[size=2](just joking)[/size] There are literally loads of talented musicians doing 'gigs' you simply wouldn't expect them to do. Danny Thompson famously played on Cliff Richard's Euro Song Contest entry. When ask why, he always answers he had a young family and had to put food on the table. Simple as that I suppose. As you will have noticed from Bilbo's and Doddy's posts. Actually Bilbo recently listed several really well known (well within Jazz) players that are only able to pursue their art basically part-time. I seem to remember him mentioning one DB player who didn't play for 30 years because his bass was broken and he couldn't afford a new one. It wasn't until someone lent him one he started playing again.

Who's Next was indeed a fantastic album. Unfortunately I don't have Sky.

I occasionally see Chris, the guy who used to play bass for the Sweet Thangs. I'm assuming you used to go to The Anchor in Westward Ho! as well. Saw some good bands there. I've probably met you in passing. Good times indeed.

2nd hand Warwick or a new Rockbass maybe. Ibanez SR300 or maybe stretch to a 500. Very sleek. The Squire CV comes highly recommended, I was in a shop on Monday and the owner was literally eulogizing about them.

I'd never heard of part fretted instruments I must admit. But then I'm an ignorant git.

There are always a few threads asking for advice on combos and it surprises me that this range isn't mentioned more, especially given the good reviews they get. And if I was near Oxford, Hector, I'd be very tempted - if I actually needed a new combo but apparently I don't according to someone else

I only mention these as I popped into a music shop this morning and there was a Fender Rumble 100/210 in the shop. (It's a very small shop with only half a dozen bass amps at most and only 3 basses ). The guy who owns it is a Fender fanatic, and I can't emphasis that enough, Fender are almost a religion to this guy and although I'm not a Fender man I thoroughly enjoyed the half hour I spent chewing the fat with him. Anyway back to the amp, only 100w, so asked about it and the owner said it was seriously loud, chest thumpingly loud. (Although he is a guitarist). The range (15w up to 350w) is very rarely mentioned on here so I was just wondering what the general consensus was. I must admit if I was in the market for a new combo it would definitely be in the running.
