1.
I think some Cort Curbows are, though.
Yes, the Curbows are made of Luthite. They probably had a load left over from making the EDB's (well known that Cort make some of Ibanez basses, isn't it? ) I've only seen an EDB once. Looked and sounded very nice.
2. Thanks Rich. I wasn't aware that the tone and volume controls emulated early Jazz basses. There's a JagVM in my local music store so I may just pop along and have a try. They seem to sound ok, I was at a gig on sunday and the bass player was playing one.
3. I'm looking at one of these, you know the Vintage Modified ones, to add to my collection It appears there is a separate tone control for each pickup. Is that right? Does this result in being able to get some 'odd' sounds, like tone rolled off on one but full on on the other? Just wondered, that's all. Cheers
4. It's videos like that that make me feel a whole lot better about my playing
5. As Mep said, 911tab. It trawls loads of free tab sites. May I also suggest downloading TuxGuitar, as then you can download the GuitarPro tabs/scores. Works a treat as it's got loads of features.
6. Bass lines are very dull. I'd much rather listen to a guitar solo. Who threw that?
7. Great post AC, thanks. Given me plenty to think on.
8.
I wholeheartedly recommend a Squier VMJ, see if you can find one used.
There was one of those in the FS section for about £175, but I can't find it anymore.
9. I've got an SR300, great bass. There's a Pearl White SR300 in the For Sale section for about £150. I'd try a few others as well though.
10. It's just a matter of weight for me. The TVX EX is 46.6kg . My back just won't put up with that sort of punishment. Unfortunately casters still doesn't get it out of the car boot
11. Because Mrs Marvin is fickle and likes pretty colours over anything else, apparently this could be a possiblilty but a Squier P-Bass is a no because it looks boring. Seems a good price, a very beefed up SR300 and almost a 500.
12. New these are retailing at around £270-80 so £150 is pretty good. Have a bump
13.
Remember your towel
Without doubt the single most important 'very handy tip'.
14. http://www.nevadamusic.co.uk/bass/bass-guitars/ibanez-sr400qm-tlb-bass-guitar--trans-lavender-burst?utm_source=google&utm_medium=GoogleShopping&utm_campaign=googlebase I've not noticed it being listed on the Ibanez's UK website, however, a few are appearing in some shops, obviously . Anyone had a go on one? I can't imagine that'd be much different from the rest of the SR range, but I find the active pre-amp quite interesting. I was looking at buying a P-bass until I saw this
15. The world is getting louder. I went to a gig a couple of months back, a small pub, the bass player seemed to be trying to use the 410/115 stack to maximum volume. It was actually making my ears hurt. Drummer and guitarist in my former band were both guilty of playing the volume war. Drummer had one volume, guitarist moaned he needed to turn his amp up because he couldn't hear himself or 'drive' it at lower volumes. THAT'S BECAUSE YOU'RE STOOD TOO CLOSE TO THE AMP AND IT'S TOO BIG IN THE FIRST PLACE YOU ARSE! That's what I felt like saying . At one gig they asked me to turn my amp up, I refused and told them to play quieter. Anyone would've thought I'd farted in their faces.
16. Apparently, as a general rule of thumb the human hearing range is from 20Hz to 20KHz. However, everyone is different. I can only hear up to 13KHz but the Mrs can hear up to 17.5KHz

18. COLDPLAY'S BASS PLAYER LEARNS A SCALE. as yet we're not sure which one.
19.
Ibanez soundgear sr300
I got one of them, and if you want new for 300 notes they're very good. I was listening to a recording of our last gig (recorded on an iPhone I think) and it sounded blooming lovely. I'd try the Yamaha RBX374 as well, which is about the same price. Squiers of course. Just try a load, new and second hand, and take your time.
20. Someone told me Steps are reforming --->coat.
21. The Westone Spectrum II, one of which I purchased in the early 90's, could in no way be regarded as a desirable budget instrument Simply awful.
22.
Thanks Stevie. The magnet is bloody huge and weighs a ton. Unsure of how to check for stiff suspension though.
Like with a car, both hands on one edge and make it bounce up and down
23.
No guilt. All good. Now you can get involved in something that really fires you up - and the experience with your now-previous band will stand you in good stead to make the right decisions
Cheers mate. As it happens (no Jimmy Saville impressions, stop it ) I met a drummer in t'pub this evening that I contacted a couple of days ago. That sounds rather seedy doesn't it... I digress, good bloke so who knows
