1.
Excellent, balaclava bass, I should try that, better than "Shiny Suit and Tie and big 80s slappy thumb" bass, which I am heartily sick of. Oh, and Northam, saturday night, in the Kingsley if you're interested Rich.
Nuts, I missed your post. Too late now, obviously All the best in Exeter with the new project.
 2.
If you have something to trade that's active, Jazz nut width and shallow neck profile, four strings, 24 frets, versatile, a bass I can use in the studio and live without embarrassment, try me.
That'll be a Warwick then Unfortunately I've no money to spend on gear at all (blown on a new, to me, car , hate cars, hate cars). Otherwise I'd actually quite like this. All the best with finding whatever it is your looking for
 3. Personally I've always thought this thread should be pinned, simply for post 37
 4. We need silddx, he's the authority on gloves 'round 'ere.
 5. 14 years earlier I could have stayed with my brother when he was at Redcatch Rd, a hop skip and a jump across Victoria Park and would have virtually been there. Back then he used to like to take breakfast at the Mud Dock Cycleworks. Have a good'n', work gets in the way again unfortunately. Cheers
 6. I like many are a faker, a big faker. I've little theory knowledge and as for reading it would take me ages to decipher a single page. I use tabs (mainly guitar pro transcripts) and fit them to the song I'm been tasked to learn. I've not the time to train my ear or learn more theory or read music. But then my aims are to simply gig around locally for fun and I'm currently having fun getting ready for those gigs. I regard my playing as very weak, there is a lot I can't do. Probably only really been playing properly for 12months however at the last practice my guitarist, a guy who's been in bands of one form or another for 30+years turned and said he really did like the way I played Ordinary World (rather ironic as I don't like Duran Duran ). There are simply masses of fakers out there all doing the same thing. Going back to basics may work. However, when I was not in a band I found it very difficult to motivate myself to learn for example more theory. The irony being that now I could do with it I've not got the time For me I suppose it's all about having something to aim for that has meaning and relevance to where I am.
 7.
Before considering an 8x10 consider how you'll get it to the gig. 300 watts is plenty, and a pair of 2x10 cabs makes for an easy to transport scalable rig.
Having spent hours myself researching heads and cabs I'd go with what Bill says, he does afterall make his living out of this area. If I remember correctly Bill would suggest stacking the 2x10's on top each other rather than side by side to give better dispersion. As an aside, has the suggested min head gone up on BC recently? When I first joined the forum, and as Bill has suggested an adequate amp was 300w. It now seems to be 500w. Is there a reason for this?
 8.
Beware of the trapdoor...
Under the stage, even better
 9. I'll tell the OP after we've done a gig
 10. Generally if there is a stage, just best to stand on it somewhere.
 11.
Cheers for that mate! They were so good, really looking forward to this. I get to play with a drummer I've always wanted to play with at this gig, Jim Chase. He's fantastic, he really and truly has a voice on the kit.
On many other forums to say you always wanted to play with someone would raise some eyebrows All the best mate, have a good'n.
 12. Um.............don't know, so probably not.
 13.
Last call! Soundcheck 16:00. Doors 19:00. On stage 21:00. I have my bass, some sandwiches and a spare pair of underpants.
Are they not providing you with any sandwiches at the venue? Teh! All the best.
 14. Another consideration is whether to learn metric or imperial scales. This has caused me great confusion when I get them mixed up.
 15.

16. All sounds very fishy to me.
 17.
Get on joinmyband and similar sites, explain your situation. If you're using practice rooms there's usually rig you can play through anyway, most important thing is to get out there and get playing, preferably with a decent drummer, good luck!!
Yes indeed. I've put a couple of ads on there and on Bandmix. I've been propositioned a number of times. Some I've I had to turn down I'm simply not that sort of bass player When I started in a band last year I only had a 35w practice amp, so used the rigs at practice rooms all the time, cost me about a quid I seem to remember.
 18. Set forth and find like minded individuals and enjoy the making of noise that is known as music. Do it, you'll love it. I'm crap and it hasn't put me off
 19. Sounds potentially dangerous. A bit of a chat Mrs Vader and go from there I'd say. Personally my wife and horrors come first and in the unlikely event that a band, let alone 3, I was in got that busy it was having a detrimental effect on my family I'd have to knock it on the head - of course this is easy to say now as I'm not faced with the situation but.... All the best
 20.
As soon as I am playing in a band I am not ashamed to be seen with, I will gladly put some gigs up here.
Well I shall endeavour to attend your next gig to determine what level of 'ashamedeness' you should be displaying There's not a cat in hells chance I'm putting up my band's gigs until I'm satisfied we don't look complete arses. If you hear of a bass player in a balaclava in north Devon that'll be me.
 21. I'm using a .73mm at the moment. I find playing with a pick isn't as easy as it's assumed to be, so tend to use my fingers if at all possible. I shall dip into this thread to pick up advice (pun very much intended).
 22.
So it should really be called a "gubbins-hider".
Brilliant. And what a fantastic word gubbins is.
 23.
I need to pretend I'm a cello sometimes.
Really? This is very worrying. Have you sought professional help?
 24. All the best with the gig. Really pissed the Exeter one was cancelled and unfortunately I can't make it to the Jazz Cafe (or The Fiddlers) My brother said he might pop along. Have a cracking good gig. Cheers
 25.
Some great suggestions here, which mostly focus on doing something. Perhaps you could try doing nothing. Take the pressure off for a while. I regularly put the bass down for a couple of weeks and do other things - not necessarily musically related. When I come back, I quite often play some stuff and think "Blimey, I didn't know I could do that." It's like the brain's being mulling things over in the background. The other advantage to doing nothing is it involves absolutely no investment of time, effort or money.
I found exactly this a few weeks. I'd been practising maybe up to 5 evenings out of 7 but then put the bass down for just over a week (not that long I know) and when I came back to it I felt really rather refreshed. Played a few riffs that I'd been struggling with and really nailed them. Another incentive is the Mrs says she's watching crumby soaps tonight, so I'll be practising.
