1.
so many of my musical endeavours have foundered recently i'm starting to think that the best thing i can do for the london music scene is to retire ! lots of commitment problems really - i wonder whether at 42 i've reached the point where almost all my peers doing music do it as very much a 'kick about' and i'm the odd one out wanting everyone to come to every practice having done the musical 'homework'. i'm finding it hard to find reasons to look for another band or to get something going myself at the moment...it's a real shame.
This. Being committed, putting in the groundwork, doing your homework all seem to count for nothing.
2. I've seen the Fender Frontman 25R for a little under £100. They seem quite reasonable. Don't know. What does anyone else use?
3.
The type that don't go out much and are therefore far too hammered
As good a reason as any not to go out over Christmas and New Year full stop (unless you are gigging, and being paid handsomely for it of course). Gave up on the pub at Christmas some time ago when I started loosing more pints due to 'once a year' drinkers than I was managing to actually drink.
4.
Drummer and I are 'hobby' players and we're both very reliable so I wish to challenge the assertation that hobby players should be avoided.
I hope you don't think I'm some wanna be pro . Music is my hobby. In fact, it was the others in the band who thought we could 'make it', just turned out I was the most reliable. You'd ask the keyboard player if he was ok for practice the following week, he'd reply that he wasn't sure. The guy was out of work, no money, couldn't afford to watch the TV. I must admit I lost my temper one week and sarcastically asked what it was in his extensive social diary that was possibly getting in the way... karaoke down the pub apparently
5.
Hey Marvin, sorry about the band fail man. But.. although you think all that time was wasted, it really wasn`t because you`ve probably learned so much you don`t realise. Put it this way, if you hadn`t had the last 18 months, you would have all those mistakes still to make. But now you know better. Good luck with your next band. MM (oh yes you will )
Thank you I was going to say I had a second band to fall back on, but I'm not sure whether the others want to keep going with that one The flaky band never actually broke up apparently, I might add. The singer and guitarist chucked the keys out but didn't have the guts to say that to him. So rather they said the band had split. Couple of days later they contacted me saying practice as usual this week. Really
6. I'm listening to a lot of Tom McRae lately. Especially since I saw him play a gig near me. Love his material.
7.
I know lots of bassists play lesser instruments on the side
You heard I've bought a guitar haven't you? I'm sorry, it was such a pretty colour that's all...and I'm weak and fickle. Should I return in? Oh the shame
8. Kettle leads should only ever be attached to kettles, end of. Now someone make the tea.
9. I only play originals now and have no time for covers.
10. I regularly look(ed) at the old for sale forums. In a way they reflected the feel of the site. You were selling stuff, amongst like minded individuals, discussing it, having a laugh occasionally. I can't be bothered with the classifieds, it just doesn't work for me, I find it a bit clunky. As for the fee idea. I rarely buy or sell on here, so it would depend where the fee was pitched as to whether I would advertise stuff I'd want to sell. It would certainly put me off putting things like, maybe, strings or pickups in the classifieds section.
11. I always try to use the lead that was provided with the amp or combo and only that lead, and use the same rated fuse as supplied by the manufacturer. Not very technical I know but there you go.
12. Must be a slow day in the office
13. Buy the one you like the look of, that's it.
14. I've just bought a guitar and am looking forward to learning how to play. I've always wanted to play. I don't want to be a 'bass player' or a 'guitarist'. I'd like to be in a postion to just enjoy playing music on either.
15.
Not this time Nige - I'm playing in Barnes that night. Have a good one.
I suppose it was only a matter of time, with venues shutting down, that we'd resort to playing in agricultural buildings. Nige, get thee self down here to Wurzel country. All these big smoke gigs are no good at all. I'll introduce you to Dave Vader, he's famous (not really...although he might be <---wasn't sure which one to use). Have a good'n.
I merely ask 'is this still for sale'...
Oh. But why? You don't like Jazz basses

18. Neither choice or relegation. Only instrument left if I wanted to be in a band with my mates. EDIT: just to point out, I don't know how to play guitar
19. Senility must be creepy in as well. The guitarist in the band was only talking about LickLibrary the other day. Thanks Dood
Concise and to the point..
Lacking in detail though I thought.
22. As my mid life crisis gathers apace I thought I'd learn to play the guitar - I thought it'd be crap at something other than just the bass. At present I know the chords G and D, which considering I don't even own a guitar, I thought was not bad Can anyone recommend some good online resources to get me started please? Or a book, I'm not fussy.
23. If one has the misfortune to live in the sticks, choice is highly limited. As an inmate of North Devon...Mansons is quite nice, staff very pleasant and helpful when I've been in there. I'd always go back. Very decent selection of bass equipment. Project Music, also in Exeter, I've found them to be decent sorts. That's about it for me. Online, I've used GAK and Gear4Music occasionally, never had a problem.
