1. Well I'm very naughty and bite mine so I haven't a clue
2. Yes! Please bring back brow. I miss the little fella
3. Like it a lot. All the best.
4. That's damned good stuff mate. Like it a lot.
5.
Personally I really like the headstocks, compact and do the job they've got to do. I don't like classic Fender headstocks on a bass - way too big for what they do although they too do what they have to do.
Totally agree with you on that one. I only own one bass, it's an SR300. Does the job as far as I'm concerned. I find it really comfortable to play and can get all sorts of sounds out it. And the compact headstock is a very nice design feature - I love it!
6.
I'm glad you're actually building something now after what you put in my bass build thread. It's a fun experience. I built a speaker cab too. It turned out pretty crap, mind but that's only because the teacher forced me to use completely the wrong sort of wood for the back lol.
Thanks EH.
Hehe, it's funny, initially, I wanted this bass to cost me very little. I though I could scavenge the Rockbass, get the body for low cost and put it together. But as I lived with the idea for a couple of months while the body was being made, my aspirations rose rather steeply and so did the cost. It was a completely runaway reaction, nothing I could do about it Have you got a build thread for your cab mate?
No build thread yet. I'm having to build it in my father-in-law's garage, I simply haven't got anywhere at home I can make that amount of mess So it's taking a bit of time getting anything done (so far it's just a few bits cut out unfortunately). When I've made some headway I'll get one up and running, assuming it goes to plan. As soon as that bass has orange strings on it you MUST post pics on here
7.
Possibly rashly (given my damaged left hand), I took my DB along and did the whole gig with it. My first ever DB gig! We played for just under an hour and got a fantastic audience reaction. Really chuffed
Excellent mate.
8. I'm not a very good player, but 6 weeks is a looooooooong time in anyone's book, especially if it's straightforward. I had first practice last night, and I know for a fact that the other member of the rhythm section didn't put in much practice before hand. Must admit it threw me a little.
9. Certainly does surprise one how much a self build can actually cost. I'm currently slowly, and I stress slowly, building a BFM Jack10 - uh pay attention OP I know it's a cab but you know - and initially and naively I thought "this will come in well under £200, say £160". How wrong. It'll probably be around the £270ish mark. But like yourself silddx I want the best, so I've gone for the Baltic Birch ply as suggested which isn't cheap and I'll put the premium driver in. Just wish I had the time to get it finished quicker. As an aside, when we list down the cost of individual bits of a build why does it never look like it'll come out to as much as it actually does. Your list of parts for instance does look at first glance as if it would come out to over £1000. Looks like a quality job mate. Be chuffed you deserve to be.
10. All of the ones suggested so far by potential band members, even the one I chose. Most of it's quaver, quaver, quaver. And I'm not referring to the crisp snack. I just get lost and forget when the changes are
11. Live for the moment! Learn what you want to learn. Learning is good but if you ain't got the time then don't worry. I can't read a note, but I'm also a sh*te bass player so that doesn't say much Oh yes almost forgot +1 to what silddx said.
12. Thanks Paul, I thought I was going bloody mad.
13. Just one of a dozen songs I need to know by tomorrow. I thought I had it but every time I practice against the original it doesn't sound right. I'm playing E,C,G,Fsharp. The C and G sound out to my ears. (sharp I think) I've tuned my bass against two different tuners and they're saying I'm bang on.
14. Depends on the band. However, no one I know who plays, and are in bands, can read the squiggles and it doesn't stop them performing some top notch entertainment.
15.
Sorry guys my fault
16. I may be talking rubbish but it's a bit harder work with only one guitarist. People can actually hear you and with my playing that's the last thing people need. Best for me if I'm hidden a little.
17.
If you've seen the hoppers these companies use, you might be wondering how anything arrives in one piece. Of course you need a well padded cardboard box with some bubble wrap.
Yes yes and yes. You need a padded box to put it in. As silddx highlights, courier companies aren't particularly precious with precious things, in part due to the fact they rush around like crazed idiots (that's not a criticism of them, just pointing out they've got a shed load of work to do in not a lot of time - old colleague of mine has just joined a major courier and is in some shell shock at the work load) Putting fragile and handle with care helps a little but proper packing is the way.
18. When are you giving up the day job and going into production with these babies then? Good work, looks the business.
19. I'm going to use him all the time.
20. Marvin

YES

I feel I've been misled here. The thread title was so positive and then........
21. Excellent! I can use up some of those plasterboard screws I've got.
22. Who are Renaissance Clarky? Please tell me and put me out of my misery No, it's alright I'll google.
23.
Please don't compare the mighty Rush to Level 42 again. I find it offensive.
Rush haven't been the band they were since Mark King left
24. All Along the Watchtower? - very tedious, need to fruit it up a bit All or nothing - Small Faces New Sensation - INXS Down on the Corner - CCR Message in a bottle - The Police I don't like to stretch myself
25. Is the bottom simply glued to the throat assembly and horn panel or did you use screws as well?
