I'd never heard of part fretted instruments I must admit. But then I'm an ignorant git.

There are always a few threads asking for advice on combos and it surprises me that this range isn't mentioned more, especially given the good reviews they get. And if I was near Oxford, Hector, I'd be very tempted - if I actually needed a new combo but apparently I don't according to someone else

I only mention these as I popped into a music shop this morning and there was a Fender Rumble 100/210 in the shop. (It's a very small shop with only half a dozen bass amps at most and only 3 basses ). The guy who owns it is a Fender fanatic, and I can't emphasis that enough, Fender are almost a religion to this guy and although I'm not a Fender man I thoroughly enjoyed the half hour I spent chewing the fat with him. Anyway back to the amp, only 100w, so asked about it and the owner said it was seriously loud, chest thumpingly loud. (Although he is a guitarist). The range (15w up to 350w) is very rarely mentioned on here so I was just wondering what the general consensus was. I must admit if I was in the market for a new combo it would definitely be in the running.

Doddy's nailed it I think. Especially if you've got some good gear, you don't want to be covering it up or modifying it. If however, I was to say own an unreliable brand of amp beginning with B then I'd quite happily hide it behind anything available. Like I say I'm not in the band, so it doesn't effect me, but I'm pretty sure I'd have said no. Especially considering they've already got a backdrop logo and one on the drumkit. Perhaps uniforms are next

I have a friend who is the vocalist/band leader. He's quite an excitable, exuberant and very enthusiastic chap. He's a good bloke. The band have decided to have 'new' speaker covers made with the band logo on them. The guitarist I noticed has got one of those nice vintage style amps. Now I'm quite obsessive about my gear, what little I have, and there would be no way on this earth that I would agree to have my speaker grill replaced by the band logo, regardless of my loyalty to the other members. More so if I had a top end rig. Would you? Or am I being an idiot? Please note I'm not in said band.

I'm not particularly fussed about either. I'm sure they are really nice blokes and they have their respective talents but their music doesn't interest me at all.

It's not as if they're hard to find for this song.[/quote] I thought this one would have been fairly reliable, considering it comes from 'Bass Tab White Pages'. I suppose the clue may be in the title in that it's primarily aimed at TAB. But one would have thought a publisher like Hal Leonard would ensure the TAB and Stave match. I'm trying to avoid reading the TAB, but just noticed this anomaly. The transcript of Dream On by Aerosmith was also in the wrong key. It all seems a little worrying. I'm thankful I didn't pay the £30 they charge for this book but got substantially cheaper.

[attachment=47575:IMG.pdf] Ignore what song it is, in the main these songs are learnt by ear probably. My question/confusion is this. At the top of the page it tells the reader to de-tune 1/2 step. The very first note on the stave I read as an A. So I would naturally play an A. However, cross ref with the TAB it says play 12th fret on the third string. If you've de-tuned surely this would be an Ab. Hence I'm confused, what are you actually supposed to play? I've seen this several times and am just questioning the instruction to de-tune, surely if the stave says play a certain note that is what you play, isn't it? Please help. The reason I'm asking is I'm taking tentative steps into learning to read the dots.

Really got to try and get back and use a pick again, they seem somewhat foreign after coming back to bass after such a gap. Which is even more odd considering I always used to use a pick.
