1. Thank you, both. I'll have a look later today and try and make some fine adjustments. Unfortunately I can't get to my nearest guitar shop for about 2 weeks. However, I'll dropping the bass in soon after to get it set up properly and sort a couple little niggles out.
 2. When I play the C♯ on the E string (ie 9th fret) the string rattles and buzzes on the frets behind that note. If I fret C and C♯ it disappears, hence the string must be buzzing on the lower frets. I don't know whether I need to tweak the truss rod to straighten or put more relief in it. What I have noticed is that on other occasions when I've put more relief in the neck is that notes above the 12th fret start to choke a lot, so that option could be some what limited. Cheers

That's why I'm so bloody crap
Come and listen to me play then you'll know what crap sounds like Does reading a book on theory count towards practice? I suppose it doesn't really does it
 4. Personally I think it needs a '51 headstock, that one just looks out of place. And I may have looked to modify the scratchplate in order that it 'met' up with the pups. Otherwise I like it. Probably wouldn't buy one though.
 5.
My view is now fixed on that I don't know much and wish I knew everything theory and reading wise, but I now dont have the time to learn it or at least believe that the time I'd spend would be better spent elsewhere, fortunately that still leaves me able to enjoy playing in covers bands, technically I maybe a faker or not a real musician, but I earned back £97 towards my gear this weekend engaging in hobby I'd shell out for with no chance of recovering it If i had my time again , I'd learn properly
I should imagine this covers quite a few of us on BC, it certainly includes me, apart from the earning £97 this weekend In total agreement with you.
 6. I browse, quite a lot. However, I seem to live in the wrong part of the country as all the stuff I'm interested in is miles away (and I don't really trust couriers etc - I work for one ) I would rather buy from BC over other places. Oh yeah, I'm usually skint. Bloody skint now, just bought a stage monitor I didn't really want, I need it but don't want it *goes off in child like strop*
 7. With regards to listening to 'challenging jazz', I've enough misery in my life without putting myself at the mercy of music that in the main makes my ears want to drop off.
 8. I can touch type and it's not helped with regards playing bass one bit. Managed it in about 4 to 5 weeks. But as I say, hasn't helped at with my playing. Must be different muscles.
 9.
I think my favourite quote from a US forum post is.. MIM - Made in Mexico by Mexicans MIA - Made in America by Mexicans
Whilst chewing the fat with a local guitar shop owner, said guitar shop owner recanted an occasion when a young 6 string upstart walked into his emporium. Young upstart started eulogising about his dream Vintage Fender Strat. He then proceeded to enquire about the vibrant red Telecaster the owner had. It's made in Mexico he was told at which point the young upstart embarked on a small rant about only US Fenders were real Fenders. The owner then asked him who he thought Leo had build him his dream Strat, "I'll think you'll find Leo's factory was awash with Mexicans!". At which point they parted company.

Since every room is different acoustically my settings are different in every room .

It depends on the amp, the bass, the room I'm in, the cab I am using, the state of my strings, effects pedals I am using and the type of music I am playing. On each of my amps the 'flat' settings produce entirely different sounds, so the whole thing turns into a 'how long is a piece of string?' debate. Sometimes you can get great sounds of amps that sound terrible (to me anyway) with everything in the twelve o'clock position or without any pre-shapes or eq settings (Ashdown/Trace Elliot). I think that the trick is spending time with the amp so you can work out what works and does not work for you. It is not a sin to alter the amp eq to get a sound you like, in fact that is what the knobs and sliders are generally there for. One of my amps sounds great with minimal eq boosts and without any pre-shapes, whereas the other requires some button pressing. I frankly don't care either way as they are totally different amps with different characteristics.
Both of these. Yes.

 12. I can't comment on the Marshall as I've never used one. I've got a Rumble 350. It sounds very good (when it's not in our rehearsal room - which we now refer to as the room of doom due to it's dreadful acoustics) and has quite a wide range of sounds. Lots of features. Is it loud? Yes. My drummer is quite loud (loudest I've come across) and my guitarist can crank it up. I haven't gigged it yet but at one rehearsal we were insanely loud and the volume dial wasn't even at 3. However, I don't know what it'll do at a gig but I've got some room to play with. The only thing I would like to have seen is the possibility to extend it with another cab. It's a good combo and I'm happy with what I got for my money.

 16. Damn! I thought you may have tabbed that song by Hue and Cry.
 17. Nice looking bass and a good price. Go for it myself but just haven't got the spare cash at the moment.

Bickershaw Festival, 1972... ...on the other hand, if you're redhead, I disown you outright...
No. She's never been that far north and has never uttered the name of Jerry Garcia
 19.
@Marvin... Where was your Mum in April, 1972..?
Could have been Bristol. Dad?

 23.
Allow me to help, once upon a time, televisions, or TVs as they are known colloquially used to use things called Valves, also known as Tubes (honestly, we should know these things, we are bass players) in order to work. Some people here are old enough to remember such things (not me, I am just historically minded enough to know pointless sh*t like this). Marvin was making a pun or play on words about this very real situation. It was mildly amusing </jokegeekmode>
Terribly kind of you to say it was mildly amusing, I doubt others would be so kind
