting one. Either that or HotCovers seem quite good.
 23. I personally can't see a gap at the top of the neck pocket ( I may need new glasses ). However, I'd agree with discreet that the 'photo' has been so processed and manipulated it's not even a picture of a real bass anymore. If you 'click' through all the possible models they've all got that funny silk on the A string Jack pointed out. This probably gives a clue to how much the image has been nobbled.
 24.
+1 Lovely strings. My favourite flats. They remind me a little of D'Addario chromes, but I prefer the Fenders. I have them currently on my Squier Precision CV 50s and on a Jazz.
It's the first time I've ever put flats on one of my basses. They sound just spot on my precision. And for the price, I'm really impressed with the Fenders.
