1.
Any advise? Cheers mike
Either of the two below. Two top blokes selling lovely instruments for just giveaway prices. I'd personally love that white Warwick but for two things, most importantly I've got neigh money, and second I'm not too hot on a fretless . It's gorgeous, just look at it it's just, just, just
I think I am going to have to part with my active German Warwick Corvette Standard fretless to be honest as I am after a decent Fender Jazz. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...amp;hl=DR+Neons It's a beauty with a tiger-stripe ebony fingerboard. I refinished it in white though, it not a bad finish but not perfect, although it's got a good shine and the wood grain is visible through the paint, as I wanted it to be. Otherwise perfect. I bought it new for £749 from Thomann about 18 months ago, last of the Germans. Plays like a dream and sounds massive, lovely fretless tones. Fender Geddy Lee-like neck. Ash body, Ovankol neck. I'll be sad to see her go but hey, I don't play it much and I am GASing for a Jap Fender. I'll be happy with £350 if you're interested. Cheers, and good luck with your hunt. Nigel

I would have to agree with these very wise words from a very wise talented clever fellow basschat member who is always right, buy my Fender CIJ Fretless Jazz that I have for sale Oh look, I have even provided a link http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=118889
2. There are only a few, but the fills in Rebel Yell. I just can't play well enough to fit them in.
3. I can't work out the chorus bit for One Way or Another by Blondie. All the stuff on the internet seems out to me or missing a bar Can anyone help please?
4.
Exactly the same experience with Holiday - Green Day are a very deceptive band. Their stuff sounds so easy, but getting the exact feel is a lot more difficult than it sounds.

I was asked to cover Basket Case and American Idiot for a lad at a jam session and picked those up easily enough. I was noodling around at home and thought I'd have a go at Holiday just to see if the same lad might want a crack at that. Totally different experience, took me about 2 full nights of 'shedding' to get it reasonably right - and I've never been asked to play it for real! I started another thread about When I Come Around (as I've now been asked to cover that for someone else at the same jam session). That one's proving a bit tricky as well.
I'd put my problems down to just not being very good, but sometimes it's just finding the feel. And you don't know how relieved I am that others have found this one tricky to crack.
Holiday I thought was alright. Monkey wrench we once tried it and failed miserably. I of course got the blame I still reckon the drummer was over complicating the thing.
So you can play Holiday. But you said you were the worst bass player on the forum
5. Is it only D'Addario that do the coloured ball ends (<---that's just waiting for a joke )
6. Just did it to me. It's a bit weird. Can nothing be done? Has someone had the basschat bonet up and been tinkering where they shouldn't? You naughty person you know who you are, out with you, name and shame
7. This might have been done not so long ago, I can't remember But. Holiday by GreenDay. Why is this song giving me so much trouble? It's not difficult. Is it? Perhaps I've just not the 'feel' for it but I seem to balls up that catchy bass bit - that's right the really simple sounding bit. Ever had one them yourself? Come and join the shame
8. I've gone for the Hercules Mini. Thanks for all the advice and help. The Hercules does exactly what I want from it. It's not for permanent use but while practicing and gigging (when that eventually happens). Hence I wanted something that folded down as small as possible, it does that, and that is obviously stable. The bass I've got isn't asymmetric so it sits well in the Hercules and it doesn't seem to suffer any problems regards stability so I'm very happy. Thanks again
9.
What, like Kingsmill?
10. Early days yet but the guitarist I'm practising with currently seems a decent bloke. When we had finished practicing last week he kindly said 'any songs you get stuck on just give us a phone and we'll try work out how to approach it'. He has one bug bear and that's people who mess him about, but I'm inclined to be like that. Guitarists in my previous venture were decent enough blokes, just wanted to play some rather cliched songs.
11. I now of a bass player in a friend's band who uses a PL100 Linebacker and swears by it. Yes, swears by it not at it
12. Just had a little go at that riff for the verse, is a bit a nobbly one, especially given the speed. Easier with a pick (but I can pull it off with my fingers - much to my surprise I must say) and I needed to move it up the fretboard, playing the F on the 8th fret of the A. I found it a lot easier to play up around the dusty frets I don't often use Root notes Wayne? I must say I'm a little disappointed with you . Although I let you go as it was the gig where the band formed at 6 and started gigging at 7? I might add I'm probably the worst player on the forum so ignore anything I say
13.
Aye, but you`ve got to admit, it`s quite funny when they collapse of oxygen stavation to what little brain they have. Jez
I shall observe with interest on Thursday when I go and practice Best of You with the others For my part, it's quite enjoyable to play.
14. All the best, I've got to sit down and learn Best of You before Thursday's practice (and 4 others).
15. Have a bump for being so bloody 'bass fickle' Wish I could have it but I've blown all my booty on an amp, so my GAS fund is at zero. All the best.
16. Depends on the song. Although I'm not that good at either and probably weakest with a pick.
17. Thanks, a great help. I didn't think I was that tone deaf Handy to know it's in Cmin. Perhaps I subliminally knew that Probably not though. Thanks again.
18. Forgive me in advance. Do the chords for this Nickleback song go - basically Verse - C,F,Bb,Eb Chorus - C,Eb,Bb,F Some of the chord sites suggest Verse - C,F,Bb,Ab But the Ab sounds completely wrong to me. Am I right or do you think I should visit the GP's and get my hearing tested? Thanks EDIT: I've used flats rather than sharps as I can't be bothered to go find it in the 'symbols' menu as there isn't one on my keyboard.
19.
I hope I never have to play this song again. Anything else by Free, sure. Just not this! Please not this!!
I agree almost entirely, I'd just add Wishing Well too. Why don't people play Songs of Yesterday or something? They did 7 albums!
20. The recurring comment is definitely stamina and I think that and that he plays the line seemingly spot on every time is what makes them, maybe not difficult, but not as easy as some to really nail.
21. Marvin

Gig Amp

They may not be all the rage, but there are those who use them on BC who really rate them.
22. I left a band after just a handful of rehearsals at the end of last year when they were adamant it was on the set list. I really like Free but just point blank refuse to play the song. On the 2 occasions, I might add in the privacy of my own home, I've played along to it, I've fretted the A after the high notes. The reason? Muting, simple as that. Saw a guy on NYE's play it, shall we say very differently. The A,E,Gb he played up around the 7th fret then climbed to the higher frets. Sounded lousy to me as he somewhat missed the point of the contrast created by going up 2 octaves. He also missed out the other little fills and the chromatic climb. Damned amateur
23. It's not a particularly serious question. However, up until just before christmas I was practicing with a band whose set list was straight forward and shall we say pedestrian for the bass player Suffice to say technically speaking you could work the bass line out in a matter of seconds eg. Stereophonics and Undertones. and even if you got bored and forgot to change it didn't really matter. A band I'm trying to get into want to do a couple of Muse tracks and although they're not the most difficult in the world I do feel there's less margin for error. Last night I was going through Time is running out, which I thoroughly enjoyed learning, but you can't be lazy and drop notes given the bass is the only instrument playing at times. I will add it takes me ages to learn songs. For some reason it takes an inordinate amount of time for the information to bed itself in my brain I shall not be even considering to attempt Hysteria, I don't think my left hand could cope.
24. All far too complicated for a yokel like me. I'm still struggling to figure out how to put new batteries in this 'ere wireless mouse. Is it me or do wireless mice just look wrong? Having no wire their tail isn't there
