The only Behringer gear I've got any experience of is the monitor I have. It's alright, but I wouldn't recommend it.
1 x fretted 1 x fretless 1 x acoustic 1 x EUB ... er ... and another ... 1 x fretted ... ... so that is 1x1x1x1x1=1
That's brilliant. I have just one, at the moment. This may become two soon though.

As low as I can get it with as little fret buzz as possible, hopefully none. I couldn't play with a 'high' action.
You're very small... or are you just far away?
I'm very small The pics were taken on a mobile phone, they just pixelate if you blow them up, unfortunately or fortunately -
Hhmm, what can we say about my band's first gig. Loads of technical problems. The vocals weren't coming through the PA, I think it was found the mixing desk is knackered. And just what seemed an endless list of problems. All the tech side is the guitarists domain and tbh I think he's out of his depth, a little knowledge and all. He has a vast array of 'boxes' on his side, including the PA stuff. Most of it wasn't really needed. The drums for example had 5 mics on it, for the size of venue, way over the top. Major blunder with 'All Cried Out'. The guitarist has a detuning pedal. He'd detuned for 'Every breath..' and then forgot to tune back up for 'All Cried Out'. Sounded bloody awful. I thought for one moment my bass had screwed up or I was playing the wrong thing. I've only been playing for 2 years really, the guitarist for over 30. We (drummer, singer and myself) all become increasingly frustrated with the guitarist holding things up in between songs - changing guitar, mucking about with effects and . 3 songs from the end the drummer turned to me and said "Let's cut it short". However, we did finish the set and did two encore songs. Hopefully he will have noticed that for the last 3 songs where he ditched all the techy jiggery pockery, the audience really got into it. On the positive, the first set was quite good in the main and towards the end of it I was beginning get into it. Our singer is our trump card, even during a per longed bit where nothing happened she kept the audience on side. And the venue were very happy with us, so hopefully we shall get an invite back there - but I think we'll be taking less gear next time There's an autopsy on Thursday at the singer's house - bacon sandwiches and coffee:)

Personally I would go S/H for an American, or mod the Squier.

The Rumble is either particle board or MDF. It's definitely not Birch ply. Even being constructed in China I can't see them splashing out on ply. Having bought it (Baltic Birch ply) it's damned expensive.
Maybe try one of the Giraffe ones? The mechanism relies on a sprung bolt that secures the angle, quite sturdy but i wish there was one on the other side for peace of mind.
I considered it but I think I'll just leave it now. The mechanism on the Quiklok appeared sturdy but obviously not.
The best stand for a combo is an extension cab.
A bit expensive for my combo unfortunately as you can't use an extension cab with it Maybe some beer crates, old school.
-
I bought one of the Quikloks. Used it twice and it broke. Bolt the holds the side that tightens has sheared. I'm not very happy to be honest.
-
No, not a fraud. I'm very inexperienced, but have noticed a huge difference in how easy it is to 'fit' into a band depending on how you well you work with the drummer, or not. One drummer turned up to a rehearsal I attended, never met the guy before, but the first few hits of his kit I knew the next couple of hours would be easy and they were.

Until my mates wanted to start a band I never ever considered playing the bass. I always wanted to play guitar.
I think you could fix this by tweaking the truss rod either way, but it would be better to get the frets dressed. But this sort of buzz should only be audible acoustically - it shouldn't come through the amp. So it might be best to just live with it until you can get the frets properly sorted.
You're entirely right. I tried practising last night but found the action far too high for me, nearly unplayable. So tightened the truss rod so the neck is now substantially straighter and the buzzing hasn't returned. However, yes the frets will need to be dressed properly. I will get to this as soon as I can.

Just a wee update. Took the strings off, gave it a good clean and made sure the bridge was all tidy. Put the strings back on (always handy ). Loosened the truss rod slightly to give a little more relief and adjusted the saddles and intonation. Result = no more buzz (sorry Buzz, nothing personal ). The action is a little higher than I would like, but until I can get it to a guitar shop it'll be fine. Thanks again.
-
Thank you, both. I'll have a look later today and try and make some fine adjustments. Unfortunately I can't get to my nearest guitar shop for about 2 weeks. However, I'll dropping the bass in soon after to get it set up properly and sort a couple little niggles out.

When I play the C♯ on the E string (ie 9th fret) the string rattles and buzzes on the frets behind that note. If I fret C and C♯ it disappears, hence the string must be buzzing on the lower frets. I don't know whether I need to tweak the truss rod to straighten or put more relief in it. What I have noticed is that on other occasions when I've put more relief in the neck is that notes above the 12th fret start to choke a lot, so that option could be some what limited. Cheers
+ many. The practice HAS to be meaningful, targeted, or the hours are wasted. That's why I'm so bloody crap
Come and listen to me play then you'll know what crap sounds like Does reading a book on theory count towards practice? I suppose it doesn't really does it

Personally I think it needs a '51 headstock, that one just looks out of place. And I may have looked to modify the scratchplate in order that it 'met' up with the pups. Otherwise I like it. Probably wouldn't buy one though.
My view is now fixed on that I don't know much and wish I knew everything theory and reading wise, but I now dont have the time to learn it or at least believe that the time I'd spend would be better spent elsewhere, fortunately that still leaves me able to enjoy playing in covers bands, technically I maybe a faker or not a real musician, but I earned back £97 towards my gear this weekend engaging in hobby I'd shell out for with no chance of recovering it If i had my time again , I'd learn properly
I should imagine this covers quite a few of us on BC, it certainly includes me, apart from the earning £97 this weekend In total agreement with you.
-
I browse, quite a lot. However, I seem to live in the wrong part of the country as all the stuff I'm interested in is miles away (and I don't really trust couriers etc - I work for one ) I would rather buy from BC over other places. Oh yeah, I'm usually skint. Bloody skint now, just bought a stage monitor I didn't really want, I need it but don't want it *goes off in child like strop*

With regards to listening to 'challenging jazz', I've enough misery in my life without putting myself at the mercy of music that in the main makes my ears want to drop off.
-
I can touch type and it's not helped with regards playing bass one bit. Managed it in about 4 to 5 weeks. But as I say, hasn't helped at with my playing. Must be different muscles.
I think my favourite quote from a US forum post is.. MIM - Made in Mexico by Mexicans MIA - Made in America by Mexicans
Whilst chewing the fat with a local guitar shop owner, said guitar shop owner recanted an occasion when a young 6 string upstart walked into his emporium. Young upstart started eulogising about his dream Vintage Fender Strat. He then proceeded to enquire about the vibrant red Telecaster the owner had. It's made in Mexico he was told at which point the young upstart embarked on a small rant about only US Fenders were real Fenders. The owner then asked him who he thought Leo had build him his dream Strat, "I'll think you'll find Leo's factory was awash with Mexicans!". At which point they parted company.
