Phone them up and shout at them until they waive it.
I have a feeling that won't work!

As BB and WoT, it's right unfortunately. When you pick up your strings you'll find a sticker on it that states the customs charge and the admin fee. The admin fee maybe larger than the actual customs charge. All part of globalisation and the free movement of goods - not!

Just dreadful news. As like others, I only knew Si through Basschat, yet the news is really upsetting. He will be genuinely missed and I think we've lost a little something. My condolences to his friends and family.
First gig with gloves ..
Nice pics mate, looking cool and they really show how much you love your music. The lady in the middle pic, is that Krupa? She's nice  I tell you what *looks over shoulder to see if wife is around* if I wasn't married, was a lot younger, had extensive plastic surgery, put some time in the gym, worked on my personality and bumped off any potential rivals, well I think I'd be in with a chance you know. -

It's a knuckle buster for sure.
Your Googling is miles ahead of mine. The guy has transcribed loads of stuff, a lot of it beyond me, but others look OK. A big thanks from me, despite it not being my thread.

FWIW, I don't own a Promethean but I have got an Ibanez Soundwave SWX35 practice amp, and that one hisses like a snake on heat. It is quite annoying but on the Soundwaves they are known to be that way. If it was a Promethean though I would be tempted to seek a replacement, I think.

I'm with Confucious.

Depends what bass it was. If were a Fender I'd probably just let it go. However, my current Ibanez isn't really a bass that goes well with the mojo look, so would probably go for a refinish if it got to a stage where it annoyed me.
-
Good point, I've now got one safely stashed in my case along with a few other bits. Thankfully it wasn't a gig, but it does make you think about being a little more prepared.

I'll pinch some of the wife's nail varnish when she's not watching .

The only thing I could assume is that the popping was moving the saddle and because the grubs aren't quite tight enough the movement works them down. I think that makes sense, sort of. It is a relief to know it's not unique but still odd.

Sorry about the title but that's just what happened, well it seemed to. I had a lesson last night. In the last 15 mins my tutor introduces a slap exercise just to add some variation to what I'm learning. Going through the exercise and we both noticed the G was rattling a lot when I popped. On closer inspection the saddle had lowered considerably resulting in significant fret buzz when playing any note whether popped or just plucking normal finger style. It was fine at the start of the lesson and when I got home I raised the saddle and it's been fine since. Has anyone else had this happen? I can't think what might have happened TBH.
I agree that your vids were pretty poor but tbh £600 is not a lot for a function band (you get what you pay for...) we had a decent fee and accommodation (more than double) for that gig as it was in the west country me and the horn being London(ish) piano, drums, vox from Manchester. I understand your point about my vid being fine but my question was would you be happy doing it? I enjoy it because the guys are really good so the genre matters less to me. What I'm getting at in my question is that being pro means that if you struggle to get on in a gig like that then you are setting yourself up for disappointment. I just feel blessed to have a bass in my hands at work so will do gigs like that very happily. I'm hinting towards what it is that drives you to satisfaction in music.
I can play badly for a lot less than that. And that bit there Jake, could probably have done with a bit of rephrasing. Although I have got a very smutty sense of humour.
assuming they're the same as the guitar sets (not having any bass sets to hand) it should be : E - brass/gold A - red D - black G - green
I've got D'Addario's on my bass and that is exactly the colour code goes on mine.
It was a rock band that had its faults but it was ok and sounded like a rock band. It was rehearsed and it was tight (I was 17, the rest of the band were 30+). We did a Radio One session three months later so it couldn't have been that bad. Seriously, though. Check this out and tell me I am wrong. The piano solo at 1.00 is a doozy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnrhE5ARc_w...feature=related This is even better... A lot of good posts on here. I suppose, picking up of what Derren posted, the point is distinguishing between those who want to take risks but learn from them and those who think they have talent when in fact they aren't. The danger is excluding those with potential. To some extent Doddy has a very valid point. Take for example Susan Boyle (or not ), the general public believe she's an absolute gem of a singer. Talk to any pro singer and they'll say she has a good voice but nothing out of the ordinary. And Bilbo, your point about covers bands etc. I was only discussing this with a singer this morning. We have a free gig in our town in a couple of weeks. There are only 3 bands booked so far and all 3 do covers. She even admitted that doing covers herself wasn't a good thing and will chuck in some of her original material. As she said if all the bands are covers bands, you may as well just book one and they could do the whole evening. But covers and tributes are safe for venues, they seem less willing to take risks on original bands. And audiences don't seem to want to take the risk. I fear we live in a very backward looking world, the past was always better so let's just listen to that.
They probably want a full house of people with enough money to pay theatre prices and buy theatre price drinks in the interval. Don't get that with random pub covers bands and orginals. or do you mean they should book a more varied selection of tribute bands?
Yes, your right. The theatre are probably looking to fill the venue on acts they know will do so rather than taking a punt on originals. The tribute acts themselves are fairly varied. It's also compounded by the fact that it seems anything west of Bristol seems to be a no mans land for most bands. My children were playing with Micheal Caines' children (that's the chef - Caines, not the actor Caine) at a fun park this afternoon. I did not speak or attempt to embarrass myself in front of Mr Caines.
