1. I've just placed my bass in the living room, resting against the sofa. Proportionally and generally aesthetically I find it very pleasing to my eye. And in general I think I find bass guitars more pleasing to the eye than guitars. Basses seem more balanced, more elegant. I find guitars stubby and sometimes maybe cluttered (not quite the word I was looking for but close as I could get). This isn't an anti-guitar thread more a question of design. EDIT: I do apologise for the poor English 'Proportionally and generally aesthetically' that's not very good is it now
2. I'm almost one year old on Basschat, I'm so excited. I'm not expecting a present or anything, just told to shut up and stop being so annoying. It's good to see so many new faces. Personally I think people have heard of Ped's plans for a Basschat shop! Basschat's a great place, if it wasn't for this bit of cyberspace my bass would probably just collect dust, it really has kept me interested in playing. Although my playing would be better if I spent less time on here Lots of great people on here new and old.
3. That was dead cool, I really liked it.
4. When they sound or look like they need changing.
5. I quite like her material, she's miles ahead, IMO, of some more hyped artists. All the best to her I say.
6. Middle I suppose, but it's not something I've really focused on. Generally just try and make it all sound right. It could be the case I change half way through a song maybe. I am nowhere near using 3rd or even 4th fingers, I just tend to tuck them up out of the way to make them look tidy.
7. I was tempted to buy a Vintage, a clone of a Warwick. It looked good but I only got as far as picking it up. It weighed as much as a small planet.
8.
It was me..... Woohoo... Sig updated
Excellent, well done, you lucky devil you.
9. Give us another clue. It can't be yourself as you'd have put it in your sig surely. EDIT: Congratulations, and yes I am jealous
10. Hmm, well considering the abundance of bass players and lack of bands perhaps we should consider banding together to form bass only(ish) bands, in a Clarke, Wooton and Miller style
11.
if you can't get the mixer to work, a litte thing i used to do is use some normal ipod headphones for music and some bigger home headphones over the top for bass. It worked surprisingly well.
This is what I tend to do. Or my amp has a CD input, so I can do it that way as well.
12.
Am I right in thinking that you can connect to your computer/laptop with the usb cable, and without having to use cubase, just play through your pc speakers?
Yes. I've used mine as an interface a couple of times but always used Garageband on my Mac, as it's got loads of drum patterns to practice with. I think I may have a fault somewhere though as I get a buzzing noise and feedback warnings repeatedly. I've never used cubase because I haven't the faintest idea how it works, to say it's a complete mystery would be an understatement.
13.
I'm hoping they do a 1x12...
And maybe weighs a little less, for the slightly built bassist.
14.
If you're local marvin - you're more than welcome to come and give the a100 a test run before you buy one? Just drop me a pm. Steve
If I get some time I might take you up on your kind offer. I'm up near Barnstaple. Thanks Rich
15.
You lot are anorexic !!
Anorexic no, weedy yes
Wow, topic is on the TC website http://www.tcelectronic.com/bg500reviews.asp
People to take notice of us then. I'm going to watch what I say a bit more from now on
16. I seem to know of more drummers and bass players than anything else. Only recently mate of mine said he was doing some work for someone who had an acoustic guitar in his living room, do you think we should ask him if he wants to start up a band? I said it was worth a punt. Turns out the guy is a bassist . I certainly understand what JF means about being the wrong side of 35 and not much experience under the belt. I picked up the bass last year thinking all that mucking about when I was in my teens meant I could play. How wrong I was. So all the adds wanting bass players for bands are either around my age and want a certain skill level above mine or those of my skill level all seem to be teenagers wanting to play some sub genre of metal So I always feel a little stuck.
17.
I've got one and I think it's effing brilliant for my needs. I've found the compressor to be noisy so I avoid it. My normal 'clean' sound is actually one of the valve amp simulators set to a very low gain level and I use that setting on most songs. The muter tuner is priceless for live gigs where we swap from D tuning to Drop C tuning regularly.
I found exactly the same. It's the only thing that annoys me.
The Drum patterns are fantastic and as a result I have sold my Practice amp as well. No need anymore just a set of headphones. Great value and love that it is so compact.
I'm thinking of getting rid of my practice amp for the same reason. I don't really use it because on the rare occasions when I practice the kids are in bed so I have to use headphones whatever. And the Zoom is just it for practice especially with the drum patterns. Overall I'm really chuffed with mine.
18. I've done a bit of searching around and perhaps the A100 might suit my needs, with the added bonus of being a little cheaper. It gets good reviews and is LOUD. Thank you.
19. I would have said string choice was important to me but then realised I haven't done anything with the strings on my bass since I bought it. They're D'addario, and assume they are medium/light gauge. They're alright, but there's something about them I don't like.
20. waynepunkdude, or is that ex-punk dude, playing Year 3000.
21.
I have no experience with the Hydrive 112, but am currently rocking an A100 15" combo and it is ruddy loud! Just used for its first outting the other night against a loud drummer and two guitarists both with 200W Blackstar head and 2x12 cabs and it had plenty of ooomph. Set at about 4.5 volume, +3 Treble, +3 Bass and a mid boost on the EQ - its was easily loud enough and cutting through a treat! Growl wise - I can get enough from mine running the current eq and using my Passive through-neck peavey C4. Don't let the "100 Watt" fool you - it punches WAY above its weight. Sound quality is very good for the price tag!
Thanks mate, that's rather reassuring. That's a lot of guitar and drum to compete against for just 100w. I notice you're in Exeter, just down the road from. Hello fellow Devon dweller
22. So what is a small venue and so on? I only ask this dumb ass question because in terms of amps manufacturers or reviewers sometimes will state 'well it will cope adequately at small or medium sized venues'. And does there need to be a 'huge' category?
