Although I will admit I'm easily pleased. You can never have too much Gaffa tape, too many spare strings or 9v batteries. But it is a very personal thing so I tend to ask my wife for specifics or I end up with some very nice well meant things but I would have bought different ones. So maybe I'm not that easily pleased
That'll teach me to remain logged and leave the computer unattended To her credited Mrs M did buy me my ZoomB2.1u which was very nice of her - useful but not essential : Gaffa tape maybe an idea. Mrs M has been mixing with a basschat member on FaceBook - she may be a bad influence, you know who you are
 2.
Be very careful here. If the wife is asking, the essential number of basses is n+1 where n is the number of basses you currently own. 'A bass and an amp and a few leads' is going to leave you seriously under-equipped. At the very least the answer should be an entire cupboard full of kit, possibly leaning towards a room full of kit. It is not necessary for you to explain what any of that kit does, how often you use it (if ever), or even if it is necessarily essential. All she needs to know is ALL that kit is what you NEED and if possible you need a bit more space for expansion. She's not planning on extending your family is she?
She (meaning me!) reads these from time to time No I'm not planning on extending the family! I was just curious (ok nosey) and Mr M didn't think many would reply. Plus I need some ideas of what 'bits and pieces' I can get him for b'day, christmas etc etc. ( oh I also know what most of the 'stuff' does generally ) Mrs Marvin xx
 3. I'm not particularly interested but the wife asked besides the obvious bass itself, an amp and a lead what are the essential bits of kit? Mine, probably my gig bag (I don't like my bass getting damaged) and my iPod. The iPod for practicing songs. It's a boring thread so if you're not interested don't feel obliged.
Hi Basschatters! A few messages for everyone. First of all, I am moving house as of tomorrow so will not have internet except for on my mobile for a few weeks. We are trying to get Virgin Broadband but the line doesn't extend to our house so we are having to look at having it extended or look at other options. In the meantime please contact me by email (by using the button in my profile page) rather than sending a PM. Secondly, the 'Ask An Expert' forums will be closing in a few weeks, to simplify the affiliation and advertising rules. The threads in each of those forums will be moved to their appropriate sections. DHA and Alexclaber will still be about but probably in the 'Amps and Cabs' or 'Repairs' areas and they will be operating on a non commercial basis (unless they post in the affiliates marketplace area). The final thing is that we have been saving up and will soon be upgrading to a new version of the software which we use on this forum. There are lots of benefits and it should bring BC into 2011 with a fresh new look and advanced functionality. Crazykiwi is managing the changeover as I'm absent so please direct any questions to him. See you in a few weeks and keep it low ped and Nellie
As long as this new software isn't like when supermarkets move all the stuff on aisles about and you can't find your fav nibbles anymore:) Yes I am a grump All the best with the move and stuff and other. Cheers
 5.
My first bass was made from wood. From the Ply Tree. Jon.
They only grow on the banks of the mouth of the River Ply hence the name. All real genuine plywood comes from Plymouth, it's a well known fact.
 6.
Whoa - what? Where does cheese come from then? Eh?
Supermarkets? And no Wayne, at no point in my life have I ever thought a bass or any guitar was made of plastic.
 7.
Queen crazy little thing called love. G'N'R #Sweet child Beatles Day tripper Specially for Marvin Greenday Holiday
I cracked it last night at practice, it's all about the rhythm, apparently
 8. Welcome back. I never frequented bassworld A very fine collection. Could you delete the pic of the white jazz please? It's giving me terrible GAS pains
 9.
I got my stand from Lidl, Sturdy and it folds. I am such a cheapskate.
No, you are simply careful. Which is very important in these uncertain times
 10.
The root notes to the chorus are .. not sure what the actual chords are as I just learned the line by ear D / B / A / F* G / B / A / F* G / E / F* Nothing odd about the timing all straight 4/4 Its the same as the verse except you add another root note (and they are muted slightly) and still play another note (lower 5th?) on beat 3 Listen to it over and over and it will come, or wait for someone who can put it down into words or dots better than me
Thanks, that works. I've worked around those roots and it sounds very close to the recording, and far more accurate than the two tabs I found. I'm a lot happier with it now. Thanks again.
 11. Any more than 4 would melt my addled brain.
 12. Perhaps it's just fashion then. Warwicks may be like the Alfa Romeos of the bass world. Adored by those who love them, worth p1ss all to those who don't. That's not a particularly good analogy as one is very reliable and the other isn't. Whoops!
 13.
i just learned this for a set, which bit are you unsure of ?
Just the chorus. Perhaps I've not got the feel right yet.
 14.
But I want a Jap Fender RI with a B&B neck. I can't understand why. I have wanted one for ages. I got a bonus at work and to my huge surprise and deep disappointment my normally faultless car ate it all in the MOT last month. All my cash went towards it, so the Wicks are going. I know what I'm like, I will probably sell the Fender in six months time. Fickle f***er, that's me. My dream is to have a lifelong relationship with a bass, but I doubt whether it is possible with my personality :*(
So basically you have issues with commitment. Men! You're all the same. Have you considered relationship counselling?
 15. NIGEL, DO NOT SELL THE WARWICKS! YOU'VE BEEN HERE BEFORE. IT'S JUST GAS AND IT WILL SUBSIDE. YOU ARE BEING A TOOL! Is that alright? I seem to remember you buying a Pat something jazz bass not so long ago, but then picked up the black corvette and fell in love with it again and subsequently sold the Jazz, says a lot. I haven't a clue why secondhand Warwicks command so little. Especially as they're going for less than brand new Rockbasses, which although good aren't German made Warwicks. Maybe sell the fretless if you don't play it much, but not the black one. I'm in danger of rambling, I'll stop
 16. Hmm, it's not particularly pretty to play. Although I do like the song itself I'm not mad keen on playing it.
 17.
Any advise? Cheers mike
Either of the two below. Two top blokes selling lovely instruments for just giveaway prices. I'd personally love that white Warwick but for two things, most importantly I've got neigh money, and second I'm not too hot on a fretless . It's gorgeous, just look at it it's just, just, just
I think I am going to have to part with my active German Warwick Corvette Standard fretless to be honest as I am after a decent Fender Jazz. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...amp;hl=DR+Neons It's a beauty with a tiger-stripe ebony fingerboard. I refinished it in white though, it not a bad finish but not perfect, although it's got a good shine and the wood grain is visible through the paint, as I wanted it to be. Otherwise perfect. I bought it new for £749 from Thomann about 18 months ago, last of the Germans. Plays like a dream and sounds massive, lovely fretless tones. Fender Geddy Lee-like neck. Ash body, Ovankol neck. I'll be sad to see her go but hey, I don't play it much and I am GASing for a Jap Fender. I'll be happy with £350 if you're interested. Cheers, and good luck with your hunt. Nigel

I would have to agree with these very wise words from a very wise talented clever fellow basschat member who is always right, buy my Fender CIJ Fretless Jazz that I have for sale Oh look, I have even provided a link http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=118889
18. It's ok, scratch it. I'm sort of there. Thanks
 19. There are only a few, but the fills in Rebel Yell. I just can't play well enough to fit them in.
 20. I can't work out the chorus bit for One Way or Another by Blondie. All the stuff on the internet seems out to me or missing a bar Can anyone help please?
 21.
Exactly the same experience with Holiday - Green Day are a very deceptive band. Their stuff sounds so easy, but getting the exact feel is a lot more difficult than it sounds.

I was asked to cover Basket Case and American Idiot for a lad at a jam session and picked those up easily enough. I was noodling around at home and thought I'd have a go at Holiday just to see if the same lad might want a crack at that. Totally different experience, took me about 2 full nights of 'shedding' to get it reasonably right - and I've never been asked to play it for real! I started another thread about When I Come Around (as I've now been asked to cover that for someone else at the same jam session). That one's proving a bit tricky as well.
I'd put my problems down to just not being very good, but sometimes it's just finding the feel. And you don't know how relieved I am that others have found this one tricky to crack.
Holiday I thought was alright. Monkey wrench we once tried it and failed miserably. I of course got the blame I still reckon the drummer was over complicating the thing.
So you can play Holiday. But you said you were the worst bass player on the forum
 22. Is it only D'Addario that do the coloured ball ends (<---that's just waiting for a joke )
 23. Just did it to me. It's a bit weird. Can nothing be done? Has someone had the basschat bonet up and been tinkering where they shouldn't? You naughty person you know who you are, out with you, name and shame
 24. This might have been done not so long ago, I can't remember But. Holiday by GreenDay. Why is this song giving me so much trouble? It's not difficult. Is it? Perhaps I've just not the 'feel' for it but I seem to balls up that catchy bass bit - that's right the really simple sounding bit. Ever had one them yourself? Come and join the shame
 25. I've gone for the Hercules Mini. Thanks for all the advice and help. The Hercules does exactly what I want from it. It's not for permanent use but while practicing and gigging (when that eventually happens). Hence I wanted something that folded down as small as possible, it does that, and that is obviously stable. The bass I've got isn't asymmetric so it sits well in the Hercules and it doesn't seem to suffer any problems regards stability so I'm very happy. Thanks again
