1.
Marv, try Big Stu in Bideford, up in Grenville St, can't remember what he's calling his shop these days, might be Bideford Bay Guitars, might be Atlantic, either way he's a top bloke, known him ages, he should be able to fix it fairly quick, he might have a generic part lying about to sort it with as well. I've never done active electronics otherwise I'd say come over to mine and we'll have a cup of tea and play with a soldering iron. Get something passive next time
Cheers Dave. Yes, it might be time to trade in for a passive. Something Fender shaped and easy to repair.
 2.
Before you take it in, it's not something daft like the knob grubscrew has come loose and you're turning the knob but not the pot shaft..?
Unfortunately not, I removed the grub screw and knob last night just to make sure and it wasn't that. Took the back plate off as well to peer inside to make sure there weren't any obvious loose wires. Didn't seem to be, but it's a mass of coloured wires in there so it's difficult to tell. Electronics aren't my thing at all
 3. Yes, the SR300 is an active bass. The battery is fine, unfortunately. Bombed it with Servisol to no avail. Looks like a trip to a repairer, if it needs parts hopefully Ibanez will be quicker than the 6 weeks it took to send a battery compartment last year.
 4. Found last night that the treble on my bass -Ibanez SR300- isn't working at all. I don't know if it's a wiring issue or just the pot. For anyone who isn't familiar with this bass, the treble control sits on top the bass ie concentric or stacked. Anyone know of a good guitar repairer in North Devon/Devon? or Are there any alternatives? By that I mean maybe replacing the Ibanez pots and eq electronics with a different brand (and maybe the pups)
 5.
Really? I didn't think it's been legal to supply electrical equipment to the UK without a proper UK 13 amp plug fitted for quite a few years now.
I bought an amp from an online retailer just after christmas and it came with a two pin lead. They were very good though and I got a 3 pin as soon as possible. But I did think it odd.
 6.
my name is B5 and im a BassChatoholic
You have taken the first step to recovery by admitting your problem. Personally I never spend much time on here I'm far too busy badger farming.
 7.
Sounds to me like her drum tutor has done her a great disservice at the expense of her confidence and wasted your time as well...
I'd agree. Nicely handled. Perhaps a diplomatic word with the tutor?
 8.
What would be the point? You'd have the skanky Fender rubbish in the way.
How dare you take Mr Delvar's name in vein.
 9. Thanks. It was more out of hope than anything. I've been looking at a CV P-bass for a while now
 10. Just chucking a thought around. Pondering getting a Precision style bass, but would also like it to be active if I were to get one. Are there any in the budget* price range? *I suppose budget would be around £250
 11. The band I'm with are just getting the set list together so aiming to practice once a week. I only joined 5 weeks ago and we've practiced 4 times so everything is fairly together. I should imagine if the set list is relatively stable then once we're gigging and happy practices may become less frequent.
 12. I'm afraid I wouldn't have a clue what makes his tone, but Brass in Pocket came on the radio yesterday and I too thought what a great sound. Nice bass line as well.
 13.
Yep - I've never heard anyone doing a Police cover either, which is odd as they were a big part of 80s/90s music. We're working on Message in a Bottle and Every Little Thing at the moment.
Band I'm with are currently working on Roxanne and Every Breath. I was considering suggesting Spirits in a material world. We did Roxanne for the first time last night at practice. The most difficult part seems to be just timing that first note on the verses. The drummer isn't too sure about the song so everything is a little hesitant.
 14. I don't think not wanting to play certain songs has anything to do with snobbery. It's more to do with not wanting to play/murder/get bored/become suicidal over songs that have plagued clubs and pubs for nearly half a century. From what I saw on NYE's it's only women of a certain age and of a certain alcohol intake that dance to these supposed standards. It's not about wanting to play obscure stuff to 'educate' punters. I left a band after half a dozen practices as they were insistent on playing All Right Now. Why? Have some imagination. Give the audience some credit. Play popular but not obvious. I also think it's somewhat lazy of supposedly self professed 'good musicians' to be playing predictable sets I see a lot of them around my way. One guy around my way thinks he's a great performer and said to me one night "we do All Right Now but give it our own spin". Yeah, he f@cking murders it and it sounds dreadful, because it is a good song unfortunately massacred by 40 years of weekend warriors.
 15. I've never really figured out why all covers bands play the same set list. Just seems daft. Play good songs well. I am a hypocrite btw - band I'm practising with has Summer of '69 and Sex on Fire in it's set list
 16.
I'm guessing an itchy jumper with pockets
I hope not! Home knitwear and rock bands?
 17. Mrs Marvin has assured me she has a brilliant idea. I do fear however that she will be knitting the prototype.
 18.
Wedge it firmly in your cleavage
Unfortunately for me that takes the issue back to my.......rear end and as I've established quite unsuitable "D
 19.
+1000 to all of these. Bill's designs are fantastic and it's really satisfying. I think Discreet has a brilliant build thread that ended with one of the best looking cabs I've ever seen.
Discreet's build looks fantastic, here it is Jack 12 I tried making a Jack 10 but wasn't happy with it so binned the project. Others said it was fine but I'm a bit of an obsessive and decided to move on. I must be honest although I've done a fair bit of woodwork in the past, bookcases, cupboards and the like, I didn't find the Jack particularly easy due to the angled cuts. I like the look of those fEARFUL cabs. Might have a crack at one of those.
 20.
That's blown it Nige
Well said. It's all very unbasschat like as well. Pull yourself together Nigel.
 21.
Dakota. There are some root-note songs that I find enjoyable - She Sells Sanctuary is almost all root but it's full of energy. Rocky Mountain Way is one of those locking in to the drummer songs. But Dakota is just tedious.
Tedious to the point that at a practice just before christmas I played A all the way through the chorus. My mind had drifted so much I forget to play the E.
 22.
Already done. And they're bloody good straps and worth the money LOOK HERE
Shame, I thought we might have a 'Dragon's Den' moment there
 23. Perhaps I should buy a new bass that has a pickguard
 24.
A pick pouch on a guitar strap?
If that isn't already patented I'd get onto it
 25.
I normally either keep it in my mouth haha or in a back pocket simply because they are easy access!
I finished with that habit a couple of weeks ago at a practice night. I was 'moving' the pick around my mouth and nearly choked on it I've now stopped.
