As my monitors go down to 40Hz, this... ACTIVE East - Bass almost fully boosted / treble rolled off / bright flat / mid flat 7. Neck ...rattled the windows something chronic. Nice!
Hmmm, you may need to consider some replacement windows. Have you considered our latest range of uPVC high security double glazed units, at a very competitive price. Sorry, flashback -
Most brilliant. Well done to you.
I think wanting to be heard and playing bass are not always the best of bed fellows, there are times where I find even the great players are just a bit too in your face, it's entirely personal, I would never denigrate because I can see the value. I don't care about being heard so much as felt... my big kick is getting folk on to the floor. Because I know they find the bass irresistible and I know that (mostly) they are not really aware of why. I dig that.
Another lovely post, as always a considered opinion. Have you ever considered the diplomatic service Jake?

I'll hold my hands up (which probably makes a better sound then when they're on a fretboard ), I actually enjoyed learning and playing a Duran Duran song tonight - Ordinary World. (Not completely there, always takes me a while to get it completely). I've never liked Duran Duran, just not my thing, but I'll give what's his name - John Taylor? - his dues, he does create a nice bass line. This one may not be his best, and I'm probably way off the original (close enough though) but I've actually had to force myself not to have another go at it. I especially like the little fills. That is all. On your way now
I played in a band last year in north devon mainly in the bideford/barnstaple area. There are some awesome players around there. If your into the blues then get down to the palladium jam night in Bideford on tuesday nights. Tis a brilliant place for networking. Theres alot of blues that gets played that night.
I do believe you were in The Gang of Thieves Saw you step up and play a couple of tunes with them at the Globe in Torrington on NYE's didn't I? One was a Micheal Jackson song, name of which evades me. You are a very funky and talented bassist. All the best to you sir.

Just rang Stu at Bideford (he's now Bideford Bay Guitars). Remember I've been to his shop before and he is an absolute top bloke - my stupid forgetfulness. When I take it down he'll try and diagnose what's wrong with it with me there, for free, then give me an idea of cost and time. I'm feeling a lot happier. Thanks guys
Marv, try Big Stu in Bideford, up in Grenville St, can't remember what he's calling his shop these days, might be Bideford Bay Guitars, might be Atlantic, either way he's a top bloke, known him ages, he should be able to fix it fairly quick, he might have a generic part lying about to sort it with as well. I've never done active electronics otherwise I'd say come over to mine and we'll have a cup of tea and play with a soldering iron. Get something passive next time
Cheers Dave. Yes, it might be time to trade in for a passive. Something Fender shaped and easy to repair.
Before you take it in, it's not something daft like the knob grubscrew has come loose and you're turning the knob but not the pot shaft..?
Unfortunately not, I removed the grub screw and knob last night just to make sure and it wasn't that. Took the back plate off as well to peer inside to make sure there weren't any obvious loose wires. Didn't seem to be, but it's a mass of coloured wires in there so it's difficult to tell. Electronics aren't my thing at all
-
Yes, the SR300 is an active bass. The battery is fine, unfortunately. Bombed it with Servisol to no avail. Looks like a trip to a repairer, if it needs parts hopefully Ibanez will be quicker than the 6 weeks it took to send a battery compartment last year.
-
Found last night that the treble on my bass -Ibanez SR300- isn't working at all. I don't know if it's a wiring issue or just the pot. For anyone who isn't familiar with this bass, the treble control sits on top the bass ie concentric or stacked. Anyone know of a good guitar repairer in North Devon/Devon? or Are there any alternatives? By that I mean maybe replacing the Ibanez pots and eq electronics with a different brand (and maybe the pups)
Really? I didn't think it's been legal to supply electrical equipment to the UK without a proper UK 13 amp plug fitted for quite a few years now.
I bought an amp from an online retailer just after christmas and it came with a two pin lead. They were very good though and I got a 3 pin as soon as possible. But I did think it odd.
Sounds to me like her drum tutor has done her a great disservice at the expense of her confidence and wasted your time as well...
I'd agree. Nicely handled. Perhaps a diplomatic word with the tutor?
What would be the point? You'd have the skanky Fender rubbish in the way.
How dare you take Mr Delvar's name in vein. -
Thanks. It was more out of hope than anything. I've been looking at a CV P-bass for a while now

Just chucking a thought around. Pondering getting a Precision style bass, but would also like it to be active if I were to get one. Are there any in the budget* price range? *I suppose budget would be around £250

The band I'm with are just getting the set list together so aiming to practice once a week. I only joined 5 weeks ago and we've practiced 4 times so everything is fairly together. I should imagine if the set list is relatively stable then once we're gigging and happy practices may become less frequent.

I'm afraid I wouldn't have a clue what makes his tone, but Brass in Pocket came on the radio yesterday and I too thought what a great sound. Nice bass line as well.
Yep - I've never heard anyone doing a Police cover either, which is odd as they were a big part of 80s/90s music. We're working on Message in a Bottle and Every Little Thing at the moment.
Band I'm with are currently working on Roxanne and Every Breath. I was considering suggesting Spirits in a material world. We did Roxanne for the first time last night at practice. The most difficult part seems to be just timing that first note on the verses. The drummer isn't too sure about the song so everything is a little hesitant.

I don't think not wanting to play certain songs has anything to do with snobbery. It's more to do with not wanting to play/murder/get bored/become suicidal over songs that have plagued clubs and pubs for nearly half a century. From what I saw on NYE's it's only women of a certain age and of a certain alcohol intake that dance to these supposed standards. It's not about wanting to play obscure stuff to 'educate' punters. I left a band after half a dozen practices as they were insistent on playing All Right Now. Why? Have some imagination. Give the audience some credit. Play popular but not obvious. I also think it's somewhat lazy of supposedly self professed 'good musicians' to be playing predictable sets I see a lot of them around my way. One guy around my way thinks he's a great performer and said to me one night "we do All Right Now but give it our own spin". Yeah, he f@cking murders it and it sounds dreadful, because it is a good song unfortunately massacred by 40 years of weekend warriors.
