If you've seen the hoppers these companies use, you might be wondering how anything arrives in one piece. Of course you need a well padded cardboard box with some bubble wrap.
Yes yes and yes. You need a padded box to put it in. As silddx highlights, courier companies aren't particularly precious with precious things, in part due to the fact they rush around like crazed idiots (that's not a criticism of them, just pointing out they've got a shed load of work to do in not a lot of time - old colleague of mine has just joined a major courier and is in some shell shock at the work load) Putting fragile and handle with care helps a little but proper packing is the way.

When are you giving up the day job and going into production with these babies then? Good work, looks the business.

I'm going to use him all the time.

I feel I've been misled here. The thread title was so positive and then........

Excellent! I can use up some of those plasterboard screws I've got.
Please don't compare the mighty Rush to Level 42 again. I find it offensive.
Rush haven't been the band they were since Mark King left

Is the bottom simply glued to the throat assembly and horn panel or did you use screws as well?
Thanks mate, no pressure then or anything.
No, no pressure at all, just get on with the building Got a new idea about sleds, I'll mail you.
You are not the only one that wants to know. Time for some action and some documentary photos Marvin.
I don't think we should hijack discreet's build thread Suffice to say I have a top, a bottom, 2 sides, 2 throat panels and a baffle. The only photos I have are of me making a sled The sled was no good, I thought I had a machined edged, but alas didn't (I'll have to build a new one). Being quite resourceful I screwed two pieces of architrave together to making a guide board. Worked a treat. Anyway this is discreet's thread. All I'll say is keep watching.
Pah! I resent the implication that I won't finish this build! How's your J10 build getting on?
I'm allowing the parts I have cut out to acclimatise to the air in the corner of my father-in-laws garage.
-
Tah! I bet it's still in pieces in the corner of your garage and it'll be like that for eons.

Every one of your Ex's should relate to this
Hilarious. 'they've started to harmonise'
That was my favourite bit as well. -
I remember Andy doing a covers side project back in the afore-mentioned '92, with another mate of mine, Adrian on drums. They seemed very happy to be doing covers alongside their originals stuff. Played in the Gannet back in Bideford all the time. (and we've stayed on subject, almost) I saw Andy in a covers band not that long ago now I come to think of it, can't for the life of me remember what they were called though. Good bloke.
I think my mate was in a band with Andy sometime before The Sweet Thangs. He was going to ask Andy if he was interested in forming one recently but found out he's already got something on.
Not so much Bilbo, I feel dirty, I play music I do not like, for money, I can feel a 17 year old version of myself chucking fruit at me every time I walk on to a stage. Still, a gigs a gig, and I am a shameless whore.
He is, he's a shameless whore Bilbo, he's got an awful reputation around.....well the whole of Devon.
How do you mean, Marvin?
I do apologise. It was a flippant remark, relating to the current furore over the price of pickguards on the site. EDIT: obviously I'm not suggesting that Jon Shuker would charge $500 for a pickguard, no not all. I'll stop now.
Papa Brittle? Blimey that's taking me back... What year was that? They supported my band in Reading once back in 87. I remember them being a bit tasty.
It must have been the early 90's, at a guess 92. Brilliant band.
Yep, I was there, good night that was. I was (and still am) pretty good mates with Nick who played rhythm guitar in the Thangs. Still run into Andy sometimes as well (lead guitar). I also recall Chumbawamba being very exciting in there, and TV Smith being a little disappointing.
Well you could have said hello . I bumped into Chris who was the bass player, the other day. He's good mates with a friend of mine, Nick, who's a drummer I'm trying to start a band with. Nick used to be in a band with Andy (aforementioned lead guitarist with Thangs), doing covers. Yeaaaaah, I've managed to bring it back to topic
Thanks gents Mr Shuker is making the mirror pickguard this week so I should have it back early next week. In the meantime it's had more coats of white nitro and I will cut that back tonight and fill the remaining imperfections with Milliput. I have also fitted the brass Warwick nut which looks ace.
Hope you got a good deal on it.

Anybody else having trouble using the 'search' facility?
Marvin replied to warwickhunt's topic in Site News
It seems to be functioning correctly now. Well for me it it, not that I really use it. -
Slight derail, but I used to play the Anchor a fair bit back in the day, good times, never got paid, played a lot of originals, and followed Big Al from the Cult Maniax everywhere (though they were the Sweet Thangs by then). Must have run into each other at some point Marv.
We must of bumped into each other. I used to go to Sweet Thangs gigs religiously. I only ever saw the Cult Maniax when they became the Vibe Tribe. Did you attend the live performance given by Papa Brittel at the Anchor? It was truly superb. Bl00dy good times.
i think we need a shilling for the meter
We were only talking about put a shilling in the meter at work a few days ago. Although it used to 50p when I was little. I still remember the man from the leccy coming around and counting out all those coins. Kids today are missing out you know. -
But that still makes little difference to his argument. The size of a driver is, as Snicks pointed out, only a small factor in determining the sound. The fact that keyboards will go down to 27Hz is somewhat academic because you can't hear it. Personally I'd rather have what determines the qualities of a loudspeaker system explained by someone who makes them rather than just uses them. Having spent the last few weeks reading material on, and asking what seems like an infinite number of questions relating to drivers and loudspeakers, from those informed responses this guy comes across as a complete idiot.

The search isn't working for I either. The site as a whole does seem to have been a little tetchy of late. Maybe it's just my computer but it seems to take an age sometimes for the server to connect, or whatever. -
Balls. The tiny speakers in my ipod earphones produce an excellent bass sound. Frank.
Can I borrow them please? Mine create far to much upper mids.
