Sold Steve a set of strings, really quick payment and good communication throughout. No qualms doing a deal with Steve again.

Anything you like or feel comfortable playing. You can always change your tone with those knob things on your amp etc etc I play for a prog metal band (sort of). I use my 4 string Ibanez SR or Squier P bass. They also both fit perfectly with the blues rock band I shall going to rehearse with in about 30 mins

Not currently. Mainly originals (actually 2 originals bands, beginnings of), although we may do [u]some[/u] covers in our own style I stress only some.

If you go to the Ibanez UK/European website they don't list a 1x10 cab like they do on the US. It would be a bit of a PITA if you couldn't get the matching ext cab to allow you to open up the amp fully. But then again, neither do they list the Soundgear 400 as available in the UK, but I know you can get one, I've played one

Prog Metal/Symphonic Metal band (I'm not quite sure what is, I'm covering all bases there <--- look a pun ), is having a hellish time finding a drummer. Their original drummer was brilliant, creative and like a metronome. I played live with him once, without any rehearsals, and it was so easy to play. I knew exactly where I was in the songs from just listening to him. Unfortunately he left. His replacement was totally inappropriate. I didn't listen to him. He'd play something different every time he played, he never listened to the song or the rest of us, so the rhythm even changed. He's been...moved on.

Is it the nut width or neck profile/shape that's the issue. I've got an Ibanez SR with a stupidly thin neck, it's got a Jazz nut width but also the profile/shape is very thin i.e there's not a lot of wood between my fingers and my thumb if you get my drift. Conversely, a Rockbass Corvette I owned had the same nut width but had a neck like a baseball bat, which I found nigh on impossible to play, crucified my hand. Now I've got an old Squier P bass and despite it having the wider nut, the shape of the neck makes it very comfortable to play. I've got crap hands btw I've just become a pbass convert so I'm biased.

Having got into 2 originals bands recently I just don't find covers appealing. That said, a band I depped for a while back did a metal cover of the Cure's Lullaby which was the closest to good fun playing a cover.

There's only one use for an isolated track...if you're trying to learn that part and you can't hear it well enough in the mix The band I'm in recorded a jam we had a couple of weeks ago and we could isolate our tracks. As someone who doesn't rate his playing anyway, hearing my bass part on its own made my confidence plumet. In the mix it sounded fine and my band mates thought so to. What ya know

Thank you everyone. I finished shielding the pbass this evening and I do believe it's worked. For the 'hole' between the two cavities I cased the wires in a drinking straw and then covered it in copper tape, then pushed it through the hole. A wire connects the two cavities, I improved the ground contact on the bridge and I also grounded the shielding. Belt and braces

£30, as TheGreek says, is nothing. If it works you're quids in. Personally I'd probably get a quote on the on/off switch being repaired, but that's just me . Can't imagine it'd be too much tbh

I need to shield my P bass. I'm just a little unsure as to the exact wiring re. the grounds after. The pickup and control cavity are seperate, the wires from the pickup to control cavity go through a hole. Do I solder a wire to the shielding of both cavities so they are 'connected'? Also I assume you remove the ground wire from pot to pot and just have one to the bridge from the volume pot? None of this probably makes sense

I used tab loads last year when in a covers band. I don't have the time to work it out by ear, I have the trappings of a full time job, kids etc. Although I can't see how lecturing someone on 'learn yourself by ear' is pertinent to the thread. And surely it's obvious who writes tabs, people who learn songs by ear. Given that most of it's wrong then, learning by ear can't be as accurate as it's cracked up to be.

The guitarist in my band bought one of these for £25 for another project he was doing. I've borrowed it a few times. I wasn't overly impressed with the pickup and electrics, but that could easily be replaced, and given the original price What I was impressed with was the general feel of it. The neck in particular I found very easy to play. I'd have one.

A ridiculous heavy handed approach to something that really isn't causing the music industry a problem regards lost revenue. If you try looking for official transcripts for bass your choice is severely limited. I personally take a dim view of bands who would support blocking unofficial tab.

Theory just describes what your ears are telling you play. Who honestly, when they are playing, thinks "I'm going to play an 11th or 6th now". It just flows on what you know sounds right falling off that fretboard. It should be intuitive because music is an expression of yourself, an art, not numbers, dots and squiggles.

I bought an early 90's Korean Squier P bass a couple of weeks ago and I absolutely love it. Don't know how well regarded these Korean made P's are but...it certainly does the business.
