Leaving a band, without another band to go to. Yes or No?
Marvin replied to Marvin's topic in General Discussion
Well stone me! I wasn't expecting that! Although to be honest I'm not entirely surprised. OK, I'll tell Had a text from the guitarist this evening and he's jumped ship . That's that then. Thanks again everyone. EDIT: for schoolboy error -
Leaving a band, without another band to go to. Yes or No?
Marvin replied to Marvin's topic in General Discussion
I appear to have neglected my own thread It is difficult to turn your back on a band, sort of better the devil you know than the not having a devil at all. Finding a band is difficult enough, so sometimes we're inclined to try and make the best of a bad job. I've definitely found that whilst being in a band there seem to be more opportunities to form something new. Also I'm reluctant to be the one to make the first move, just looks like you're just a quitter. However, I've not been sitting around idly. I'm actively looking to put something new together. Quitting is just a question of when, and will be very much of my choosing Thanks -
I've read a couple of posts lately advising not to leave a band, even if it is a bad one, without having something else in place. Understandable advice, we all want to be out there strutting our stuff rather than being stuck trawling through JoinMyBand et al and the infinite number of 13yr old guitarists who only want to play Thrash and Doom. As someone who it would seem is about to jump ship, surely there comes a point where a band just doesn't work and you should walk away. In my case, band together 9 months. I've never been convinced we've 'worked' musically. We've only had four gigs, but 3 have been of what I consider a very low standard. After our last gig there was a very tense 'chat' about it and things were said, don't think I need go any further on that . Personally I was very annoyed to find out by chance that 2 members (our singer is off doing a mini tour with their other band) had cancelled practice this week and didn't have the manners to tell me. One of the reasons I've not jumped, is I read the posts about finding something else first....

Thanks Gary, certainly have a look. Cheers.

After moaning incessantly that we didn't practice enough at last week's rehearsal, I got this text, by chance I might add as I was asking a question about practice. "We weren't going to bother this week anyway" Even though our singer is off with her other band doing a mini tour I still would have thought they would want to put in some practice together, they bloody need it.

Guitarist: We'll do this one in B. Me: Ok, the original in is C, have you asked the singer about it? Guitarist: No, I prefer playing it in B. Me: Well, that's ok then. As long as you're comfortable. PILLOCK!
why is there no music like this any more..????????!!!!!!!!
Tastes and fashions change, that's all. There are many genres and bands that have fallen by the wayside.
how dare he have a positive state of mind.
He can be as positive as he wants to be...as long as he realises he's a lousy drummer

"Let's 'rock' it up". This I always take as a euphemism for "I can't play". Quite possibly the most over used and pointless statement used by cover's band members. "...we got away with that one" and "I'm quite relaxed about our performance, and thought it was really good in places. My friend in the audience said we were great". This was what an inadequate, ball achingly...I could go on, member of the band I play for, said after our last gig which was truly awful. The guy is deluded.

All the best.
Happy bunny.. Sorted everything out. Except for my wall hanger. I ordered it with the bass but it's nowhere to be found. Better give them a ring again tomorrow.
Excellent!
I think she is far more than bubby-gum pop..I think she can sing great and her tunes are a bit now for the market but this girl will not fade in 2 years with the talent she has, IMO. I can see no reason at all why she can't be a Major artist beyond pop singles.
I agree with you there. I think she's versatile enough as well to last out.

Damn it! Never was any good at guessing games

By no means an expert, but I'm up for having a wild stab in the dark. I'm going for a Framus.

Advice needed on my band - not sure to stick it out or not

If there is too much profanity in the following I apologise now, however, my levels of frustration have gone off the scale. A last minute booking, we got the call Tuesday. It was a small venue, which I thought would be ideal to test us without all the'gadgets' the band has been hiding behind. We arranged a support duo, as the pub wanted 3 hours of music. These 2 guys were very good. Original songs, acoustic guitar and electric bass. The bass lines were very tasteful and I really enjoyed watching Neil (the bassist) play. 9.45pm we 'go on'. What a f***ing shambles. We must have the most useless, ball achingly sh*t drummer nature gave drum sticks to. The guy is to f***ing crap! I could go on for the rest of the day ranting about him. After the 4th song my confidence went completely, all down to not knowing when the drummer was going to screw up, and my nerves kicked in hence I started making horrid mistakes. It was without doubt one of the worst 2hours of my life. I seriously considered refusing to perform the second set. I can't believe the unprofessional attitude either. Fine, were a pub covers band that do this as a hobby, BUT you have to have some degree of professional so you don't look a complete cock, surely? I am very seriously considering quitting. Singer has already said that if I quit she's going as well. Two reasons to stay, time invested and I'd feel rather bad given the amount of money the guitarist has put in - PA and other stuff. Only upside was I was very happy with my tone. The Ibanez sr/ Fender Rumble 350 combination worked really well. My bass really cut through, no boom and very clear.
Let's see what this goes for http://www.ebay.co.u...49#ht_2196wt_93
Sounds like Bullseye, "and here's what you could have won".
I still can't understand your decision mate, but I hope you love it.
Well I can't understand someone who sold two beautiful German Warwicks and bought a Fender which he then sold only a few months later That's life I suppose

They don't do a lot for me. If I were to buy a Fender it'd be a standard P or J.
