Celebrate.

Excellent, well done.

That was seriously good.

I haven't got one but it's definitely on the list. I don't need it at the moment, however, seriously considered one the Hydrive combos.

Two tuners that seem to be at odds with each other.
Marvin replied to Marvin's topic in Accessories and Misc
The Zoom definitely seems to be more accurate. Sometimes on the Korg the 'needle' will waver all over the place. I'll have to get the instruction manuals out to check things like Hz, being the technical idiot I am. Generally, it's not overly noticeable when playing but it was emphasised the other night at a lesson when I'd tuned up on the Korg and I was a little out from my tutor. I think the Zoom will be first choice. -
One is a Korg GA-30 (small cheap little thing) the other is the tuner on a Zoom B2.1u pedal. Tune up on one and the other will then say you're slightly flat (sometimes sharp) and vice verca. I'm assuming it's because neither is particularly accurate as they are fairly cheap (i suppose).
Plus one. Why won't anyone scam me? I'm fairly gullible. PS: Did you know the word 'gullible' isn't in the dictionary? You did? OK, then.
I never knew that.

I feel left out, I didn't get one.

I haven't used Chrome for some time now. However, never had a problem with it. It does seem that browsers tend to go through fits and starts. I change between Safari and Opera depending on which one is working best. Currently Opera is stupendously fast, I'm sure it won't last.

Jamming with a drummer once and he said he liked to get a clear few of my foot tapping to the beat so he knew he was in time I replied that my foot was tapping to his kick. He's a good drummer, works well with others, apparently, but another thing was I just couldn't pick out a rhythm. It's partly my inexperience, but I like a good solid sound from the drummer that's keeping time. (There's also the fact that too much symbol bashing f@cks about with my ear 'oles).

Drummer required to join Heartbreaker, Hampshire
Marvin replied to Heartbreaker's topic in Musicians Wanted
...... superb rythems & style, a real unique one off was Andy Frazer, just love those bass lines.
I totally agree. I started listening to Free just about the same time I picked up the bass last year. Fraser's playing is just mint, and has really enthused me. I'm quite envious you get to play so much of his lines. All the best, in your hunt. I do know of a drummer kicking his heels at the moment but I think the trip from North Devon precludes him -
I found a tutor, had two lessons so far. I was noodling around this afternoon and Mrs Marvin said she definitely noticed a difference (for the better). So lessons.
I always liked the solo from Free's live version of Mr Big. Not strictly a solo, but the bass takes over the lead. Very simple but very effective. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGODVQmcEu8 About 4:15 in.

+1000 The legendary Andy Fraser on bass. It's certainly not very simple - try playing it note perfect with his feel.
My fav as well.

Do you consider yourself a BASSIST or a MUSICIAN?
Marvin replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
I don't consider myself to be either, as I don't feel I'm good enough (yet). If asked I generally say I'm learning to play bass guitar. -
Sunshine Of Your Love.
Mine too, I can't stand the song anymore, played it to death.
Waterfront - Simple Minds One note, repeated
Which note? I'm too lazy to figure it out for myself. EDIT: In actual fact forget it, it's probably too complicated for me and I'd just f@ck it up.
If you get any pain in your hands or wrists, stop immediately and rest. Otherwise you risk making something acute into something chronic.
Absolutely agree with silddx. At my first lesson last week my tutor pointed out that I don't always use the best or most appropriate part of my finger to fret a note (I think he was being diplomatic and was basically say 'you're doing it all wrong ars3hole'). In changing my hand shape, only slightly to get a better fretting finger, I encountered a pain shooting up from my wrist to my thumb, I stopped playing for 3 days. I've since adapted my hand shape slightly again and the pain hasn't returned. As with anything, playing an instrument or playing sport, if you encounter pain it's for a reason, it's your body telling you to stop. Stretching, exercises, supplements and changes to technique can or may help but can take time. In the mean time if it hurts step away from your instrument. Lecture over

My first bass a Westone Spectrum 11. Just awful in every respect, quality, tone, playability, I could go on and on. Early 90's cheap basses that come nowhere near the budget end basses today. I think Crazy Kiwi mentioned he had one and would probably support my view.
not a bad bassist, wrote some good songs but very dodgy shorts! You wouldn't see macca in such a pair!
TBH though the entire bad weren't renowned for their sense of style in the clothing department.
Nope, just in general really. I don't think he's a nob... that's just a nod to the 'War and Peace' effort the Macca thread is becoming! I think he is a solid, extremely capable bassist who is comparable in style to Macca i.e. he is melodic and plays to the songs needs rather than his own. He also wrote one of the most recognisable basslines ever in 'Another One Bites The Dust'. He seems a fairly ordinary chap and pretty decent along with it, plus he once played a Buzzard (even though it was a Warwick!) I think he kept his dignity by not rejoining what was obviously not Queen and going out on the road with them. John gets a wacky, Macca thumbs aloft from me!
But if I'm to be serious, I'll go along with the general sentiment of this post. Used to be a Queen fan and although I can't say he was ever a particular influence on me I'm certainly not going to diss his playing or character. Solid bloke doing what a bass player is there to do (when I find out what that actually is I'll complete this post properly).

He doesn't even deserve to lick the strings of Tony Goggle's bass, that's for certain.

My bass tutor's strap for his bass used to belong to Pino Palladino. He (bass tutor) used to house share with a guy who used to drum with Mr Palladino and said drummer had no need for the strap the he had come by. I can see why Pino discarded it though, it fell apart this evening. Now if that's not tenuous, well......

Welcome to basschat. EB-3's are on my GAS list.
Sorry guys, I must have been mad to put this up. Got home, plugged it in and it was just like coming home. And plugging it in. It's a keeper. I've had to move a lot of stuff on recently - the workhorse Fender P, a natural J (R/N neck) and an old Commer van we used to shift the &peg rig. So, regretfully, I'm going to have to withdraw the . Thanks for all the PM's
Only just noticed the thread. Damn shame I've been looking for one for a while now and yours looks to be in perfect condition. Early withdrawal is always a little disappointing, never mind.
