1.
Yeah, the sustain is really nice. As one of its former owners you wouldn't happen to know what the string gauge is/was? It's a heavier gauge than the .38 - .98 on my Overwater but I do like it. Just as easy to play as the lighter gauge and more thump to it. I may even put the heavier gauge on my Overwater but I'll wait until I can afford a new setup for it at the same time. I wasn't sure about the chunkiness of the neck before I bought it but it's quite nice. The neck width is nice and small (like my Bass Collections actually) but the extra thickness just really helps give it a solid feel. And this is from a guy who adores thin necks.
If the ball end of the strings are colour coded then they'll be Fender 7150ML Pure Nickel Roundwounds. Gauge 100, 80, 65, 45. I think
 2. The thing I noticed about this particular bass (I bought it from then sold it back to Wayne) is the ludicrous amount of sustain it has. I swear if you pluck the E string and just let it ring out it'll keep going for a week or more It's a belting bass. I just couldn't get on with the chunky neck, gave my hand cramp.
 3.
I have a slightly different approach to the ones already mentioned - if I can't play something after about 10 minutes I just give up & don't bother with it ever again.

I tend to have a toddler-esque temper tantrum... Then slow it down, practice it in batches of 4 bars, then add them together, if I still, can't get it, I have a bigger toddler type tantrum and sulk

I just play root notes until the band drop the song because it sounds rubbish.........
These are quality responses which I very much like
 4.
this may be an increadibly stupid question - when the bass is active the red light is on right?
If the switch is in the active position then the red light will be on.
 5.
If only I liked punk/rock......!
This is the problem in life, I like punk/rock but don't live in Dorset, whereas you live in Dorset but don't like aforementioned genre Would have a go at this but I live toooooooooo far away.
 6. I ignore our drummer, he's sh*t
 7.
Whether or not you like the band or what Hooky played, you have to admit he made people rethink about the role of the bass guitar in pop/rock.
Probably not. If you liked him you probably tried to emulate or copy him. If you didn't, you ignored him, wrote him off as a useless bass player and lumped him in with the bloke from U2. His influence on pop/rock has been minor at best.
 8.
The great thing about joy division was that they ignored all the conventional instrumental roles. Just because you play an instrument that is traditionally associated with producing low notes doesn't mean you have to stick to them.
I always assumed Hook played high on his G string because he didn't have the faintest idea what could be done on the rest of the fretboard.
 9. Joy Division, punks very own jazz/fusion. f***ing awful, always were. Most overrated band to come out of the second, new wave whatever thing punk stuff.
 10. Bought Dave's GK Backline 600 Great bloke. All arranged quickly and a deal done as deals should be, in a pub with pints and a chat.
 11. Listened to the tracks on YouTube. Won't bother again, little uninspiring and a bit lacking tbh.
 12.
If I bought something I wasn't pleased with on here, I would politely take it up with the seller and see if some sort of compromise could be achieved... in my experience most people on here are pretty reasonable. In my view there is only one definition of the term 'mint', which is: unworn, undamaged, in perfect condition, brand-new and factory-fresh. 'Mint' with a few dings and scratches is NOT mint, IMHO. Contradiction in terms.
Spot on. I saw an Ibanez sr600 in a music shop a few weeks ago described as in excellent condition. As it is the newest model which have only been out for 6 months or so I would have expected it to be without a mark. To me it was in bloody awful condition considering it's limited age, having quite a few marks on the body, and I didn't even look closely at it.. I thought the description took the piss. If that was excellent then my Sr300 would be pristine, neigh untouched.
 13. Having read several threads on these amps I'd have to say I wouldn't buy one. Not particularly because of the fuss over what the true 'watt' rating it has but the overall impression to me is it's loud if you want to honk. I do not wish to honk.
 14.
You have to have one or they won't let you play.
I'll remember this important info. Thank you.
 15.
The bassist & drummer will be expected to play an endless 12 bar progression whilst an array of middle aged guitarists play completely uninspired (& uninspiring) pentatonic solos over it. Most of these guitarists will be wearing t-shirts with pictures of eagles or wolves on them & a waistcoat over the top of it. There will also usually be a fat bald bloke who gets up and plays a harmonica REALLY badly. It's hell on earth.
This has always been my suspicion and why I've always steered well clear of them and no intention of going to one in the near future. This may change when in my advancing years, and I don't own a waistcoat yet.
 16.
I've jammed Blues (pick a key + tempo and feel, then start playing), original material (if someone has a riff/lick/idea build around that) and covers (everyone knows the song structure and hopefully the words so just start playing after the count and see where it goes) and tbh my definition of 'jamming' is that not everyone present has learned what they were supposed to learn for said get-together!
So the bass player will be thinking it's a practice as they've learnt their stuff and everyone else will be winging it
 17. Only because someone suggested a 'jam' to see if we gel, it got me thinking. What is a jam? Really, you know. Do you arse about with songs you all might know? Do you play just random stuff that just pops into your 'ead? WIth my current band 'jamming' means the latter, and is a way of sometimes finding new ideas for original material. However, what if it's for a covers band? EDIT: and what happens at jam nights? I've been to open mic nights but not jam nights. Is there a difference?
 18. We've got 3 kids (eldest now 8 and two youngest are 5) and not one of them has touched my bass without me saying they can. The only thing they've ever done is alter the eq on my amp when it was turned off.
 19.
This thread
Glad I'm not the only one
 20.
COULD win a Prize?? SHOULD win a Prize?? Maybe- "I better not be sayin' anything about a Prize 'round these h'yar parts, or I'll be horn-swoggled if some take umbrage and virtually kick my arse for implying such' Oh, If I could only turn back the clock of Time..... I'd buy the right lottery ticket, that's what!
Putting should would have rattled the natives even more, probably
 21.
Not even if I bought one ticket 'n let thee in thru t' bog window!
If thee could geet someone t' give me a bump up, I were quite short in 78. Grand of yee
 22. "MAY" win a prize!? Tfft, it's July anyway, 6 weeks late.
 23.
French or German? Wood or carbon fibre?
One of each
 24. The phase cancellation can be quite noticeable sometimes. I tend to use the neck pick up a lot lately for a that P bass tone as this works well in the band I'm playing with at the moment.
 25.
Ah you see, I'm an old sod, my first (Motorhead) gig was around 1978 (poss even '77). They were likened to a loud punk band then. A' t' Bold Street Workingmen's Club, Accrington, 'n we all 'ad kippers f' tea.
Well...I'm not that young really, but I was only 5 in '78 so I probably wouldn't have been allowed in t' Bold Street Workingmen's Club, Accrington.
