I'm not really a Fender man but they do look gooooood. My eldest (5) has just said that he'll lend me the money to get the red P with the black scratch, it's his favourite, apparently black is a bit dull.

Sorry I thought this was about something completely different. Wondered why it was in General Bass Disc.
-
Shouldn't this be in the 'Bassists Wanted' forum?
-
Definitely one to consider. I was invited to an acoustic jam session recently and that sort of thing would fit the bill and come in handy for other things. EDIT: Just checked with Mrs M. Apparently I won't be getting one.

I'm happy with my current bass, it suits my needs. But I'm not 100% happy with it. It's a fine instrument for the money and would recommend one if anyone asks. Sometimes it just lacks a little something. If I were to be gigging regularly I would probably look for a different bass, but would try my hardest to find one that was as close to 'ultimate' as possible. I don't get GAS, because I think an instrument is better or out of desire just to have it. I tend to invent 'valid' reasons as to why I need to have a different bass. These have so far been shot down in flames through the application of common sense and the intervention of Mrs M.
Well, it's true! Unfortunately I've got to a point now where the poor reading skills really slow down the whole process. Next step: up my game when it comes to reading!
I know where you're coming from. I understand all the 'symbols', but there's no way at the moment I could sight read a piece. I'd have to sit down and work it out bit by bit and hopefully have the piece of music available to make sure what I think is being played is what is actually being played. But then again I've only just started trying to read, music that is.
Yeah, it's worth checking those threads out. Theory is accessible without reading. I don't read well - it just takes a little longer!
Don't let MajorMinor hear you say that . This is of some help. Studybass When you say cheap book what sort of price have you in mind? For £10 you may be able to pick something up on Amazon.
I don't know much, If anything about either bass im afraid - But i definitely think your bass is a whole lot nicer. That rickenbacker doesn't look all that, Don't be tempted by the name!
I agree with MythSte. Is there any particular reason you want to get rid of the Van der End Jazz?
Play the GAME by Queen. oops, sorry...
Fool. In all seriousness though. I've stopped learning basslines for covers purposes. I'm not in a covers band and was finding it distracted me from practicing what are my weaknesses. When I've achieved a goal I treat myself to learning a song I like. I am a devil I know.
Us Midlanders are often seen as having no opinion on anything, but we are very balanced people. I am trying to redress that balance Welcome to Basschat Mr Guardian!
You said that, no one else.
I am eternally grateful that there are 'anti-Fender' people out there - everyone should have their own voice (+ it leaves more of the originals to fellas like me!).
No competition from me. Most vintage Fenders cost more than my car and I had to have medical assistance to remove my wallet from my pocket when buying that one.

Welcome, I will certainly check out your myspace page.

Welcome. Have fun.
Hi captainkirk and welcome Again, not from York. Me, I'm from Oxfordshire; I just work in outer space. But there are a fair few Yorkies on here - you'll soon run into them. Hope you enjoy the forum!
Mmm Yorkies, a man's chocolate bar. Or are you referring to the small dog? Welcome to the forum Captainkirk.

Usually reserved for items that may have picked up some light damage and have a quarter inch of dust on them.
Or, if you use a bass amp as well you can sound like a bass and a guitar
Good point, just read your posts properly. And I'm all for getting rid of unnecessary egos on stage. If you sound like two instruments all the better then.
-
Just quickly scanning through this, all I can assume is that as long as you want your bass to sound like a guitar then its fine to use guitar amps.
-
Good grief, the things you see. My first ever amp was a 15watt Gorilla bass amp. It was alright, I think. From what I can remember my mate's still got it. I may ask to see it for old times sake Sorry not much help, but thanks for the trip down memory lane.
I think that is Space Bass which was made by Larry Pless. I think Bootsy had it modified at one point to have five pickups.
The more the merrier I suppose
I actually now only own two basses - the Jazz and the Roscoe. I think it's because I've worked around them so long, I've become de-sensitised. I just don't get sentimental about instruments. But I can appreciate how much players can become attached to their basses.
A true sign of professionalism that.

If I lived anywhere nearby I'd use them. I have only ever heard good things about The Gallery/ Bass Merchant.

On a serious note. If it's entirely separate from BC, that's a different forum and I think it's a bit of an ask to want the guys who run BC to set up and run another forum. If it's accommodated within BC it runs the risk of changing the character of the place and possibly alienating some members. There's a good vibe on here and I for one wouldn't want to see anything brought in that changed that. If you place an 'Other Instruments' forum on BC that is available to non members to peruse, then you risk the forum attracting people who haven't the passion or dedication, like Ped and the team, to create their own forum for their own particular interest. From a personal point and a selfish one I admit, I only play bass. I don't, can't and have no particular interest at the moment in learning another instrument. If the forum was to be turned into a quasi multi instrumentalist forum I think I might loose interest. Of course some might say that would be a good thing. It may seem OTT but I really enjoy BC and wouldn't want to see something brought in that damages its character or vibe. I am not saying it shouldn't be considered, but that it should be done with all possible outcomes, positive and negative, taken into account.
What d'you think?
Nothing particularly constructive just jealousy.

Never been into these guys, they just don't do it for me. I also find Damon Albarn slightly irritating, like a scarf that makes you itch under your chin. Nothing really bad just irritating.
