1. All of them, every single one. Can't stand any of them. I'd rather chop my head off - well maybe not. EDIT: for the record I'm in a bad mood, sorry.
  2. Thank goodness for iPlayer. I think I managed to condense that complete pile of excrement into about 1 to 2 minutes - and I think I was being generous letting some of them go on as long as they did. Nicky Wire must be up there with 'the most talentless', what an *&^%*&^%$*&^%!! As for who has a good tone, what instrument they're playing and through what really when it gets down to the nitty gritty if the performance and the songs are dreadful it doesn't matter. Some of the festival coverage lately and shows like these almost turn me off music.
  3. A very good comprehensive review. Thanks.

    Hartke 2500

Thanks for the review. I've been very tempted to buy one and you've just convinced me with that review, cheers.
  5. I've never got even close to doing anything at all of note musically. Although I did tell the jobcentre, when asked what type of job I was looking for, told them I wanted to be a rock star. The interviewer looked perplexed, so I continued the rouse. You can't live in the past, you can't change it. There are things I wished I had done and hadn't but there is little point mulling over them. You can only look forward.
  6. Vile looking tatty thing. If you're in any doubt, I wouldn't buy it.
  7. Is there anything left? I think everything's pretty much covered. Personally, coffee table things, gold hardware, impractical shapes basically anything that's style over substance and looks like it was design by a counter assistant at Elizabeth Duke.
  8.
To quote that great Val Kilmer line in Tombstone "I'll be your Huckleberry". .......
I've always liked Kurt Russell's line "You tell him I'm coming and hell's coming with me". I however, will not be coming, or for that matter bringing hell with me . It takes over 4 hours to get there from here. All the best though and have a good one. EDITED: due to lack of educational attainment.
  9. Bill Fitzmaurice Ditch the combo idea and make your own cab. Everyone's doing it - see above. Or buy a Hartke or the Promethean. I was thinking about the Hartke 112c Hydrive. Loads of features, smallish, 250w and Pete Academy's place of employment was selling them new for, wait for it........£349. It's a bargain. Commission on that one if you get the sale please Pete
  10. Hooky was on telly the other night, you probably all saw it, but due to his unique playing style he now has issues with regard to his back. So perhaps he might shorten his strap.
  11. Do people have to write essays? Anything over 5 lines and I start to drift.
  12.
I went to see that Scott Pilgrim flick last weekend, he's got a lovely fireglo Ric bass that gets destroyed fighting a vegan bass player with a Mustang. In the next scene the Ric was held together with gaffa tape and I was distraught!
It's all CGI these days, so the fireglo Ric probably never existed. Why did a vegan have a ferrel horse anyway?
  13.
I think the mistake being made here is that we are actually thinking people listen to us. Come on everyone, don't forget we are bass players. Nobody listens to us or cares about us. Lets all get back to where we belong. At the back, looking bored or boring, upappreciated and not very important to anything or anyone. See, that makes everything so much better
You're right of course. But, I'm awaiting the thoughts of Tony Goggle on this subject before I make my mind up on the matter.
  14.
Sounds a little to me Nig that ..........

Bugger, I was hoping you would stay out of this one
Jake's word is the LAW!
  15. Great stuff Jake. The musicianship is just.....it, really. Effortless. I'd like to say more but I've got a mental block
  16.
Does not remembering what I played last time count as improvisation? If so, me = tit
Fantastic! Someone exactly like me.
  17.
I use current rock/indie stuff as a means of teaching my students (most of whom are between 12 and 17) to read. Seems kids these days don't want to read Bach, but this gets them used to dots and keeps them away from TAB. Try this for reading material: Some dots for rock (Apologies if you've already been through what's on there, I'm back teaching next week so there'll be plenty more rock transcriptions on the way soon...)
Whoops how embarrassing I've got your site bookmarked, partly because it's probably the only one I've found that has some more contemporary transcripts. There's quite a variety of sources on there. Thanks. *runs to corner to hide in shame*
  18.
Just learn the dots. Its much more effective and it gets you work. Tab is a child's toy, a shorthand that, because of its familiarity, initially makes more sense to the uninitiated but which is ultimately inadequate for the purpose it was invented. Put the toy away and get to work. It will reward you in the long run.
Dots then please! But excluding the usual Jaco, Miller, Clarke, Wooton and other Jazz and fusion bass 'heros'. Also not overly interested in soul, R&B or funk dots. What I want is dots for rock, indie, alternative and more rock etc. The problem is no one writes the dots for the music most of us want to play that's why TAB sites get used. As for sitting down and working it out for ourselves, some of us have full time jobs and the usual array of responsibilities the preclude sitting down trying to figure out a bass line so buried in the mix it's barely audible.
  19. It certainly hasn't changed my stance on the issue, I'll say no more.
  20. That's really looking good. Aesthetically it looks very well balanced. Nice lump of wood. Cheers.
  21.
Pics now up on FB. http://finnbass.com/showthread.php?p=113167#post113167 Cheers
They won't let me look unless I join.
  22.
My Girl? Simple re chords and tempo. It's all about note lengths and articulation.
I think that one shows that simplicity can be both effective and beautiful. I really like that line.
  23.
John, that is probably one of the best posts I've seen since being on BC. Nice one.
I second that. A most brilliant brain fart John, keep it up......I think. EDIT: first time I read that I thought it said Brian Fart and was going to be a reference to Tony Goggle.
  24. 15 pages, day 3! Still no end in sight. Mods have requested refreshments for weary contributors and a special rest area has been made available in the BC Arms for anyone who needs a lie down. MEDIC! MEDIC! Quickly, we've got a faller.
  25.
Thanks guys i think i may go for the ashdown mag 300 with a 2x10
Ashdown combo Like this one? I don't know for sure but to get the full 300w out of it I think you need an extension. Can anyone confirm this? If you're playing small venues I think perhaps your drummer is going to have to learn some restraint. Talking as a punter and not as bass player, if you're in a small place and someone's bashing the hell out of a kit, many of your potential audience might well leave for sake of their hearing. Just my opinion though. All the best in your hunt.
